It'll be interesting to see what Self does for him in that regard. And I'm under no delusion that money wasn't a primary factor for players before NIL, but the old fart in me doesn't love the idea of all the roster turnover and guys in new systems every year and so forth. And it's similar to some of the one and dones of the past... they don't give a shit if they win a NC for KU or not and you throw out all of the experience of playing in a system with the same coach and players around you for one shot at something (obviously if they do, then yay... just seems like a losing battle in that regard). |

Sadly, I don’t see any of those guys (except maybe Agbaji because he’s a Kansas kid) sticking around in today’s game. They’d all be recruited over through the portal and probably leave after a year of not getting enough playing time. |
Quote:
But yeah, you think way back to where that 2008 team started, or the guys you mentioned... it's special to watch over the course of a few years while maybe plugging in a one-and-done guy; not (so far) the other way around. |
Storr is a frustrating player. He takes alot of bad shots but he's a talented one. We desperately need a player like him to be able to score without being assisted. He also does a good job at drawing fouls. He should see much less usage at Kansas and Self will have him ready to be his best self.
|
The difference between UW Storr and KU Storr is that he's not going to be expected to be the leading scorer. He's not going to have to do all of the work.
Also sounds like the #1 PG in the 2025 class will be on campus this weekend too. |
Rumor is things still look good with Griffen.
I’d also hope we’re all over Kobe Brea if someone else leaves. He shot 50% (on 6 attempts per game!!!) from 3 last year. He also wasn’t a starter at Dayton, so I’d think he’d be fine just being a part of the rotation. He fell just short of a 50/50/90 shooting split last year. Insane. |

I like Brea because I don’t think he’s going to check out if he isn’t a starter. He seems likely to accept a 6th man role. |

You could run Mayo at the point for stretches with those 3 on the wings and Dickinson at the 5. Those spacing issues would be a thing of the past. |

My Badger buddy is mad we Got Storr

Imagine this line up....I mean somebody would want to transfer..I mean portal, right?
STARTING LINE UP PG: DaJuan Harris, 6'2'' SG: Rylan Griffen, 6'6'' SF: AJ Storr, 6'7'' PF: KJ Adams, 6'7'' C: Hunter Dickinson 7'2'' ------------------- SG: Zeke Mayo, 6'4'' PG: Philon Labaron, 6'3'' C: Flory Bidunga, 6'9'' SF: Riley Kugel, 6'5'' PF: Zach Clemence, 6'11'' SG: Elmarko Jackson, 6'3'' SG: Jamari McDowell, 6'4'' SG: Rakease Passmore, 6'4'' |
Not enough schollies for that. Aren't they still stuck with only 10 for another year?

It seems like a scholarship is much reduced in value/incentive when it comes to recruiting. The really good players can make so much in NIL that paying their own tuition would be no big deal. Scholarship limits become less and less of a barrier if you're a big money program.

HCBS really wants the NHL line change squad next year.
And I'm here for it. |

Instead, we let Sherron and Tyshawn completely shoot us out of the Northern Iowa game. |
I actually like Clemence as the 4th big assuming he stops shooting 3s

Philon decommitted tonight.
Kinda bummed, but this is the landscape of college basketball now. |

He would have never played, so can't say I'm surprised.
Hope we seal the deal on Griffen. |

Then just need Dickinson to make it official. |

Griffen.

Our shooting is going to be insane.
Storr, Griffen, Mayo can all light it up. Dickinson and Harris can shoot well enough to be respected. Go get Brea and let Kugel walk if he wants. |
Toldja he was in the bag. Never a doubt.

Natty or bust next year
|
People who view Veach's job as a Madden GM should become CBB fans.
|
I think Self is upset about our shooting last year.
|
He only has himself to blame for that
|
So I'm guessing we're looking at this right now:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GMGIJNRX...g&name=900x900 Although I think we should we find a way out of starting KJ with Dickinson again. |
Quote:
My issue with KJ as a starter is that he’s just so limited by his height/length and lack of any outside shot. He isn’t big enough to play under the basket. He isn’t any threat away from the basket. Perfectly fine for an energy big off the bench. But that’s really it. That’s why I want Bidunga to start. He’s got better height/length to play around the basket, but athletic enough to defend the opposing 4. He’d be the 5 on offense and 4 on defense. |
We could also go smaller with:
Harris Mayo Griffen Storr Dickinson I’m sure we’ll see that lineup plenty though. |
Is Timberlake gone or does he still have eligibility because I'm really hoping that he has no eligibility.

Now just have KJ on the bench and we're rolling. |
Vote you your PREFERRED starting lineup (NOT what you think we’ll do):
1: Harris Griffen Storr Adams Dickinson 2: Harris Griffen Storr Bidunga Dickinson 3: Harris Mayo Griffen Storr Dickinson 4: Harris Griffen Kugel Storr Dickinson 5: Something else |
3 intrigues me the more I think about it.
5 versatile guys who can all shoot the 3. That’s like an old Villanova lineup. |

You’d have Kugel for depth on the perimeter and 2 quality bench bigs. You can even stand to take a chance on Elmarko or Clemence developing too. |
Jon Rothstein’s Early Pre-Season Top 10 is pretty wild. Four of the top five from the Big12, not even factoring in Arizona(I don’t know what they lose, return, or bring in).

No surprise entries in the Portal.
Looks like the roster is pretty much set pending Kugel. Sounds like we’re still working for a few guys which maybe has something to do with that. Good to see McDowell and Elmarko see this through. Their best chance is being Self guys. |

Elmarko returning is actually shocking to me. Not something you’d expect to see in this era.
|
Quote:
He’s looking at being the 6th guard in the rotation (behind Harris, Mayo, Storr, Griffen, and Kugel) as of now. I’d assume he’s still ahead of McDowell. Elmarko has NBA athleticism, so there’s still a decent ceiling (unlike Pettiford or someone like that). Anything we get from him is a bonus, and maybe he develops into a nice 4 year player. |

Not only did he have to learn how to play with another PG, he had to learn it while playing at the University of Kansas, and also while playing a bunch of games against Top 10 teams, and then Top 25 teams. Plus, he also had to learn to play defense the Bill Self Way. Like, that's a lot of crap to throw at a kid in his first year of college basketball. I am not saying he is great, but you can clearly see the talent, and if you pay attention to him during games, you can see his brain working instead of just playing. If he had left, I would have understood, and I think it says a lot about him that he stayed. He could have left like a lot of players, such as Grimes (although it eventually worked out for him) but he didn't. |
What's the thought on Furphy? Is he for sure gone?
