Really, download tapatalk app if for nothing else than posting pics on here. That's all I use it for and it's super simple.

Oh and I typically have a bottle of Rare Breed on hand. One of my favorites at a decent price point.

Everyone has a different taste for bourbon. I myself get strange looks when I tell them I'd soon have a nice couple of fingers of Rowan's Creek than bourbons three times its price point. That finish is like no other to me it's unique.

srvy 07-31-2021 07:21 PM

Russell's Reserve Rye the green label makes a fine old-fashioned and it is not unreasonably priced. A cheaper option but still quality for old fashions Old Overholt.

What’s a recommended cheap vodka for cocktails? Cheapest you’ll go without drinking something like Nikolai. Not going to Costco before tomorrow so not Kirkland brand please.

Have you tried New Amsterdam? It's literally dirt cheap and I actually find it to be higher quality than pretty much any of the mainstream top shelf brands.

Incredibly smooth and crisp and you don't get that "cheap vodka" rotgut at all. It has literally become my go to vodka.

That’s what I was just recommended by my parents! Lol. They said it’s great and cheap.

Lol thanks.

Your folks are spot on. It's almost weird how good it is, every now and then I'll buy some Kettle One (my previous preferred brand) and i can't believe how bitter it is compared to New Amsterdam, and I just end up regretting not buying the cheaper stuff.

They could literally sell it for double the price and I'd still choose it just because it's that good.

Friends over for brunch and 10 am Bloody Mary’s followed by a swim in the pool.

I forgot pictures of the drinks but loaded with pickles, cheese, olives and bacon. They brought over a great Blood Mary mix made by Kroger actually. It was fantastic.

A relative coming over later for lime martinis.

Nap time for now.

I've been gifted two bottles of Jack Daniel's during the past year. One was a neighbor doing grocery pickup in which she was given a 1.75L of JD even though she didn't order any alcohol and they don't even drink!

I'm not a JD fan so it's gets mixed in my favorite drink. Add a little cherry in there and they go down quickly.

Wife's bday celebration. Her mom called dibs on tonight and my dad graciously offered to take him last night and get him delivered to the other grandparents this afternoon. All my dad's idea and I was in no position to turn this opportunity down.

Just lock him in there with a couple bags of goldfish and a tablet and some water and let him out on Monday morning.

Those are delicious. Had an Old Fashioned with them at the hotel bar in Eureka Springs a few years ago and they met the hype the bartender put out there. I just haven't found the balls to drop $20+ on cherries yet.

I hear these are just as good, so I'll be giving them a try. But you're right, the Luxardo ones are amazing, just spendy as hell. I was introducted them at an establishment named Minervas in Sioux Falls, using an Islay Scotch, and man, I was hooked. But a good Islay Scotch, as I've come to find out, comes at the price of liquid gold! But it's so worth it...

There's a restaurant/bar in Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale called Wally's and they use the Luxardo Cherries to add to their vodka soaked pineapple on ice.
I love eating those. Cost like 10x's typical Marachino cherries most bars use.

Yes.. But any Islay whiskey, because of the heavy peat flavor, is going to seem very stiff until it settles.

And just when I decided to go the round ice cube route, now I've experience these square cubes and their benefit. My wife is going to shoot me when I buy a square cube maker. But that's going to be easy as compared to when she sees the bottles of scotch that suddenly appear... LMAO

But seriously, if your local to KC, call this place (the couple who took us said you need a reservation) and stop in for a great cocktail...

I have a sphere ice cube thing and a large square one.... I haven't quite figured out the secret to them (I've read different things in terms of boiling, boiling twice, using filtered water, etc.). They last longer, but still seem to melt faster than those at the bar.

I've read you can freeze an entire cooler of ice and that slow method of freezing makes for clear ice.... a local bar does something similar and I'll see them chopping up huge blocks of ice behind the bar.

I'd love to know the secret too. I was told to use distilled water and it still had clouds in it. But you're right, the cubes at these bars are clears and last forever. That said, with the slow melt it does take a while for the Old Fashion to settle. That's OK, it's not like you slam drinks like these.

Had a Lost Viking Nitro followed with a shot of the newer Jameson Stout Barrel Caskmates. I really liked it and will buy a bottle. A little sweeter and I could taste the beer profile.

Oh shit, I thought that was today...

I've never tried that one. Their heavy stout right now is Te Quiero, a tequila barrel stout. Not a tequila drinker, but it's pretty damn good.
