I mean, Ted freakin Williams only got 93% for his induction!

Who were the 7% ****ing morons that didn't think HE belonged in the Hall of Fame?!?

So, again, a lot of 'politics' and who likes you and who doesn't.

Speaking of politics, Tom Seaver got 425 of 430 votes in 1992, which at the time, was the highest percentage (98.8%) on writer's ballot in Hall of Fame voting history.

The five non-votes were tracked down.

Three didn't vote for Seaver as a protest for Pete Rose not being included on the ballot.

One didn't vote for Seaver because he never voted for candidates in their first year. This is the type of voter that gives the whole voting body a bad rep.

The last one made a mistake on his ballot and checked the wrong box, which was meant for Seaver.

Adding to this, there's politics on both the writer's ballot and the commitee processes, which looks at the players the writers passed over.

C.C. Sabathia was probably not your typical first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he was well liked by the writers, so he's in the first try.

Curt Schilling has a much superior career to Sabathia, but he goes 10 years on the writer's ballot and doesn't get in because of non-baseball reasons.

In December of 2022, the Contemporary Era Committee has a chance to get Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens into the HOF after the writers passed over them. They both get less than four votes out of 16 total.

Instead, the Contemporary Era Committee votes in Fred McGriff because he's a good guy and everybody likes him!

Demonpenz 01-25-2025 12:15 AM

Fred McGriff helped Tom emanskis team win back to back to back aau championships

Sneaky solid move considering they're probably going to move Bubic to the rotation.

I'm curious to see what Quatraro says but my guess is that Estevez will close since that's his traditional role and Lucas Erceg will serve as their stopper that can be deployed anywhere between the 6th and 9th innings, depending on the scenario.

Bubic was dynamite in the second half with a 32% K rate, 4% BB rate and 28% K-BB. He also had a 53% groundball rate.

PHOG 01-29-2025 07:32 PM

Very nice! But I don't know about Bubic in the rotation, but I suppose they have to find out one way or another.

I don't know, man. He kinda peaked at Young Guns 2.

Ocotillo 01-29-2025 07:38 PM

The pros with Estevez is he is a strike thrower and misses bats.

The only worry is that he had a 50% flyball rate in 2024.

He's going to pitch at least half of his games in Kaufman Stadium.

22M for a reliever? I guess we are going the Iowa Hawkeyes football route and just gonna try to not let em score.

Can't have enough bullpen arms. Solid move. Rany being a bitch on Twitter about it.

CaliforniaChief 01-29-2025 10:39 PM

I wish we had added Profar. That or Joc Pederson plus this would have been great.

ChiefsCountry 01-30-2025 12:36 PM

JJ has really flipped the bullpen into a strength. Got power arms now. Can really play into different situations. Team has 5 legit power arms with strikeout ability in Erceg, Estevez, Zerba, Hernandez and Harvey.

He's pretty much a bitch all of the time.

GabyKeepsMeWarm 01-30-2025 02:10 PM

Just think, we went into last season with MacArthur as our closer…. My how things have changed…

Bullpen has the potential to be a real strength if most of the guys play up to their stats and ability. Lot more depth going into this season.

Won’t likely be as dominant as the HDH years, but we could be getting close, especially if Harvey can be healthy and perform to his ability.

Now cmon JJ, pull the magic lever and get us another hitter!

Nobody gets to choose their names (unless they later change it), but he was born Rany Jazayerli. Been an uphill battle for that guy from day 1.

Even in 2015, he was still being a bitch.

He wasn't being a bitch - he pointed out that Sheen is a good not great reliever and that while he was happy to see the Royals add payroll... he wished it was for an outfielder.

I don't think they are controversial opinions.

Infidel Goat 01-30-2025 05:22 PM

We need to find the right trade partner, but I believe bundling one of our young catchers with someone who has a young, promising, controllable outfielder makes the most sense given the likely reality of our payroll.

Flaherty was really good last season. But before that he's hasn't been good for 4 years. He's been borderline awful at times, even. The talent is there, he needs to find that consistency, though. High risk/high reward.

Flaherty probably made the right move going back to the Tigers' pitching lab under Chris Fetter as they were the ones who fixed him.

The Tigers made out well renting him to the Dodgers as they acquired SS Trey Sweeney, who is probably not a first division regular but was an upgrade because he wasn't Javier Baez.

They also landed catcher Thayron Liranzo, who is on some top 100 lists. He has big time power and a big time throwing arm, similar to our guy Blake Mitchell. The Tigers are also flushed with catcher depth as they have Josue Briceno, the Arizona Fall League MVP.

I get bored hunting after a couple minutes. Makes sense.

Just covers this year and 2 years of arbitration.

cabletech94 02-14-2025 08:08 PM

And that'll work too!

BWillie 02-14-2025 09:17 PM

Biggio or Loftin to make roster as super utility guy

dlphg9 02-15-2025 12:05 AM

Gonna have to trade for any type of bat.

poolboy 02-15-2025 12:11 AM

would even take some type of platoon situation in the OF at this point

Yes please and thank you.

We get a stud ace for peanuts through age 30. Get his best WAR years and probably can let him walk easy or get some value at the end.

Sassy Squatch 02-15-2025 12:15 PM

How is Caglianone looking?

Boxer_Chief 02-15-2025 01:59 PM

Caglianone

.241 .302 .388 in A+ 2hr in 29 games
.236 .300 .449 in fall ball in just 20 games with 5 hrs

Sassy Squatch 02-15-2025 02:06 PM

Totally honest here, I'm a fairweather fan at best and those numbers mean near **** all to me. Is that good or bad?

BWillie 02-15-2025 02:37 PM

How much will the Bavarian Pretzels be or will they just have shitty Aramark stuff?

I'd say the numbers are probably about what was to be expected from him, making the jump from college to pro ball. He's got a big swing. He knows how to draw some walks, but also tends to strike out a lot. Massive power potential. He's a top 100 MLB prospect for now, but this will be a big year for him, and there will be a lot more to go on and evaluate after he gets through 2025. Unless he just blows the doors off in 2025, I wouldn't expect him to crack the MLB roster until sometime in 2026 or 2027.

I'm sure there are plenty of experts on here who could probably tell you more.

Okay, so still have a year or two before he's ready.

Like the starting rotation. But man, it would have been so nice to see a decent bat instead of Renfroe. That kind of sucks.

poolboy 02-16-2025 06:02 PM
