Veach either 1- Ate up most of the Chiefs' cap space (roughly around 26 m) with two signings (reported 25 m AAV) or 2- pushed a huge amount of money to the next two years for two guys, and is still likely paying 2/3 AAV this year (roughly 17 m). With such a huge chunk going to a WR and alot of worries still on D that you can't necessarily rely on 3rd round picks to fix, there is some room for concern. |

Do we have any money left now?
|
Yet the cap will go up again next year, the Chiefs also have several more guys who will either be cut this year or next year..
The money is there. |
You always have to wait until the full details of the contracts come out before you get too happy or too upset about the "reported" money.
4 months ago people were complaining about Dorsey's cap managment screwing KC. Lo and behold you cut/release/trade a handful of over the hill veterans and wallah - money to compete with high priced FA's. |

If Veach can get a quality CB, another OLB, a LG, and some DL talent either with the draft or remaining FAs, I may nominate him for Exec of the Week, sponsored by Hy-Vee. Until then, I'm concerned we may have the 99 Rams O, but the 03 Chefs D. It doesn't matter if you put up 70 points if the other team puts up 71.

He was in BUFFALO. That doesnt even count. Reggio Ragland couldn't tie his shoes correctly in Buffalo. That Twitter thread where the dude broke down Watkins' routes and Goff damn near always missing him...Watkins' would've been a 1kyd WR last year, if his QB had been more Mahomes like. |
Just to make me feel better, I'm going to say that we just traded Marcus Peters and a 6th to the Rams for a 2018 4th, a 2019 2nd, and Sammy Watkins (who we just signed to an extension) :D

It's also the right thing to do, if you want your QB to develop you give him guys to work with.

In my lifetime this is now the most talent I've ever seen on a KC offense.
TWO big play WR's, big play TE, a top 5 HB, and most importantly a ****ing cannon at the QB position... |

Sutton be like WTF?
Obviously Watkins is a move intended to boost stagnant season ticket sales. It will be short lived when the defense gets walked on up and down the field. |
Andy only needs one play call now

Um the defense isn't THAT bad, the Chiefs win 12 games and a playoff game had Alex Smith not shit his pants in crunch time repeatedly.

Teams will beg Hunt to run the ball next year... |

Sutton isn't changing shit, and Andy isn't going to cap his pawpaw. So, you just score enough on offense to keep the other team from running the ball. |

Todays league is really the opposite of that. |

Teicher gave the signing a C+. If that's not enough to get you excited about Sammy Watkins, then consider that maybe we can do without a punter this season.

<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Did a WR just choose the Chiefs because of their QB? When was the last time that happened? |
Lol Watkins chose KC purely because of the money. You're not going to convince me that he chose them because of Mahomes at all.

Players want two things: 1) to win and 2) $$$. Not necessarily in that order. KC clearly plans to air it out this year. Big production usually means big $$$... |

Now, we need to spend the next two years free agent money and draft picks getting a defense to match our offense. Chief fans, we may actually have a chance to see a Super Bowl win on our lifetimes. |
Veach is KILLING it this offseason.
He transformed a salary cap mess from John Dorsey into nearly $30 million in salary cap space... got a talented young CB + draft picks back for Alex Smith and now is aggressively landing free agents (something the Chiefs NEVER could do under Dictator Carl/Fat Scott/Dorsey). I don't blame Veach for the Marcus Peters situation (I think he did the best he could with a situation that was beyond his control, a situation I still believe was dictated partially by Clark Hunt), but as of now (and obviously we'll see what happens in the draft) Veach has put together an offseason masterpiece thus far. |

@TerezPaylor Hearing from multiple folks around the league who are intrigued by what the Chiefs are building on offense with Pat, Kareem, Kelce, Ty and Sammy. "So nasty," one person said.

And we don't have to fix our D overnight. I want to be real excited about this teams potential, but let's be realistic. This is mahomes' first season and he's going to make mistakes. |

Teams want to stack 8 in the box to stop Hunt? Watch Mahomes rip you apart downfield. Teams want to double team Kelce? No problem, watch Hill/Watkins shred your single coverage downfield. Having a QB who will both look to go downfield and be able to convert on downfield passing opportunities consistently and having multiple WR threats downfield will be epic. Free at last from the Alex Smith Iron Curtain of Bubble Screens. |

We may not need OLB all that much.
Ya'll wanted to see Houston rush the passer. Score a billion points and let Houston pin his ears back because every down will be a passing down it sounds like |
