Do it so everyone in the country can have an amazing, shared belly laugh.

I actually kind of hope this is true for Dallas' sake. I live in Cowboys country and they've largely lost all hope of a real run with Dak.

DJ's left nut 03-27-2025 08:41 AM

In what world would this be even remotely possible for Dallas?

That's $150 million in dead cap this season. In purely pro-rated signing and restructure bonuses. It's money that's already been paid and therefore can't really be avoided.

There's just no way for them to do that. They'd have to clear another $100 million in cap space (they already have him on the books for around $50 million). They have $30 million in space so that leaves them needing to clear $70 million PLUS the room to sign the picks they'd get, so let's say another $10 million for shits and giggles.

I genuinely don't think it's even possible for them. I mean they would absolutely have to trade Parsons at that point because they're rebuilding anyway. So that frees up about $25 million and leaves them needing to clear another $55 million after that deal is made.

If they could get Diggs and Steele traded, that would get them another $20 million. So now they're down to $35 million.

So then you cut/trade Donovan Wilson, Malik Hooker, Kenneth Murray, DaRon Bland, Jalen Tolbert, Jake Ferguson and Damone Clark -- that clears you another $28 millionis.

I honestly don't know where else to cut after that. I mean you can't even restructure Lamb because you've already done that for 2025. Zack Martin is dead money. You could scratch out another $2 millionish by trading Tyler Smith I guess and then I suppose you just start hacking away at guys like Luke Schoonmaker, Sam Williams, Jack Sanborn, Matt Waletzko and Demarvion Overshown at about $1 million/shot.

I guess it's theoretically possible (though those guys start to backfill with players on the top 51 making the league minimum in their own right).

It would be FASCINATING to see. I mean you'd have nothing. You'd have Sanders, Lamb, Odighizuwa and scraps. And you'd almost have to deal Parsons for picks NEXT season because you don't have the cap space to sign them this year.

Would they be willing to be absolute trash for 3 years just to rebuild around Shadeur Sanders? I wouldn't think so. Dak isn't good and he's definitely overpriced, but that contract isn't so bad that you drop a nuclear bomb on your entire franchise just to get out of it.

This smells like a Hershel Walker trade.

And the Cowboys. Dont forget that part. Although I find this all highly unlikely to happen, those two teams give me the slimmest hope it could still go off.

It would be even better if this happens and then some heel owner trades with Titans for #1 and takes Sanders just to **** with Jerry.

Two franchises making a completely insane decision only to probably make both franchises substantially worse for the foreseeable future is just a beautiful disaster that I think we can all enjoy.

That would be hilarious. :hmmm:

My source says this is happening

I'm in TX as well, but I want Dak in Dallas for the next 4-5 years. Having leverage as a Chiefs fan makes up for the 90s. :thumb:

They already own that title.

It's completely made up. They were talking about this on the radio last night. That guy is the ONLY one saying this. And the cowboys would never do it.

There has to be ways to get it done. I believe the Browns can agree to take on some of that dead money correct? Maybe it's a rare 3-team type trade and Browns send out Watson+PLUS a pick to a cap friendly team that frees up space for the Browns to turn around and grab Dak+Dead money from Dallas. This would of course lower the compensation the Browns have to pay to get Dak.

Maybe something like Dallas gets #2+Dead money off the books, Browns get Dak and a 3rd team gets Watson and a mid round pick from Dallas.

When does the Cap have to be done? Like before or after June 1st? The Browns trading Watson could wait and go down after June 1st and save a TON of deadmoney doing so.

DJ's left nut 03-27-2025 10:00 AM

No - the Browns can't take on the dead money because it's already been paid out.

What you'll sometimes see is where acquiring teams can push dead money onto the trading team (convert base to bonus, the trading team pays the bonus and eats the dead money), but you can't go the other way with it and reconvert pro-rated bonus into money that can be transferred in a trade.

There's no way to get out of the dead money for Dallas. That is money that's been paid, it's on the books and it cannot be moved off them. I don't even think they can do anything to avoid accelerating it.

This isn't a situation where guaranteed salary can be moved out via trade rather than cut to avoid the dead money (that would be the case with Diggs, for instance). It's a situation where the cake is baked. The base was converted to bonus already, the money paid and now the pro-ration is on that ledger in permanent marker.

Dak is Trent Green essentially. Same type player. Good QB, not great. Good guy can win some games but won't win big. Hard type to replace because he isn't bad enough to suck, but isn't good enough to be elite.
