True, but being the second largest shareholder of any public company gives them extraordinary influence over corporate management and policy.

This is absolutely false.

Frank White is a joke trying to come out like a hero on the tax situation in Johnson County.

Frank is trying to act like this will soften the public up to calm them down. Meanwhile this bill will face legal problems.

'Our seniors cannot afford to wait': Jackson County executive calls for implementation of Senate Bill 190 at local level.

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. —
Jackson County Executive Frank White Jr. said Thursday that the county should immediately implement Senate Bill 190, a bill signed by Missouri Gov. Mike Parson that would help freeze property tax rates for seniors.

White said he is planning to issue an emergency contract with a third-party consultant that will bring the "necessary expertise and resources to expedite the review and effective implementation of the bill."

"We are on the clock. Our seniors cannot afford to wait," White said in a statement. "Unless a written objection is received from a member of the County Legislature by the end of next week, I plan to proceed with identifying a qualified contractor immediately. If any objections arise, we will follow the formal procurement procedures outlined in Chapter 10 of our Code of Ordinances."

It's not a thread about raising taxes. It's a thread about skyrocketing home values.

The premise of the thread is that Jackson County (the government in this case) is screwing its citizens

The government isn't selling us anything.. They're extorting us at basically gunpoint.

But that's an argument for a different forum.

I can't speak for KC residents, but if you see my earlier posts in this thread, my county 100% is screwing me.

Young people are struggling even harder.

There's not much they can do about that, but they could reduce the levies that will result in higher taxes. But they won't because politicians love your tax dollars.

Some of the assessments are certainly way off, but many of them are not and the citizens are pissed because they are finally being assessed correctly after paying way under what they should have been for years. Even the poster who started this thread admits the assessment on his home is correct.

Home prices have risen everywhere the past few years due to historically low interest rates and increased demand. This will slow down with the raising of interest rates and inflation. Of course you have posters like stevieray who think home values should be based on what it cost to build the home back in 1960, but that isn't reality.
