I love the look on her face after the sink. I get that look from my wife all the time.

I use to have a really cool picture of my son and a lion at the Sedgwick County Zoo. They were starring at each other through the glass. It was one of the things my sons mom thought she needed to destroy when she ****ed up my house.

This is another one of my favorite photographs. We were in Chicago a few years ago and rented a condo on VRBO. A great location on the 30th floor overlooking Grant Park and Michigan Ave (first photo). After a thunderstorm rolled through, there was a really cool sunset and it was reflected in the building next to us.

eDave 04-10-2020 04:55 PM

People love to hate on Chicago but it's a great town to visit. Nice pics Dartgod. I've stayed at that red (with tan top) hotel while attending Lallapalooza. I've stayed at that hotel in the middle (red/tan top) while attending Lallapalooza. Same weekend I was turned onto the magnificense of My Morning Jacket (twilight slot).

I was stationed at Ft. Gordon close to 30 years ago when you could still walk up and buy a ticket to the practice rounds. Not a golfer but this country boy was amazed that EVERY INCH of that course was manicured. There were even rake marks in the bottom of the ravines between the holes.

I was very drunk, because I remember my wife had to drive home, which normally never happens. We were all air traffic controllers except for the girl on the right, she was a pilot and a date of the guy next to her. The girl I had my arm around was a controller and that was her husband next to me, it wasn't like I was behind his back. I really have no memory of any of that, I only know about it because of the photo.

The guy on the right, he had a good looking date, she was a pilot, she use to do a bank run picking up checks along the panhandle of Florida. His name was Doug McLean, before he was a controller he was a Miami school teacher. He wasn't a very good controller, he cared more about how he sounded than what he did. Overall, Doug was a pretty good guy, one of the few bachelors we had at the facility out of 57 controllers at the time.

Out of the 57, there were 46 of us fired by Reagan in the strike of '81.

I was going to ask if you survived Reagan's firing of the illegal strike by the controllers. I thought better not the right subforum. My Dad worked for TWA was a lifelong Democrat but supported and voted Reagan. That firing ended his support.

Thanks for your father. There were 11,345 fired. We had union hall and for a couple of weeks we would go there, we had a Pilot come everyday. He was on vacation with his family at Pensacola Beach. He said, I walked the picket line with my wife, she was a stewardess, I'm here to support you guys I can't enjoy myself at the beach with this going on. Then he would call the pilot reporting hotline everyday, and they were reporting close calls everywhere. We thought we would win. After two weeks we got permission to picket and we went to the airport for a while and did that. That was almost 40 years ago, water under the bridge.

Takedown Recurve I built for a co-worker way back when. This was in about midway to completion after the lamination and curing it in the homemade laminating oven. Stressing and rough tillering limbs. The string is a homemade flemish twist string. He wanted the limbs 60 lb at his draw weight of 29 inches it finished off at 61lbs. The handle riser is Bubinga walnut and maple wood and laminated with hyde glue his preference combo. The handle was rough cut then drum sanded till it fit his prefered grip side and shape. It did finish pretty nice and he shoots it still to this day. Still looking for Finish photos.

We finally got out of the house yesterday for a road trip to Ledges State Park in Iowa. It's a very cool place, and if you drive down Canyon Road there you cross the creek 4 or 5 times along the way.

https://i.imgur.com/7tqaTpV.jpg

Also, a couple years back Iowanian talked about the "Freedom Rocks" in Iowa.

https://www.thefreedomrock.com/iowa-fr-tour/

Since then I've visited and photographed around a couple dozen of them, but somehow the original Freedom Rock, just outside of Des Moines, eluded me. First time I tried to visit it, it was just before Memorial Day and the guy who does them apparently repaints it every year for the holiday and when I arrived at it, it was plain white....

Next attempt was last summer, and it turns out the bridge 1/4 mile before it was being replaced. Undaunted, I tried several other routes to get to it but gave up after about 45 min because it was getting dark.

Yesterday, on the 3rd attempt, I finally saw it and was awed by it. Just amazing this guy can do this type of work on such an uneven surface. This one is also about twice as large as any of the others.

https://i.imgur.com/IHNYFi3.jpg

And lastly, 'cause I love me some bridge pics, a couple of the Kate Shelley High Bridge outside of Boone, IA.

I am always amazed by those old bridges still in use. Those rivets were amazing for their day.

Bugeater 05-10-2020 11:31 PM

Actually that bridge isn't currently in use, its replacement is right next to it. There has to be a reason it was left there, not sure what that reason would be because I don't see it being repurposed like the nearby High Trestle Bridge since railroads aren't too keen on recreational trails in close proximity to busy lines.

Yeah I could see the new bridge next to it and those concrete piers wont last near as long as the old iron rivet bridge.

In KC many RR bridges just like it take rail cars over Missouri River still. The old ASB bridge still handles rail they removed the public transportation Deck over top the rails back in the 80 and built the Heart Of America Bride right next to it.

Working (as much as possible) from PA and found this little gem I purchased on eBay many moons ago in the attic. I'm guessing it's cast iron because it has some weight to it for it's size.

Poked around on the web and couldn't find a duplicate. Might have appreciated in worth.

It's a shitty pic, I know.

When I worked as a controller at St. Petersburg Clearwater Airport from '73 to '77 we had an airshow in '76. We had Bede Jets, Pitts Specials, but the stars of the show was the Blue Angels. Here a photo of them in formation taken from the control tower as they make a low pass.

https://scontent-mia3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...fe&oe=5EFC09CC

We had an aircraft display on the ramp with the old terminal and control tower in the background. That tower has been demolished and replaced a new taller freestanding tower further south. Also the terminal has been enhanced and modernized.

My new happy place! Both shots taken the same day. The first one was taken in the morning on the very first day I moved in. I went and sat on the dock with my coffee and soaked it in. The second was taken that evening out the kitchen window while cleaning up after dinner.

Random picture that I took in a museum a few years ago. I thought it was fun.

That's pretty cool. What museum were you at?

Confession: those were at different museums. The first one was the High Museum in Atlanta. The second one was the Broad Museum in Los Angeles.

Makes me remember it's been way too long since I've been camping:

My apologies. Here's a picture of Patrick Mahomes II to make up for it.
