I am not a fan of sitting starters unless they have a injury and could use the time to heal.

Again we’re back to the lense you view it thru I guess.

Why is the NFL different?

Hard cap. Completely even revenue sharing. It's the most balanced league around. So yes, my expectations are different for the Chiefs than for Mizzou or the Royals, because those teams aren't working from a completely even deck like the Chiefs are.

There's also the matter of the Chiefs spending 30 years trying to same tired, failed approach at QB, and never deviating from it until this past spring. In light of the past 25 years, it's hard to get excited about a division title and being sent home before the conference championship game, which is your general lot in the NFL, even if you make the playoffs, unless you're daring to be great at QB.

Right. Alex Smith doesn't suck as bad as Tyler Palko, so we should be happy, right?

After so long, it became boring, predictable, and not good enough.

The start to this season was amazing and we hoped Alex had changed his stripes.... and then the Steelers, Buffalo, Giants, Jets, etc games happened where Alex looked asshole.

It's time for him to prove it in the Playoffs.

I was never fine with him. I was pretty damn sure that he wasn't going to elevate his play, that he'd just be another caretaker QB who needed everything done perfectly by the rest of his team to have any success against elite teams. He's done nothing but prove that out.

A brief flash of that elite-capable play popped up here and there, but never came to stay. Maybe he'll go on one of those "hot" streaks in the playoffs this year, but there's dozens of games and more than a half decade of past performance that suggest he won't.

Poor Chiefs martyrs.

That's what we've been getting with Smith. I've NEVER been confident in any Chiefs playoff game of the Smith/Reid era. Not even last year. I've predicted Chiefs losses in every single playoff game except for Houston not because of superstition, but because I look at the opposing team and then I look at our QB. And I think, "Our QB is a dick-sucking coward. Their QB is not. We're going to lose."

That's no way to live as a fan.

Pretty much me.

You can choose to be Charlie Brown and keep sprinting at Lucy's football.

Or, you can go to watch parties, hang out with friends, watch casually, and have no expectation for a win, and no heartburn when it's an L.

If Mahomes is as good as I believe he'll be, that will change. But that's in the future (or if he looks great today and somehow ends up in the playoff game).

It was typical Alex Smith. Teases you with great play, and then follows it up with a load of shit.

Except in that example it was split into halves instead of games.

Sorry, dude. I don't get my rocks off anymore by beating the Bengals at home where we only put up a field goal in the entire second half, we score a special teams TD, and our defense hangs on to win by a score of 24-20.

Those are the games where Alex plays it safe. Playing safe in the playoffs makes you lose.

It's a shitty ****ing attitude to have as a QB, and pretty awful to watch as a fan. It's the kind of attitude that says, "I did what I had to do to win the game, and we did. On to next week! Woo hoo!"

And that's bullshit. That's how you lose to Pittsburgh without allowing the Steelers a single TD.

Besides, other parts of the team are never fully responsible are they? QB's have lost every single playoff game all by themselves. Four TD lead lost? QB's fault. RB fumbles, or gets hurt? QB's fault.

By your logic, because Aaron Rodgers and Russel Wilson are so brave, they should be winning EVERY YEAR.

At some point, alex needed to carry them a little. I realize he’s not that guy and can’t, but that’s also why they’re moving on.

Alex is dependent on the guys around him. It is what it is. I appreciate what he’s brought here, but I don’t think it’s wrong to be dissatisfied with the playoff result, which some put on the qb.

Per usual, it’s not black and white

Also this. Although I would say both sides are dissatisfied with losing in the playoffs. The difference is that one side thinks it isn't gonna change without a QB switch and another side disagrees. Then there are those in the middle.

Yeah and the truth of it is it’s all of it.

Yep. Brady isn't winning a SB with the Browns. You need your QB to step up in the playoffs and be one of your best players more often than not. AFC representative shows it every year. Ravens don't win the SB if Flacco doesn't play the best stretch of his life, even as good as they were(and the most hilarious comeback against Denver).

Things are never as black and white as people want it to be. Politics, football....life. It is easier to think when it's black and white though.

Since the fatal wounding of the starter...

SHOUT FROM BACK: I think he's getting better!

For ... since the starter ... who ... when he seemed about to recover ... suddenly felt the icy ... hand of death upon him.

SHOUT FROM BACK: Oh, he's died!

I want his true fans, from now onwards, to think of the Browns as their team ... in a very real and legally binding sense.

Cocaine is one helluva drug

Unfortunately, one of them, my troll Tiger, has just fallen to his death.

But I don't want to think I've not lost a troll... so much as gained a QB...

For, since the tragic death of the starter...

SHOUT FROM BACK: He's not quite dead!

Glad the kid is getting protection.
Anyone got the news on the Denver starting lineup?

Curious list :hmmm:

Looks like Kareem Hunt *might* get the rushing title

Spott 12-31-2017 02:01 PM

It would be incredibly stupid to play Kareem Hunt today.

That seems like the wrong move.

Big day for Chiefs fans. A good showing means optimism, a poor showing means a strong source of off-season annoying troll bait.
