So I've been trying different bourbons and I'd still argue Blantons is one of the best I've had but that sample of EH Taylor OTW sent me was a game changer. It just sucks that like Blantons is been damn near impossible to find around the KC area.

Frys Grocery is doing a bourbon heritage month and sporadically through the month adding different offerings. They had the entire 1792 line today but only the Full Proof was a single barrel pick. Was only $39 so picked one up. Was lucky to find it this morning!

Just for educational purposes.
Having an infinity bottle, if you didn’t know the term. It’s taking an empty bottle or decanter and adding a single pour from good bottles of bourbon/whiskey (my 1792 above qualifies). I prefer to add the pour to my infinity bottle when I crack the bottle but some prefer it to be the last pour. Over time you have a bottle that is blending many various bourbons/whiskeys and can become quite good and different. Give it a shot. |
I keep an infinity bottle for bourbon but don't really ever use it for anything but cocktails.

Guys the key to avoiding hangovers is orange juice before bed. Has worked great for me.

32oz of OJ at 4 AM (Pineapple OJ even better)
Another bottle, or Powerade, from 6am to 9. |

For a starter to the Bourbon world, what would be a good few smoother ones to try?
I find bourbon a little tougher to drink than Scotch or Whiskey |

Went with the Stagg Jr. I’ll let you know when I try it. Thanks! |

I can get you some OTWP.
Best way is to get to know people and get on a certain list. |

Sounds like you’ve got a connection where you live. Keep them happy! OTWP. join the Arizona Bourbon Society on Facebook. That group will buy barrels quite often. |

I was able to pick up a bottle of McKenna 10 and Stagg Jr. recently at pretty solid prices, compared to what I've seen in the past in the midwest.

Do I build myself a nice shelf to put all my bourbon and glasses on, or do I build myself a cart?
Would like a cart but I have a 18 month old running around, she is a ****ing tornado. So that makes me lean shelf, but don’t really have a good place to put it. Any suggestions? |
Getcha a dumped barrel and convert it into a cabinet
That's what I'd do if my wife didn't hate all things rustic. |

I got 2 bottles of Blantons yesterday. Might part with one if anyone is interested. |
Maybe checkout IKEA for a liquor cabinet. They have a lot of stuff like that.
Liqour armoire are pretty kewl but can set you back some. https://foter.com/photos/256/bar-cabinet-ikea.jpg |
Also kids can find a way to get too exposed shelving. My son has a large display of legos star wars figures he put together as kid. I hung shelving on his bedroom walls. Well my daughter saw where I put a yardstick in a closet and knocked everyone down and was playing with them when me and my son were outside. Wife had fallen asleep and thats how fast it can happen.
We have a dining room armoire and I keep my bourbon in the cabinet below the the glass display above. The nice thing is its lockable and it keeps it out of direct sunlight. I dont know if its really true that bourbon needs to be kept out of sunlight like wine or beer I just read it somewhere. |

Now that doesn't mean to leave your bourbon collection on the dashboard of your car over the summer but I wouldn't worry about leaving bottles out on some shelves where there is light. |

That Uncle Nearest is phenomenal

Going with a shelf for now, since we are moving soon, buying a new house. Then after we move I will build myself a cart or cabinet with a lockable part to keep kids out

No Full Proof, mostly Small Batch. But there were a few bottles of Bottled in Bond, which I snatched up. I think I like it more than Full Proof. |

Wife is going to set up a blind tasting for me and my dad today. It's always pretty amazing to see what you can pick out and what you really like without knowing the pour.

Blind bourbon flight for my birthday.
https://i.imgur.com/AatYEZQ.jpg My blind ranking when as follows: 1. Knob Creek barrel pick 2. Rare Breed (best easily available bourbon you can find IMO) 3. Michter's toasted rye 4. Infinity bottle |
I've read alot of good things about Knob Creek single barrell

Anyone willing to head to Plaza Liquor and buy/ship one of these wine bottles for me?
|

What’s the price? |
$50 for the wine and I think $30 for the Crown.
|
I got a bottle of the crown here in Springfield for 30

Meanwhile, I’m drinking Buffalo Trace with peasant ice.

Definitely worth the buy for me, but it’s my first toasted barrel so YMMV. |

Also at some point in the future if anyone can get EH Taylor I would be glad to pay for it. I cant find it around here and that sample OTW sent me was really ****ing good.

Scrolled past 1792 talk... I saw some of the full proof, but at 65% probably a bit hard core for my current tastes. |
Quote:
Don’t be totally scared of high proof offerings. What’s nice about a high proof bourbon is with water you can proof it down to accommodate your preference. That’s basically all that’s happened to normal 80-90 proof bourbon before bottling. |
