It would be nice to have a competitive team again.

BWJ's salary is only $2.7 mil. this year. With the other FA additions, that should put the Royals payroll at somewhere around $115 to $120 million this year. |
Quote:
And Sherman is showing (finally) he is willing to put his money where his mouth is with the BWJ contract. Of course, this could just be all about the stadium and nothing else, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for the next few years. Once the stadium is done and the Royals move in (2027?) we'll see if he continues to put his best foot (i.e. wallet) forward. |
Can they go sign Matt Chapman now?

The small market thing has always been a flimsy excuse. These teams are ALL owned by GROUPS of billionaires and millionaires. If Sherman et al really start to put more of their skin in the game, we could see a sustained run of success (or at least competitiveness) for the first time since pro sports became big business. Would be pretty fun!

You can just look at the Padres and Mets the last couple years, blowing up their payrolls and it didn't work. You have to develop players to some degree even if you're a big market. |
Quote:
I think a smart front office should limit long-term contracts to players age 28 and under and in the Royals' case, preferably a homegrown star like Witt. Ideally, everyone wants to lock up players young like the Braves did, but sometimes you will have unwilling parties (Scott Boras' clients) that will take you to free agency and make you spend big against the entire market. |
Mother of God. Is this the same Royals I know and love (sometimes/rarely)?!?!?
|
So you bought out 3 years of Free Agency, eh? Congrats - even if he opts out, you essentially got 3 prime years for 3/$100 million. That's likely to be a real nice deal for those seasons.
You've locked him up through his age 30 season. And in all probability, unless he becomes an MVP caliber player on a legit HOF career track, he may just leverage the first of his opt-out years to ensure that the Royals pick up the last 3 seasons of their club options. That's not the sort of highway robbery teams like the Braves have pulled off with Acuna and Albies, but it's a nice deal and it's a little certainty for the franchise going forward. |

One of the biggest days in Royals history.
|
LMAO Las Vegas Mayor pretty much told Sherman and the As to **** off back to Oakland and that their stadium plans were nonsensical
|
Funnily enough, it was Mahomes who actually telegraphed this signing a couple of months back.
I just think there are too many KC names attached in ownership who are not going to want to be tied to a perpetually bare franchise. |
****ing still can't believe this.

I'm gonna keep saying it, and I know it's largely sentimental, but now we need to sign Zack Greinke! I still think the idea of him and Lyles piggybacking each other vice versa in starts could work. Or, just let Greinke work out of the bullpen. We'll never have enough pitching, and if this team is gonna be competitive and play meaningful baseball after Memorial Day, it would be nice to see Greinke play a part in it finally. |
Quote:
|
Greinke literally only has value if he's willing to be a 1 inning pitcher and if that's the case he isn't going to get 10 mill per.
|
Is there an article or quote out there from Greinke expressing an interest in playing ? He seemed pretty checked out by the time 2023 ended.

Greinke should be done. Watching Wainwright with the Cardinals last year was sad.
|
He's needs 21Ks to get to 3000. I imagine he's just chasing that and then might bow out.

The drawings for the new stadium at the Crossroads much better. Perfect spot for the stadium.

Wait, are they public already?

Interested in what the entertainment district looks like since its right next to P&L and the Crossroads is already pretty "entertained"

RIP to the Record Bar again.

That connection over to TMobile is pretty sweet

Looks decent enough

Essentially the Braves ballpark with a shit ton of Fountains.

I'm not mad about that, at all.

Talk about your cancer of concrete!

Hard to hate on the Royals right.now

Nice spacious parking lot too.
|
Where do they park all of the cars? 2-3 miles away and get bused in?

It would be smart for the Royals to let the Chiefs do most of the PR work to encourage support for the sales tax vote.
Just get Mahomes to record a personal message asking voters to vote yes… easy win. |

I had a good friend tell me over a year ago that he sat in on a meeting with city leaders and this spot is exactly what they (and the Royals) wanted. The leaders said they want it there to get an influx of business inside of P&L due to it basically being a black hole of money for the city since it opened.
|
Very impressive on how the Royals went from hosting anti-porn seminars in spring training to having a hooters bar down the 3rd base line with this new downtown stadium location in under a decade.

I don't mind the move, but the baseball capacity is about double of t- mobile so it probably is a question that needs to be addressed

kansas city karens worry more about parking and traffic than any city i've been when it actually has the least problems of any city its size.
|
This is a terrible place to put it. They'll literally be killing the cultural heart of the city. A thriving entertainment district full of great restaurants, music venues, and it all happened organically.
So let's just destroy it. |

I appreciate the aggressiveness of the plan though It’s what KC could use Forward thinking |

Also using the name “Royals Park” in the renderings… it’s not going to be called Kauffman Stadium? |

I assume they'll move the parade tomorrow to a more parking friendly part of town right? Where else would several hundred thousand people park?

The City isn't going to run busses every game day for baseball and certainly not free all over the metro. The Parade is a one day deal and the last two have been nightmares getting to and getting out.
Parking is not sexy when introducing your vision for the area. I imagine there is a plan it just wasn't mentioned and it will put more businesses out and historic bldgs will be raised. |
Quote:
I think we're likely at the end of seeing "Royals Stadium" or "Kauffman Stadium". Let the corporate bidding wars for naming rights begin! I'm guessing it'll be some version of Kauffman Field at "Insert Corporate Name" Stadium. |
Maybe Sherman thinks the City center itself will support baseball. Without adequate parking the burbs aren't going there without. We are car people!

I would think that surface lot north of Sprint Center would be turned into another parking garage and some of those over by Loews Hotel and Hampton Inn by the street car line.
|
Quote:
And expanding the strretcars is a whole ordeal in and of itself. It would be nice if they also expanded the bus service, which is abysmal in joco |
Personally, I might actually go to royals games if I could either bike or take a bus to the plaza and hop on the streetcar. I'm not a huge fan of the plan but I'm neither a huge royals fan or Jackson county resident so my opinion isn't that important
Would hate to see the crossroads change a lot which it would due to higher rents. Crossroads is great for the arts and I think a lot of that would be lost |
Quote:
FTR, I have not lived in KC since 1989, so I literally do not how developed, under developed the area is anymore. I have never been to the Sprint Center and likewise, know nothing of it as well. So I was asking a question! |
Love the location. going to be a great addition to KC.

Wish home plate was facing downtown like most new MLB ballparks do, other than that stadium looks absolutely beautiful.

According to the Miami Herald the Marlins attempted to trade for Bobby Witt Jr before his contract extension they were offering a package with the centerpiece being Eury Perez.

Trade news: The Kansas City Royals are acquiring right-handed reliever John Schreiber from the Boston Red Sox for minor league right-hander David Sandlin, sources tell ESPN. More bullpen help can't hurt.
|
We're now in a world where the Red Sox are dumping off guys to the Royals for prospects. Red Sox fans online are pretty bummed about this one. They have 3 years of control on Schreiber too so it's not just a short term move.
If they want to be great I think it's still guys McArthur and McMillon bringing the heat and getting some solid performances out of these vets like Schreiber, Stratton, Nick Anderson, etc. |
