How was he against the top defenses in the league?

Under twenty points Vs Browns, Cinci and Ravens. With seven interceptions and two touchdowns in those three games.

Reminds me of Mahomes but without the elite arm. Very accurate. Probably should have been a 3-5 round pick in the draft. To beat Purdy and the 49ers you've got to get him into situations where he throws prayer balls. Baltimore got blown up by the SF offense but forced Purdy into situations where he threw dumb picks.

Purdy can look really, really good and can throw on the move a bit but even with those weapons, I don't think SF's pass protection is good enough for him to feel comfortable and get into a groove against us.

SF will move the ball and score, but we will get some stops and wouldn't be surprised if we picked him off.

Uh oh. Not good numbers for someone who is about to face the best defense in the league.

I'm not saying he's a bad player.

But he is not a top 10 NFL QB. He's in a QB-friendly scheme with incredible offensive talent around him and played in the JV conference.

He's definitely not top 5.

He's so top 5 that there are like 15 QB's Shanahan would trade him for in a second.

He's a smaller shittier Justin Herbert, he's like if Herbert had a kid brother who got the runt genes.

He's less talented than Herbert but Purdy's film says otherwise. I'd honestly say Purdy > Herbert right now.

I've never bought a Super Bowl patch jersey. Strongly considering right now.

Someone, anyone - convince me why I should or shouldn't do this before the game.

All jokes and stupid conspiracies aside, I love the logo this year.

I'm not buying anything until after the game and hopefully the Chiefs come out on top. I'm looking for some Back to Back and Dynasty merchandise.

People sleep on this kid because he's a 7th round pick but he's >>>> Tua, Herby, Kirk and all the other QB's outside of the top five.

19 red zone TDs.

And as we discussed with Lamar Jackson back in 2020 when 24 of Jackson's 38 TDs were inside the red zone, Red Zone touchdown percentage isn't a repeatable skill set. Nobody's shown an ability in NFL history to maintain a superior red zone TD%.

Jackson certainly hasn't ever done it again and as a consequence has averaged 25 TDs/16 games thereafter.

Brock Purdy is, like Jackson, a 22-24 TD/yr passer unless he spikes his red zone TD% in any given year, as he did this year. But we know that's not a real skill but rather a statistical oddity.

He's...fine. He's a MASSIVE asset for the 49ers because he's an average QB making backup punter money. And like I said earlier, he can have moments of really good play because he's just completely fearless and fine+fearless will equal productive as hell for periods.

But it's also going to yield some pretty ragged football when he gets off-kilter. And he'll be easier to get off-kilter than a better player would be.

Purdy doens't worry me.

If Herbert was in Shanahan's scheme people would be like holy **** this guy rules. That system makes average QB's good producers so a guy with Herberts talent would be a monster.

Jimmy G had 400 less yards and 4 less TDs (with one less game) in 2019 when they went to the Superbowl. Purdy isn't really anything special.

Mecca 01-30-2024 11:26 AM

Purdy is probably the worst QB to start a SB since Goff and that is arguable..if I was being super honest I'd say Rex Grossman.

I actually think at that time Jimmy was better than Purdy as he wouldn't turn it over. It's Shanahan's scheme.

Shannahan forced his GM to trade picks and move up to draft Trey Lance. He gleefully passed on Mahomes. Went out of his way to sign JimmyG and kept him on the roster for years...And he'll cut Purdy lose next year and go all in for his buddy Kirk Cousins and they'll win 10 games. He's an idiot boy.

And Herbert is mentally soft. He folded in the playoffs last year just like he has his entire year. He's a joke.

Mecca 01-30-2024 11:28 AM

If the 49ers had Kirk Cousins they'd be much more dangerous than they are today.
