If this fight would have been stopped in the 3rd round like it should have been, it would have gone down as one of the greatest fight cards in modern UFC history.
Instead, due to reeruned macho Australian sensibilities where the ref and doctor both refused to call the fight when their hero Mark Hunt was involved, the main event severely tainted this card. That was hard to watch. |

Pettis and Khabib continue to take shots at each other over being hurt, while neither can fight twice in a row without dropping out due to injury. Just wacky

Massive new penalties have been approved in Nevada, the UFC will adopt them for regions that they self-regulate in with no AC, and Nevada is going to ask all AC's to adopt similar penalties.
Also, a failed test in Nevada will result in a Loss rather than a No Contest. New penalties are effective September 1st. Sedatives, Opiates, and Weed 1st time: 18 months, 30-40% of purse 2nd time: 2 years, 40-50% of purse 3rd time: 3 years, 60-75% of purse 4th time: Life, 100% of purse As before, MJ will still be banned only in-competition and only tested for on the night of the fight. Stimulants (including amphetamines and cocaine) 1st time: 2 years, 35-45% of purse 2nd time: 3 years, 50-60% of purse 3rd time: Life, 100% of purse Another change here: going forward, stimulants (including cocaine) will not be treated the same as MJ, and will now always be banned and will be tested for out of competition. Steroids 1st time: 3 years, 50-70% of purse 2nd time: 4 years, 75-100% of purse 3rd time: Life, 100% of purse Avoid/running from a test or using masking agents to beat a test 1st time: 4 years, 50% of purse 2nd time: Life, 100% of purse |
Wow! Steep.

The funny thing is, this is probably going to be forced upon boxing as well, and I imagine the boxing promoters aren't too thrilled, but Dana White and the Fertittas are powerful in Vegas, and they wanted new huge penalties for combat sports.

Wooooow. Thpse are stiff penalties. JBJ better drop the coke habit.
|
All the other major sports should adopt those.
|
Those penalties are a little excessive.

Saw one clarification by Ariel Helwani wrt the failed test leading to a loss; a non-cheating fighter who lost to someone who failed a test won't get a win, they will still have a No Contest.
Also, diuretics are complicated. If they are detected "in-competition" for the night of the fight, they will assume you were using them to cut weight and the punishment is similar to stimulants, but with a slightly lower financial penalty. If found out of competition, then they will assume you are using it as a masking agent, which carries the most severe set of punishments. |
