Little pain in my ass.

Most of you seen me in my bunny suit so kiss my ass about a lapdog.

I don't normally like small dogs.

We had a bad run of pets for a bit.
When I got sick one night we decided my boy needs a dog but this is what we ended up with.

Actually a good "dog" but since I stay home so much I have her most of the time.

That is a cute AF dog there.

One of my favorite memories ever will be rolling up to the pet store on my motorcycle after a long ride with my doxie strapped on to it, hopping off, getting her neon pink lead put on her, and strolling into the shop.

From rescue to being a queen... LMAO, this little girl is awesome.

Suzy was 13 years old which is a good long run for a Chow mix. She was Cathy's faithful companion and I think not having her momma here is what ultimately broke her. She had an issue with her skin where it was tough and hard almost like scales, constantly got hot spots, moved extremely slowly, and would shiver as she slept.

She is with Cathy now and she gets to be with her boyfriend Ike (a friend's dog who she was absolutely in love with). This happened 3 weeks ago but I couldn't bring myself to post it until now.

You were a good girl Suzy... tell momma I love her.

Damn. Had to put out out 15 year old Cairn Terrier down January 2022. Wife died in her sleep the following August. Kinda quite around here. Sucks.

Well, it looks like Fido is getting a change of diet.

Purina is completely revamping its production of dog food. Premium food sales have fallen off a cliff while their cheap food sales have increased substantially.

It makes me wonder what's happening with the brands that only sell "high quality" pet food.

Update:

Had him at the farm last weekend and he was one happy dog. Was about impossible to find a moment where he was actually dry....

https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/pict...pictureid=2399

Sometimes he seems to just show off. He'll stand there and pose. Snob.

https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/pict...pictureid=2398

This one cracks me up because I didn't put him in a sit here. I was packing up the truck to head back home. He was NOT having it. Sat down in front of the bush and said "F-You. I'm not leaving."

Wouldn't budge. Awfully tough to get a good picture of black dog but that one came out pretty well given that he's just in full pout.

Yeah, he was the pick of his litter. Breeder was going to show him or his yellow sister in the original post. If she wanted a male I was SOL. She decided to keep a female so I got him. Which is why I was willing to haul my ass to Wisconsin to pick him up.

We hit the jackpot with this one. Gonna be a looker and he's just a REALLY good dog. Hit every sweet spot on temperament. Couldn't have asked for any more out of him.

They’re a great breed, but when you hit the jackpot, it’s special.

Luna is a year-and-a-half old Australian Cattle Dog-Catahoula Leopard Dog-Labrador mix. Born in South Texas, rescued in Austin, and now in the Rio Grande Valley.

Checo cat is probably about one year old, and is a neighborhood cat who received his name during halftime of the Super Bowl; short for "Pacheco". (Isaih Pacheco then promptly kicked off 2nd half scoring with a touchdown run.)

I had to euthanize my American Bulldog mix a few weeks ago. He went into liver failure back in February but bounced back with some antibiotics and liver meds. His liver failed again a few weeks ago and , apparently, he was too far gone before he became symptomatic. He likely also had hemangiosarcoma based on a tumor they found on his spleen. It’s definitely the hardest part of having pets. My sincerest condolences, brother.

ETA- ‘Deegs’ was his nickname. His name was Diego because I was born in San Diego

Put our cat down today. He made it to 18, so it's hard to feel anything but incredibly fortunate, but the house sure feels empty.

Sorry to hear, DaFace. Our dog is getting older and I already know it will be the worst day of my life when the time comes.

Damn man, so sorry to hear that. We had 2 kitties from the same litter that lived to be 18 and they died within 2 weeks of each other.

18 is a nice long life for a cat. They don't make it that long without being very happy and well cared for. RIP.

That's crazy and must have been incredibly hard. Our siamese cat lived until 16 or so but passed back in 2020, so we were just happy that our old man held on for a few more years. We still have our young (5 year old) cat at least, so that helps a little, and we'll probably think about adopting another soon.

It's just crazy how, even though they have relatively short life spans, our pets can be present for such major periods of our lives. We adopted Cid (the one in the photo) in 2007 when he was about 1.5 years old. I was barely out of college at the time, and now I'm fully in the peak of my career and starting to creep up on middle age. We damn near had the guy for longer than I lived with my parents growing up.

Time heals and all that, and I'm happy we got all the time we did. It's definitely a tough day though.

Wow, just read on FB a guy lost his 6-year old dog due to an embolism after a leg amputation surgery.

Take care of your pups and get them quality medical care.

Mr. Copper turned 2 this weekend. :)

It was tough. It's really tough for me because my cat was young. He was perfect cat - great temperament and loving. Had the real potential to be 10 year+ type pet.

This guy’s 11th adopt-aversary was yesterday.

He’s got arthritis in his left hip pretty bad and is gobbling down medicine (inside Turkey pepperoni) every day for it.

We blinked, and he got old.

Gonna be joining DJ on the feels train soon, I fear. Sucks.

Well, we made it to 13 adopt-a-versaries. We will not make it to 14.

We let Scott the Dog go yesterday. It was awful and wonderful.

His arthritis was controlled pretty well for a long time... about 5 years... we maxed out his meds dose last year and then started trying a new treatment (librela - shot) that was expensive but highly effective in July. For July, August, and September, our little buddy's clock rolled back again. Lots of walks, lots of excitement, lots of him coming down to work in the basement with me.

And then, about three weeks ago, I noticed that he was just not moving around the same. I checked, and it had only been two weeks since his last librela injection.

