When the QB begins his slide you ease up. No different like taking the QB to the ground or hitting him after the ball is out. You don't fall on top of the QB. You don't drive him Into the ground. That defender purposely drove Smith's shoulder and head into the ground.

I agree but if the defender starts the tackle before or simultaneously to the slide, no foul. You cant punish a defender for tackling a ball carrier, especially on a called running play

thabear04 11-02-2016 12:16 PM

Well the Jags are an okay team but Alex needs his rest for the following week against the panthers.

KranzDictum 11-02-2016 12:17 PM

I usually love to see a team in the AFC West switch QB's midseason but Foles is a legit QB who can throw downfield and get the WR's in the game rather than rely on trick 3TE sets and dump offs to the RB who is overworked with no JC behind Ware.

You guys are better with Foles. I was hoping Reid would stick with the guy he traded 2 2nd round picks for. Now teams have to worry about the back half of the field.

raybec 4 11-02-2016 12:18 PM

This thread is the perfect storm of CP dumbshit.

"Alex is a pussy because he won't Steve Gleason himself deliberately"
"Andy will hold Foles back because Alex is his guy"
"Only fantasy football morons care if the offense moves and scores"

Jesus tits there is some dumb ass shit in here.

When QB's take off and are runners they either need to give themselves up way early or expect to get punished like an RB would.

I can't count the times I have seen Alex fake a slide, ok maybe Juke but the juke could be off a slide fake, then pickup even more yards. They either need to run then slide before anyone gets into a 3-5 yard radius or take the hits and stop complaining about it.

The other thing QB's can do to reduce taking hits outside of the pocket is to throw the ball, either throw it away or to a teammate, the Fire, one read than run play is for college.

I think this could be the end for Smith. He seems like the type of player to call it quits if he thinks that his long term health could be in jeopardy.

Absolutely but if you are a defensive team (which we are) you don't need the QB to have out of this world stats to win.

Might want to check out what Peyton's stats were last year in the regular season and playoffs. Did they still win the SB?

I have full confidence in Reid to make the right decision at QB. He knows more about QBs than anyone posting on this board. If Foles is the better QB he will see that and start him. If he isn't, he won't. It's that simple.

So I am not going to worry about who is starting at QB. If you want to go head...

And let me be clear and say that I would love for Foles to tear it up and become the next great KC QB I just don't think he is better than Alex. That's my opinion. I bet half of you acting like he is great have barely even seen him play prior to Sunday.

Hopefully Foles proves me wrong. We will see.

Stats are overrated. The most important stat is wins and losses. Tom Brady has said this numerous times and so has BB.

We won the game.. That's the goal every time any team plays on Sunday. The goal isn't to get nice stats and lose but hey if how many yds we got on offense is all you care about more power to you.

Tom Brady has also been in the top 5 in most stat categories over the past decade or so. Interesting how that correlates...

I still don't think Foles was brought in here to just be a backup. Andy wanted him before he wanted Alex.

I thank Andy wanted him to be Alex's successor

An injury settlement would be a convenient way for the Chiefs to save oodles of cash on Alex's fat contract at this point.

flash_80 11-02-2016 12:32 PM

Foles has a history of being very up and down. He could put up 4 TD's and 400 yards and I'd still want Smith to return. It's not time to replace a QB that is 15-2 in his last 17 starts. The Niners drank the short term success koolaid as well. Would you like to have their situation? I'm sorry, but you can't just go replacing the stability of a winning formula for an unknown like this.

Foles is not going to replace Smith. That was made clear yesterday. Mistake or no mistake, Alex is the starter.

Sannyasi 11-02-2016 12:45 PM

The fact that the Chiefs and Alex were being so quiet about it had me worried... I think this could be a more serious injury than we realize. Or it could just be the Chiefs saying as little as possible to keep future opponents guessing. Who knows really?

You would prefer that over a blowout with Foles throwing 5TDs? :spock: That would possibly mean that Foles is a better QB. Maybe not but it would sure look like it. So you're saying you wouldn't want a possibly better QB because of the controversy? :shake:

To me, the question is not whether Alex is our starter this year. It's whether we would be should remotely consider letting Alex go next year in order to save $5 million with the five-years-younger Foles.

Do you have everyone's posts in some type of data base? Spread sheet? That's pretty impressive that you dedicate yourself enough to know who was defending a guy who's been gone for two years.
