Lets talk about Career Opportunities (1991), the movie every guy watched specifically for Jennifer Connelly.

Never knew this movie existed until a few years ago. The guy in it plays a cheesedick in everything, too. He even tried to **** Mr. Wallace like a bitch.

I'm fairly convinced that 20-something Jennifer Connelly is the most perfect, beautiful woman to ever live.

Worked with her briefly when I was on Little Children. She's basically tits on a stick, but she is very pretty and was refreshingly cool as hell. Man.... that was almost 20 years ago. Yikes.

That's good to hear. Obviously has zero impact on me, but it's always nice to know that some of these people are decent and not the kind of bitch who'll get you fired for saying hello or *gasp* daring to make eye contact.

My cousin works alongside the announcers for FOX and when he was working SB 36 he tried to talk to J-Lo and she said don't talk to me. I'm not shocked he tried to hit on her, he's got balls of steel when it comes to talking to women. ROFL

Got lucky on that one. Both the female leads, Kate Winslet and Jennifer were very cool. Kate is a ****ing gem. Worked with her a few times, and she's awesome. That whole cast was great, really. Jackie Haley is another gem. Super cool guy.

Got lucky enough to work with her too on El Cantante. She ran very hot and cold. Was married to Mark Anthony at the time, and he was great. But she could really be a pain in the ass when she wanted to be. But honestly, the biggest prick on that particular film was the director. What a ****ing asshole he was.

That was a great movie. There's a scene in a conference room of the marketing firm he used to work for where the CEO asks one of the marketing directors to tell him something truthful and the guy panics and says something like "I-I-I like young boys!" And the CEO screams at him "ABOUT THE PRODUCT YOU IDIOT!!!"

I laughed for ten minutes straight after that one.

Yes. Same with Roku and a few others. Lots of old TV series as well. Nothing edited with limited short commercials, and a timer running during commercial breaks so you know exactly how long you have to wait. I'm a big fan.

That's a good one Pepe. I blew a friend's wife's mind (huge Grey's Anatomy fan) when I showed her all the movies Dempsey was in during his youth.

It's the Robert Downey Jr. effect. People act like he didn't exist prior to 2008. It's really weird.

Both of these movies are classics, Streets of Fire one of my all time favorites. Diane Lane was only 18 years old but wow, she was unforgettable in her role. Eddie and The Cruisers and The Warriors are a couple more of my favorites. Willem Dafoe made a great villain in Streets of Fire:

Her rack sneaks up on you, too.

The reveal….

“Where do you get off having tits?!?!” LMAO

As I recall, they were spectacular.

Funny how some women have amazing stealth boobs. I used to work with a girl who was pretty but seemingly nothing spectacular. Was around her daily for months. Then we went to a concert one night, and HOLY SHIT. She had a rack that was nothing short of amazing, accentuated by the top she was wearing. Apparently she had a clear work mode and going out on the town mode, and I had no idea. Hair, makeup, everything. She cleaned up into one of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen and I'd seen her regularly forever and never had a clue. She must have worn an iron truss to the office every day.

Made a bit of an ass of myself because I couldn't stop staring at her chest. Her boyfriend didn't seem to like it much. Neither did my date. :D

Honey, I Shrunk The Kids (1989)

Saw this in the theaters as a kid. I always liked Rick Moranis.

Weird Science with Kelly LeBrock, Robert Downey JR, Anthony Michael Hall and Bill Paxton....plus Judie Aronson was pretty hot too....

The Original Red Dawn was good too...had a great cast too...

Another mostly forgotten 80s movie is James Cameron's The Abyss. It came out between the much more successful and acclaimed Aliens and Terminator 2, but is a great film in its own right. The early CGI it employed still holds up and was the progenitor for the groundbreaking stuff in T2 and everything else that came later.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, I recommend sticking to the theatrical release. The director's cut throws in a brewing war subplot that adds absolutely nothing and detracts from the main story.

And if you ever run into Ed Harris, don't ask him about this movie. Cameron basically tried to drown him multiple times during the movie's production and he apparently had a serious problem with that.

Yea. That movie is amazing. From my understanding they filmed most of the underwater stuff inside an abandoned nuclear plant or something? A big budget sci-fi movie would never be made today with so much practical effects.

For years it wasn't even available on blu-ray. I just checked Amazon, though, and now it is (also 4K).

I might actually have to buy that.

Deberg_1990 04-13-2025 01:45 PM

And I would consider The Abyss, T2 and Jurassic Park as being the films with the biggest effects breakthroughs of the last 35 years. They all made massive digital breakthroughs.

Especially T2. I remember seeing it for the first time in the theater. When the T-1000 poured itself into the helicopter and reformed, I said to myself "They can do anything now." That was a watershed moment.

Another interest note on The Abyss - I've actually had the helmet (or one of the helmets) that Ed Harris used in the movie on my head. My buddy who deals in movie memorabilia acquired it and had it for a few weeks before flipping it. That was cool.

Very cool! I think there is a documentary out there about the making of it?

But the legend has alway been that Cameron was a dickhead and Harris and Mastrantonio don’t talk about the experience of making it. But they both gave tremendous performances.

CB4 (1993) Use to make me laugh until I cried.

Watched this recently again and the fact that they actually had that rat breathing liquid oxygen (and that it survived) still blows my mind.

I had nightmares when the submersible went over the edge and then the sound of glass cracking with the pop when it reached crush depth.

Was a great movie!

Thought of another random one today. “Disorganized Crime”. Good little heist movie from 1989. No huge stars, unless you count Fred Gwynne, Ed O’Neil, Lou Diamond Phillips, Corbin Bernsen or Ruben Blades as huge stars. Just a fun little movie that came and went with little to no fanfare. The chemistry with these guys is great.

Vampire's Kiss (Nicolas Cage) and The River's edge (Crispin Glover, Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper)

both late 1980's

Speaking of Chris Rock... Dogma was such a great movie.

Yea. I remember that. Hadnt thought about it in decades.

Just looked it up. It’s an old Disney/Touchstone movie and they have buried a lot of those titles.

This is a good one. All of the actors were hitting on all cylinders for Dogma.

Saving Silverman used to be my favorite movie.