My wife noticed it, too. We started watching him. Tried a week making sure he was getting the max dose of his medicine and OTC stuff he could have, to see if it helped. It didn't.

He was having a hard time walking, a hard time breathing (working really hard). Then we started noticing his alertness dropping, his energy. I made the calll to the vet on Monday, and we took him in yesterday.

Saying goodbye was hard. And awful in some ways. But gosh, when I think about how he loved us, how sweet he was and what a good comfort animal he was (he missed his calling as a trained comfort dog/therapy dog, for sure), and about the good life we gave him, it helps. My kids are a little wrecked... the girl just misses him and doesn't want him to go (she has taken a lot of pleasure in sliding above me in his pecking order, right behind her mom). The boy just is having a hard time dealing with the change.

We'll take some time and probably get on the puppy train again next year. My wife has a connection who has a trio of golden retrievers who have not been fixed, who has a litter coming up in January.

Cheers to Scott the Dog. It was my honor to be your human dad. Thanks for being our buddy.

Just got back from the emergency vet. Our sweet boy Charlie(a cat) started eating a bit less and behaving oddly about two weeks ago. We took him to the vet and everything looked ok besides a little inflammation on his small bowel. We thought it was something he had eaten.

About a week and half later the dr found a mass the size of a baseball on Charlie’s stomach. It went from undetected the first time to baseball size that quickly.

That was Wednesday and vet gave him Prednisone shot Thursday to give us a little more time with him. He got so bad yesterday we have put him down this morning.

We are heartbroken to the point where even the Chiefs win yesterday was tough to enjoy. Maybe I’ll upload some pictures later.

Sorry to hear this man. We've been fortunate that we've usually had time with our cats. I can't imagine something coming in so suddenly like that. Take care and try to think of all the joy they brought to your life.

(Assuming it's something you want,) take solace in the fact that your next buddy is out there somewhere waiting to be adopted. Every sad loss is an opportunity to give another pet a good home.

Ugh sorry to everyone who has lost a pet recently

Our cat is getting old and we've got him on Gabapentin daily so he doesn't lick wounds into himself. Its kind of an "eyeball" amount in his food and sometimes it hits different and he gets really high off it

On Friday I was prepping some bacon wrapped potato wedges, went outside to check my smoker and came back in to him up on the stovetop eating a whole ass potato LMAO

So now we've been calling him Tater

Kcuniteds post reminded me I have a question. My 14 year old Brittany has to take apoquel in the summers to keep him from licking and scratching bald spots. Anyone know an alternative to prescription? I’ve constantly got stuff in my socials news feed like something from a company called dogs are humans that is supposed to be an alternative. Wondering if anyone has any experience.

Thank you both so much! We are still absolutely stunned and shocked at how quickly he was taken from us. But in a way we are glad we won’t be having to make any tough decisions about Chemotherapy, surgery and all that terrible stuff.

We picked up his ashes today and they gave us a Two boxes… one with ashes obviously…… but then a surprise one that had his paw print preserved in it. Like a mold. Needless to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Hoping for a win today for all our fallen pets in the kingdom

It was my parent’s cat but I lived with them for the majority of its life. I was able to find a 4 week old kitten in October 2022 standing on the side of the road completely abandoned. I opened the door and he jumped right in. The rest is history! :)

I’ve certainly been hugging him extra tightly lately. You just never know

Had to put my 12YO, Apollo, down today. He developed a massive infected growth on his hind leg (which you can see in the picture) that got so big that the vet thought it was likely cancerous, felt that amputation of the leg was the only viable option, and that even the amputation might not save him. Between the massive cost, the reduction of life quality, no guarantee that it any of it would work, and his age, it seemed like the best course of action. Which doesn't make it suck any less.

Also sucks that the first vet we took him to nearly three weeks ago basically did nothing but fleece us for $700 (an ineffective antibiotic shot and a non-conclusive test) then basically kicked the can down the road and told us to take him somewhere else. ****ers. I'll never go back there again.

Anyway, what's done is done. He was a needy, neurotic pain in the ass, but I sure will miss him. :(

Mine took it much better than I expected. I figured she'd insist on the surgery/extended treatment, but she saw the futility of it.

Of course, it probably didn't hurt that this cat was 100% mine. Other than howling at her every morning to fill the food bowl, he ignored her completely. :D

I have been reluctant to even post about my girl. She left on her own terms Dec. 3 crossing the bridge. Only 8 + change, AKC Black Lab. Good girl. Two weeks prior I had taken her to the vet for her yearly check-up and shots. Everything checked out OK, near $500 for the bill. Then on that Tuesday morning in December she let out a howl and I went to check on her. She looked at me, laid down, put her head down in my hands and took two last breaths. Tore me up. But it's not my first rodeo at my age. I want another puppy but I am waiting for spring. House breaking a pup in Mid Mo at 3:00am in February sucks, been there done that.

Sorry to hear. It’s tough losing a pet, even the needy neurotic ones.
I lost my outdoor cat pal in September. Hell of a good cat and great fishing buddy.
Saved her out of a storm sewer from work as a kitten and took her to the vet. Vet said she was a she but later it became apparent she was a he so we called her our TransCat mockingly.
She must have got into some poison or bad food. Went missing for a couple days and so I went looking for her. Found her barely alive by the lakeshore and got her to the house and cared for her the best I could. She was dead next day.
She had had big personality and the whole family misses her/he TransCat

I've been there, but I'd offer this, he was in pain and wanted to be with nobody else when he grew his wings. No time soon, but you'll see him again, and he'll be 100% and ready to scratch the sofa and hand out some skippty-paps to make you laugh.
