It's definitely a woman, played by Emily Swallow. And yes she's supposed to be the leader, one article I saw listed the character as a blacksmith chieftain.
|
Holy shit. Just finished episode 3 and I’m loving this so far.
Honestly, I was pretty burned out on Star Wars before this. This is great. A lot of love and care went into this and it shows. More please! |
Based on Dane's advice with the timing, I'll probably bite the Disney bullet and subscribe today, so I can watch it all in a single month and then jettison.

It’s basically $7 to watch Mandalorian. |
Chapter 4 just dropped.
Another solid outing, even though the plot was an old sci-fi western trope done many times over. Would like to see more Gina Carano. Noticed episode was directed by Bryce Dallas Howard. She did a good job. |
So is Pedro Pascal never going to show his face the entire series? That’s pretty incredible.
|
Hire top-notch actor, never see his face.........

Watched the first three last night. Loved it.

Just finished the fourth one. Love it. Agreed, needs more Gina Carano. Everything needs more Gina Carano!

Rewatching these with the wife now. She's hooked as well.

Really ****ing good. Best realization of an AT-ST ever in Star Wars.
Favreau knows how to take established Star Wars imagery and make it interesting again. That episode borrowed heavily from Return of the Jedi but it never felt stale. I have a gut feeling Nick Nolte and Gina Carano are going to end up on Mando's crew by the end of the season. This show kicks ass.
Spoiler!

That episode was straight out of the Clone Wars animated series. Enjoying the series.

Really enjoying this show. Wish each episode was a bit longer but it works.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian
I really thought that

I’m not sure if he’s partially CGI or not, but I love how baby Yoda is made to look like a puppet. Like in the old movies.
The same with using real masks and makeup for alien characters instead of CGI. |

These episodes just keep getting better and better. And I’ll say that I really appreciate that, at least up to this point, they are not taking time with a lot of back story with the main character or in general explaining how we are at the point where we currently are in the story. That typically seems to be a slow down point for most series. If you want to do that do so in a short amount of time at the very beginning of the very first episode and be done with it. Otherwise treat your audience as if they know what is going on. They either already know or don’t. And those that don’t will either take the time and effort to go learn or decide to walk away in confusion. And contrary to conventional wisdom, there is nothing wrong with that second option. When something attempts to cater to everyone is when it gets bogged down and watered down. Hopefully this series avoids that and just continues to give little tidbits about the main character’s back story. If you want to do an origin story than do one, otherwise let’s get the hell on with the current plot.

Outside all of the impressive music recognition going on in this thread, I have to curse Baby Lee for getting Cake's "Going the Distance" stuck in my head. Shit. Well, off to listen to some Rammstein.

I have nothing significant to add regarding The Mandalorian, but I will remind everyone that Brittany Murphy was a hot little biscuit and her early passing is entirely unfortunate. |
Probably the weakest episode yet(still had fun with it), but it felt decidedly lower budget, almost like an episode of Xena Warrior Princess.
|
Never been huge into Star Wars, but I'm thoroughly enjoying this one.
|
Got the wife watching now. They've put themselves in an interesting position with Baby Yoda. You can't kill him off or people will riot, and I think the only way to separate them is to do it for the season finale so you go into next season with people understanding it's the Mandalorian, not the Baby Yoda Star Wars show. I'll keep watching regardless of what they do, but playing the Last Of Us card with grizzled combatant having to care for someone all of a sudden that goes against everything they stand for, always plays well to audiences. I know I eat that shit up.

Yoda also said they may have misinterpreted the prophecy, so "Yoda Baby" could be another child spawned by the Force in a paradox that created 2 polar opposite chosen that follow different paths of destiny |

The show wasn't filmed "a long time ago". Most of the series was filmed in 2018 with some filming spilling into 2019. Season 2 began ramping up in September 2019 but was written earlier this year. Lucasfilm intentionally kept "Baby Yoda" a secret by not creating any merchandising that would give away his existence and the premise of The Mandalorion. That said, "Baby Yoda" merchandising is set to ship soon. |
They knew exactly what they had with baby yoda. Keeping that character secret was specifically why they didn't send out screeners for the pilot. They knew they had a hit show so **** reviews and they knew they had a holiday toy bonanza as soon as the character hit screens.

