Caldwell/Latimer will pick up the slack. Welker can get his head together for the next month. No big deal.

listopencil 09-04-2014 05:54 PM

I just heard a comment on the pregame coverage about the NFL's drug policy. It's undergoing a change, possibly including a higher (lol) tolerance for MJ and a move of amphetamines from PED to substance abuse. So there is a chance that Welker's suspension gets lifted.

Hammock Parties 09-04-2014 05:55 PM

He'll have more yards in 12 games than any of our WRs get in 16 games.

This is kind of bullshit, imo. The penalty for breaking the rules should be whatever was in place at the time the rules were broken.

I just don't see how the NFL can let a bunch of suspended players back on the field after this Ray Rice fiasco.

This attitude just baffles me, except that it has to just be that none of the players are Chiefs.

Why? It's the way the law works. If they legalize pot, they don't just open the jails and let everyone convicted for dealing pot go. I don't see why this should be different. They broke the "laws" (rules) that were in place at the time so should pay the penalty that was in place at the time. I would feel that way no matter who it was.

I understand your point, but disagree.

I think anyone serving a punishment for a "crime" that is deemed no longer criminal should have their punishment lifted.

If this were his 1st offense or even 1st suspension (as the policy doesn't suspend for 1st offense), but given this as a 3rd offense, even if very low amount on the test, I don't see a full lifting of the suspension. Best case, my guess is reduced to 8 games. Just my own opinion.

I'm also puzzled why welker's suspension is even being brought up. He didn't test positive for pot, why are we even talking about him?

Hear me out on this last one. If they are going to review all 2014 suspensions, most assume it will be under the approach of 'were we too harsh?' However, consider the very fresh Ray Rice fiasco. I could very easily see Greg Hardy getting SMACKED down hard, very very hard!! If they are going to review for possible lightening of suspensions, they should also review for increasing suspensions under the strengthened domestic violence policy.

NFL: we want to test for hgh
NFLPA: we want higher thresholds for other drugs in return and we want it retroactive

Negotiation in process

Is HGH unhealthy over time or does it actually help you construct a healthy body as you use it with a sensible diet and a reasonable workout plan? I don't really fully understand how it works. I'm wondering if it should be on the banned list or not.

Way to step out on a limb, there.

If taken properly and not abused it is very safe. It does not build muscle like roids but does help your body recover and repair much quicker.

Either way, Welker needs to sit... I'm fine with him coming back for week 3, but given the defense, it's likely best that he sits his noggin out of that game too.

He has a four game suspension. I know it is possible Welker could be back sooner but that is only if the NFL was able to get the rule put him changed. That's also contingent on the NFL retroactively shortening his suspension.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- With the terms of a new drug policy now in place, wide receiver Wes Welker returned to the Denver Broncos Friday night and is eligible to play Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs if the team chooses to put him in the lineup, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

This is so stupid. I he wasn't on the Dung-keys, and they weren't trying to gift wrap him a SB he would have to serve his full suspension as he did it before the rule changed. I don't know how a Dung-keys fan can even be proud if they happen to win a SB this year. Oh wait yes I do.... Cuz they're Dung-keys fans!!

mikeyis4dcats. 09-12-2014 08:17 PM

Denver going to the super bowl depends on Welker being available from weeks 2-4?

If he gets suspended, the Broncos will lose market share among 14 to 17 year-old teen girls in the high-income suburban geek market segment. Given the spending power of that segment, a Broncos setback could put them behind Johnny Manziel given his domination of the Texas roofie-buying 21 to 24 male market.

So yes, losing Welker from Weeks 2 through 4 could cost Denver a Super Bowl.

It gives them the extra weapon earlier. And their schedule is as hard as ours. You think it's not an advantage?? Plus what Rainman said!!

NFL confirms still no drug policy agreement. Deadline has come and gone to activate players for Sunday. So Welker, Scandrick, etc. wait.

listopencil 09-13-2014 05:54 PM

The NFL and the players' union had not reached a final agreement on proposed changes to the league's drug policy as of Saturday afternoon, meaning suspended players potentially eligible for reinstatement -- like Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker -- will not play Sunday.
