PFF, couple of trades. Would not hate this. Finally have a bendy DE alongside traditional Spags requirement depth with McGuire. Brooks as versatile pass rush depth across the line. Martin as the run stuffer. DL is practically rebuilt and cheap. Morris is the developmental OT you hope makes it. We've got more depth and competition at safety and CB, probably overkill but sod it. Lastly we have WR depth with a small gadget guy and a big body in Tillman. Mitchell completes the weapons bonanza as a possible McKinnon replacement who might transition to WR.
I miss the chance to take a TE, which I might regret, and I've overloaded in some positions so may end up with good players on the PS, but I can live with it. I've chosen to punt longer term issues like LB and IOL down the line. 36. Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE 66. Nathaniel Dell, WR 77. Cedric Tillmam, WR 95. Wanya Morris, OT 105. Isaiah McGuire, DE 122. Man PFN has really turned up the trade temptation as it gets closer lol. I've been offered Aiyuik, Kmet and Mekai Becton. All were tempting with the trades offered.

Just a 4-rounder
1.31 Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama. Maybe, as things shake out, one of the few guys worthy of a round 1 pick in this draft? 2.63 Keanu Benton, DT, Wisconsin. We've talked about him a lot. Nice pick for 2023 and the future. 3.82 Blake Freeland, OT, BYU. Last of this tier, I moved up to make sure I got one. Instant competiton at RT. 4.122 DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Texas. Yes, the Chiefs' LB corps is stacked, but Overshown is a nice long-term prospect at coverage backer (and gives you insurance there if you decide you can't rightly pay Gay or Tranquill). stopped there. But I see the value of this, especially if you're using Gibbs more like Deebo Samuel... |

Not a terrible effort. My thought is that Veach doesn't ever hesitate to pay the third and fourth to take a shot at a premium edge rusher. We have arguably more picks than roster spots, so it makes sense to move up at some point. I think pfns board really falls apart after the third round.
Reciever value wasn't there in the second and the premium athlete at guard to plan for Thuneys departure. |
Guys, please realize that when you pull the trigger on Mauch , you’re pulling the trigger on an NFL G, not a T. At least for Heck/Reid.
|

No trades; addressed major needs.
The more of these I do, the more I think we just smash the DLine early. |
Quote:
In the bottom of the second, you can't turn down the value if he's there. It enables you to get him up to speed this year, since he's coming from am fcs program, and you have a potential Perennial pro bowler to replace Thuney next year, enabling you to trade him or cut him to save about 9.5m against the cap in 24 and 22.6 against the cap in 25. Trading Thuney next year with two years of cheap control probably gets you a decent little draft return as well - at least a second I would think. |
*** 2023 Draft Simulator Mocks ***

You aren't the only one who has mocked him, but I didn't see your narrative at first. I would have strong reservations about taking a G prospect to sit a year (and likely two, as I don't think a Thuney trade would really materialize) with that pick. Trade out if there isn't a guy you love there, just don't take it on a depth guy at a non-premium position who doesn't project to contribute until 1/2 through his rookie contract. |
Not even really counting those last two picks based on me not thinking that they'd be there.