So the stuff you can buy right now looks like the kind of quality you find on any random web site that will print random images on whatever style shirt you want. But towards the bottom they have some “real” merchandise that you can preorder. |

Star Wars: The Mandalorian
Quote:
I posted that a couple days ago when it was preorder so I’m surprised it’s still only preorder for the real merchandise. If your thinking about gifts I wonder how many people would rely on those given it’s no guarantee when you will get them. I just checked on the stuffed toy and it says they expect it to be ready in April. Very odd for them to not have these ready to go for Christmas. |
So Jerri Blank took Vo-Tech?

Oh, and if you were wondering where that double-crossing Guild aspirant got his Guido charm. . . . That's Bobby Cannavale's son.

HOLY SHIT that opening space battle was pure ****ing boba fett

THE CANTINA

My only quibble, and it's minor and simply based on the laws of series guest stars, as soon as Fennic was shown to be played by Ming-Na, you knew the episode would return to the desert to show she wasn't actually dead.
Kind of like when the major star is interviewed and 'ruled out' as a suspect early in an episode on Law and Order. |
Cool episode. Damn, I love this show.
|
Yeah, Chapter 6 was the best entry so far, IMO.
It was great to see Clancy Brown in the Star Wars Galaxy again but I’d really like to see him as a Dark Side user or a Sith Lord. |

Disney could have spent more money and fleshed out the story in the episodes, made the episodes longer. |
Quote:
Love all the practical makeup stuff. |

Disney spent $15 million per episode on The Mandalorian Season 1 and from my understanding, they're spending $20 million per episode on Season 2. Quote:
Quote:
I may be in the minority but so far, I haven't felt like the episodes needed to be longer in order to tell each story. Longer episodes for the sole purpose of longer episodes doesn't make much sense unless the story or narrative calls for additional time. I'd prefer more "Chapters" as opposed to longer episodes. 12-15 Chapters per season clocking in at 35-40 minutes would be ideal, IMO. Maybe they'll get there at some point. |
Quote:
Agree. They obviously made the decision to not go for a deeper narrative. It works for this series. |
Quote:
It’s getting better with each episode. They are hitting almost every note to give the fans some Star Wars universe stories they actually care about. Now, get me my god damn Darth Vader movie. |
Quote:
This is their general M.O. when it comes to new characters and new Star Wars series so while it can be frustrating at times, the payoff should be really good. That said, I don't expect the same from the Obi Wan series nor the Rogue One series as the audience is far more familiar with the characters and their backstories. Quote:
Quote:
But there is another rumor floating out there about an additional series set during that same period, featuring Dr. Aphra, who's a Marvel/Star Wars comic creation (who happens to be a lesbian) that works for Vader. That might be the closest we get for a while, even if it's true. |
Longer episodes lose younger viewers. We may feel like this is for 'us' but in reality this is the live action equivalent of Clone Wars or Rebels.
|
I don’t mind if they decide to get rid of baby Yoda in season 2. I like the baby Yoda but I’m not married to it as a plot point. They want to drop baby Yoda off on the Planet he’s going to be raised on, find and dandy with me. Season 2 moves on.
Disney already has a bunch of pissed off Star Wars fans. Not having baby Yoda in season 2 would be like not having the Fonz back for season 2 on Happy Days. Baby Yoda is THE breakout star they need. Disney makes mistakes but they ain’t stupid. |
This show is basically about nothing thus far. I'm wondering what the overal plot is moving toward..?
|
Yeah I'm a huge star wars fan and really like this series so far but it's all just get a bounty, complete bounty move onto the next one

Really liked episode 6. Am enjoying the more episodic nature of the show and would be just fine with the adventures of Mando and Baby Yoda for a while yet.
|
Starting to get bored with it. For such a short season the plot is going nowhere.
|
The whole pacifist Mandalorian angle they're working right now came off kinda weird in that last episode.
