Jaden Nickens (former Oklahoma commit) and Justin Thurman (former Notre Dame commit) were both 4-star recruits with 5.8 ratings by Rivals. They decommitted and both signed with KU in the same week, coincidentally their rankings plummeted and were both downgraded to 3-star (5.7 and 5.6 respectively ratings) the days they committed to KU. Good times.

I believe Isaiah Marshall ended up as the backup by the end of the season.

JD has to be gone (I believe he has a year of eligibility left). Even if he wants to keep playing, he probably needs a fresh start. With losing these receivers and Neal, his life here isn’t getting any easier.

So are we assuming Marshall as QB next year? I’d be a little surprised to see us make a splash in the Portal for someone better.

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 01:54 PM

Man, Nagy is living the life.

Gets to be rich. Work as Andy Reid’s OC. Work with Mahomes and Kelce. Win Super Bowls.

And now, his son will play D1 ball within driving distance.

Can’t beat that.

Who are you going to kick out of the Top 4?

Skatteboo - Main reason ASU is going to the B12 CG, and 3rd leading rusher in the B12
Harvey - Leading Rusher in the B12

Giddens - 4th leading usher and 2nd highest YPC
Brooks - 2nd leading rusher in the B12

That's a stacked and talented group in the B12

Blame the coaching staff who didn't stick with the run in most of the games despite Neal averaging over 6 yards a carry.

Honestly one of the dumbest coached football seasons I've ever seen.

I was shocked Morrison didn't leave last year, but meh to that. There are some really nice options in the program still at RB.

Losing Warner is painful, and I'm surprised the staff didn't fight with some NIL to retain.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. He was clearly still recovering at the beginning of the year and got better as the year went on. Yet he still obviously made mistakes. It probably raises the floor for next year but also lowers the ceiling because he is what he is at this point: and gunslinger who can occasionally make huge plays and also make dumb mistakes.

KC_Connection 12-06-2024 07:31 PM

I'd be surprised if we could do better than Daniels next year at QB but we saw what he was without Kotelnicki hiding his flaws (and there were quite a few).

smithandrew051 12-06-2024 07:40 PM

He was quite a bit better about 2/3 of the way through the year until the Baylor game.

Had he played that way all year, we probably win 8 games.

If he’s healthy with a better OC, then that’s probably fine.

I’d rather just throw Marshall in there though. Let him grow with the next batch of weapons.

Chiefspants 12-06-2024 08:04 PM

This tells me KU believes Grimes was the problem (as Daniels’ people said in a professional way after we went 1-5).

What a catastrophic hire that was by Lance and co. They better get the next one right.

SithCeNtZ 12-06-2024 09:11 PM

Also, I know that college sports has come to this, but it's sad that this announcement isn't that he came back to Kansas because he likes the program or wants to win a championship, it's that he "signed a new deal". I don't blame anyone for getting their money of course, it's just a little depressing this is what the NIL situation has become.

Ceej 12-07-2024 06:59 AM

JD6 is probably better than any other option at the moment - Ballard, Marshall, McComb.

That being said -

good luck to him because I feel like the offense next year is going to be pretty below average.

It is unlikely that Daniels earns a paycheck at the NFL level. Good on him for getting that bag.

Hell, if he's properly invested his NIL money, he could be set to do just about anything he wants.

He’s a likeable guy with a big personality.

I think he should transition into being part of the Hawks sports networks as an analyst of some kind.

I doubt he’d say anything overly insightful, but he’s got personality and name recognition in the program.

IF he beats KSU in our first match in the new stadium and gets a bowl W next year he’ll be able to do whatever he wants in Lawrence after graduation.

KC_Connection 12-07-2024 01:39 PM

He could try to make a go of it in the CFL (has the skillset for that kind of football) but I imagine he's gonna get more next year than a CFL team would give him.

That’s kinda what I’m thinking.

If he has a bounce back year, then be a local celebrity in a place that loves you.

Look at what KU fans think of Jason Bean now compared to two years ago. He’d be royalty in Lawrence.

I had never heard of this guy but he was 16-17. His only miss was from 50+.

He was like 42-44 on PATs too.

Weird he came to KU. Even the big schools seem to have bad kickers.

I just hope we can get some receivers in. I know we grabbed a good recruit or two and a transfer.

KU just seems to figure RBs out. Defense shouldn’t drop off too much, but most college defenses suck anyway.

Losing Mello Dotson, Cobee Bryant, JB Brown, Marvin Grant, OJ Burroughs, Cornell Wheeler, Caleb Taylor, Jereme Robinson, and Dylan Wudke to graduation and our DC (Borland) retiring doesn't lead you to believe there will be much drop off on Defense?

The entire roster is turning over, not really sure what to expect next season. Like at all.

To be fair, the fall of Alabama started with the HC retiring. But yeah, that's probably also connected to what this post is saying.