Here's my last mock of the cycle, completed on the ESPN simulator (which seems to have the best board right now).
1.31 Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame. Mayer slipped a little, the T I liked at this spot were gone, as were WR, and RB. So I nabbed Mayer with the plan of drastically ramping up the amount of 12 set I play in 23 and forward. This lets me use Kelce in the big slot role basically exclusively, while adding a nice playmaker long-term for Mahomes. 2.50 Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan. I made teh Mayer pick planning to move up into the middle of the 2nd for a DL player, and when Smith slipped, he became the pick. To facilitate, I sent 63, 134, and a 2024 3rd to Tampa for 50 and a 2024 5th. 3.84 Blake Freeland, OT, BYU. I wanted to add competition and versatility to the OL, and chose to move up to get Freeland and accomplish that. It cost me 95, 178, and a 2024 4th, though I again received a 2024 5th back. Odds are good one of those 5ths I've netted will be within 10 picks of the 4th I just surrendered. 4.122 Robert Beal, Jr, DE, Georgia. I reached a bit here for Beal, but I think he has a lot more in the tank after being relegated to a rotation in a deep and talented Georgia front. The Frank Clark comparisons make sense to me, and I could see him drastically outplaying this draft slot. 5.166 DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Texas. He has become one of my favorites in the middle rounds. ST guy in 23 with the ability to slide into a pass defending-LB role in 24 if both Tranquill and Gay price themselves out. 6217 Ronnie Bell, WR, Michigan. I finally return to the pass catchers and add an oft-injured but speedy and shift opton on offense. 7.249 Holton Ahlers, QB, Eastern Carolina. WIth back-to-back 7ths and no DBs I like really available, I swung on Ahlers, who could be a cheap long-term backup solution for Mahomes. 7.250 Dee Winters, LB, TCU. He's fast and fearless, if undersized. Seems like a good ST contributor, if nothing else. I would have really liked to squeeze in a DB somewhere in here (probably in place of one of the LB) but just never had someone in smart range that I actually liked and thought fit what KC does. Post draft depth: QB Mahomes/Gabbert (Ahlers to PS) RB Pacheco/Edwards-Helaire/FA FB ONLY RYAN TRACY AND ANDY REID CARE WR Toney/Valdes-Scantling/Moore/James/Watson/Bell TE Kelce/Mayer/Gray/Fortson OT Taylor/Niang/Freeland/Tano-Wanogho OG Thuney/Smith/Kinnard C Humphrey/FA DE Karlaftis/Omenihu/Danna/Beal/Vet FA DT Jones/Smith/Nnadi/Wharton LB Bolton/Tranquill/Gay/Chenal/Overshown/(Winters to PS) CB Sneed/McDuffie/Williams/Watson/ (this is where I'd like to slot in a DB instead of Winters in my draft or a FA) S Reid/Cook/Mike Edwards/Bush K Butker P Townsend LS Winchester By my count, that's 49 spots. I'd expect a few more DBs and WRs to flesh out the ST units. I'd feel really good about this squad. |

Obviously the Raiders game has prompted me to lose my mind and go mad on the simulators. This might be my most mad as I went for the numbers game. I'm assuming we let Jones, Reid and maybe Sneed walk, bring in a high-ish level WR and Tyron Smith at LT for a fair whack. So we need weapons. I went for trading down with a million licos, not sure it's something I'd want us to do but fun to get a haul of players.
42. Adonai Mitchell - WR 57. Ja'Tavion Sanders - TE 72. Ricky Pearsall - WR 74. Christian Haynes - G - could redshirt but we need to plan ahead and I like rotating him in next year 89. Tory Horton - WR - starting to lose my mind here. 3 WRs? Probably too much but I'm not seeing reason. 103. Marshawn Kneeland - DE - I reluctantly switch to defense in a panic about Jones going and the DEs not stepping up. 108. Maason Smith - DT - Again, feel like I should plug some gaps 125 - A J Barner - TE - to help with the inevitable awful run blocking, but looks like he could turn into more. A big upgrade on Bell 163 - Javin Foster - OT - Not a big fan of these developmental OTs we've been taking but it's low risk high reward at risk point. 173 - Cade Stover - TE - Better Noah Gray. Back to completely over-compensating for the current s***show. Do we carry 5 TEs? Probably not. Do I care? Nope. All the weapons. 175. Frank Gore Jr - RB - don't like him much but I felt compelled to add a RB 203. Darius Mausau - LB - coverage LB we could do with, good value this late 246. Gabe Hall - DI - competition/fodder. Anyhting to push out Nnadi. Completely ridiculous I know. |

Just did my first draft of the year with PFN. I didn't do any trades on the first try.
1) OT - Tyler Guyton - Oklahoma 2) WR - Ja'Lynn Polk - Washington 3) TE - Cade Stover - Ohio State 4) CB - Khyree Jackson - Oregon 5) DT/DE - Justin Eboigbe - Alabama 7) RB - Frank Gore Jr. - Southern Miss I wanted to avoid the conventional approach of taking a WR in the first. So, I went with securing our future LT in the first. Ja'Lynn Polk feels like a natural fit in the offense and gives us another fluid big bodied receiver to pair with Rice. I wanted to go with someone on the defensive side of the ball in the third, but didn't see anyone I liked...so I went with a receiving TE in Stover. Khyree Jackson feels like the big physical corners we take and turn into top talent. Eboigbe feels like a guy that could fill the Omenihu role in the long run. Frank Gore Jr. fits into the Jerrick McKinnon spot on the roster |

Ran the PFF mock twice and both times it had Brock Biwers to Tampa Bay at 26.
If he dropped near that range I could definitely see Veach getting hot on the phone to cook up a trade up. |

I agree though most tail off after R1. I think as maligned as PFF is it has the best in that you really can't steal any consensus picks early. I'd say their biggest quirk right now is you can get Roman Wilson end of R2, which seems unlikely to me. |
