We drafted a two down LB in the second round. Awful

As a former MLB, my thought is always more LBs, more better. But this told me all I need to know--Meets runners with violent collisions in the hole. Strikes like he's trying to send a message. Oldman approves this pick.

I know some of the measureables aren't what people are hoping for, but if you've watched any amount of Mizzou football over the last couple years, you'd know this guy is everywhere on the field. I love the pick.
|
When did we get to a point where 4.6 is considered "slow" for a LB? Especially one that can hit? Wtf?

What, if anything, does Niemann do well? Oh, I forgot-- he had that big hit on Garapalo 16 months ago. |

all reports on the guy are that he's really, really smart, and really instinctive.
He's going to take Wilsons' snaps and a lot of Niemann's snaps, and probably is Hitchens eventual replacement. |
Wonder if he can sing anything like his dad Michael?

Love and miss you guys, just not a fan of the pick.
I love the Humphrey pick though. Gonna be our OC for the next 10 years. Hope you guys have lots of sex tonight xoxo |
Remember when everyone shitted on the Sneed and Danna picks last year. Look how those turned out
|
I don't pretend to know who will work out. I didn't shit on Sneed and Danna but I did shit on Rashad Fenton and he turned out okay.
I hope this guy proves me wrong but he seems slow, small and a concussion waiting to happen and also I don't know how long it's going to take to get him playing. I guess I just thought we had more pressing needs but Veach knows better than I do |
CAmp fodder
|
LOL at “drag down tackler.”

He's small, and slow, and an arm tackler, and bad in coverage, but most scouts and mocks had him going late in the first round.
Got it. |

I don’t think Bolton was too 30 personally, but he was definitely top 50. |
Quote:
I wouldn't have been a fan at #31, because I felt we had bigger fish to fry. But you just really can't argue with getting a consensus late first/early second player at a position of need at #58. I mean that's real good value. And I think he's probably Hitchens' replacement in 2022 as well. He's just rill good at football. |

I wonder if Veach can get anything for Allegretti and Wylie? I mean he did turn Parker Ehinger into Ward.

Quite frankly, if that's the plan, it's a very good one. Everybody knows I'm not high on drafting LB's high but it's still all about value. We got a guy that had value in the 30-35th pick range at 58. That's a tremendous get, regardless of position. And no I don't think Bolton is a jump-off-the-page athlete. But the simple fact is that the kid is a very good all-around LB. He doesn't have a ton of weakness, he's not one-dimensional. Freakish athleticism is all well and good on the outside but in many ways, you want your MLB to quick, smart, and fearless. I think that's what Bolton brings. |
Quote:
We got a guy at 58 that probably should have gone about 25 picks higher. That's a tremendous amount of value, much more than you gave up taking a LB over say, a DE. In the end, Bolton was a high value pick and he'll be even more so once Hitchens and his salary are gone. |
Quote:
He's not going to Dorian O'Daniel on you. He's smart, and instinctive. He's not going to suck. |

If he brings that to the pro level, it will serve him well as a run stopper, as well as sweeps, screens and quick slants. |

The kid just really doesn't have any serious flaws. |
Quote:
This kid has an incredibly high football IQ and a nose for the ball. He's not some dumbass who makes the roster by just happening to be a high level athlete. He's the exact kind of linebacker you want to be your QB of the defense. Smart, Physical and Tough. It's a bit of an old school pick but quite frankly our defense could use some old school toughness. |
After reading up on him how did he last till 58? He seems like an awesome player and someone who can play all 3 downs
|
Quote:
As far as value goes, we really could not have done any better. |
Bolton reminds me of Demario Davis. That's a good thing.
|
People get too caught up on combine numbers. The combine for the most part doesn't matter. He's going to bring more nastiness to the D and I love it. Can't wait to see him crush a few RBs.
|
Yeah the athleticism is definitely over blown. He has better measurable than Lavonte David who is still kicking ass at 31. The Willie Gay’s of the world are so rare. And those that have Gay’s athleticism with more and better film just aren’t going to make it to where we pick. See Jamin Davis
|
anyone think Bolton could simply take Niemann’s role this year?
He’s clearly really smart and more athletic, physical than Niemann. Why not? I think that’d be a great role for his rookie year if they don’t trust Gay to call the defense out of the dime. |
I’ll tell ya, I’m REALLY tired of the analytics horseshit regarding the LB position being devalued..
Easiest way to make it clear you don’t understand football. Linebackers have to play both run and pass unlike any other player out there on defense. Just think of the great defenses of the past 15-20 years and how many of them included incredible linebackers. Just something that grinds my gears from some Chiefs analysts. |
Quote:
But yes I completely agree with you |
And I'm really high on this kid
|
Quote:
It’s not like Niemann really does anything all that well. He’s bad at just about everything. Even if Bolton struggles a bit at first, is that any worse than Niemann? |
Quote:
Even if Bolton or Gay have their own flaws, don’t they have to be better than Niemann at this point for the dime? Gay should know the defense better and Bolton will catch on quick. |
Well, I do love the attitude and I’ve always enjoyed hard hits. I hope when we look back he warrants the pick, even though my socks weren’t knocked off initially.
|
His straight line speed is adequate. You want your backers to have 4.6 or lower speed. He’s good there.
It’s the 3 cone and 20 yard shuttle that are worrisome. Does he have stiff hips? Because Ragland, Hitchens and Wilson all had better times. And yes we say that doesn’t matter until we bitch about these missing tackles in the flat like Hitchens vs the Patriots a few years ago (dear God) bc of stiff hips. I still trust this pick but it’s okay to have questions. |
Oh and this guy ****ing better put Neimann’s ass on the bench. We drafted 2 LB’s in the 2nd rd and paid Hitchens.
Zero reason that disaster should be out there unless it’s ST’s |
Quote:
I don't see how he tested 'slow'. It looks like he's moving at an entirely different speed than everyone around him, and a lot of that tape is against top flight talent. Now maybe that's just superior football diagnosis on his part that allows him to 'play fast', but damn. I see no reason why we see Niemann on anything but special teams other than injury. |

Positives. Eventual cheap Hitchens replacement.
Negatives. Instincts. |

I’d be curious to see this with Bolton as well. |
Quote:
He smells out plays behind the LOS. That's instincts. |
[QUOTE=In58men;15656706]Do people not understand that you can train yourself to run faster?[/QUO. Some players play faster with pads than others, I think that could be part of it.
|
Quote:
The best thing for him is to attack and Spags system depends less on reading than some others. But he is not ideal for instincts as a mike in the NFL. He's not Devin Bush. |

You had best un**** yourself and get with the team <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KMEViYvojtY" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Quote:
Where the hell did you hear that? Every report is that he has excellent instincts. His tape shows that he diagnoses and blows up plays all over the field. WRONG. |
