January, 2001. We went 11 days w/o power. My father-in-law lived a block or so away and he never lost power. So we stayed with him in his "thermostat set to 90 ****ing degrees" duplex for the majority of the time.

Yup.

I believe 12/7/05. On Thanksgiving I dropped the family off at KCI to go home to Germany for the holidays. Sweated my ass off with the luggage. The plan was I would join them ~12/15/05.

Sh*t got real 12/8. I live in the last house in KS at NE border north of Hiawatha. Anything happens, I lose power.

~1/2" of ice. That morning it sounded like WW3. "Bombs" going off as 12" tree limbs started raining down. As I was looking at my barn in the driveway, then moved forward 5 steps, I heard a loud "crack" and a "thud". I looked over my shoulder and saw a ~16" maple tree limb laying behind me, where I had just been standing.

My tree wind break had been culled. Thank goodness I had just bought a small 8N Ford tractor weeks before to move all the downed trees and limbs.

Days later, driving over downed power lines, going to Hiawatha, all the power poles looked like dominoes laid out.

Again, Providence, besides the 8N tractor, I had a compliance meeting the day before.
My generator died. I called the compliance woman, who was in Omaha, if she could pick up a generator for me as she came down to Hiawatha. There was none available in St Joe/KC/Topeka. She got the last one at HD. Additionally, Providence, her rental car was a SUV:)

I was without power for +3 weeks. Keep in mind, my water is from a well that runs on electricity.

Thank goodness the wife and kids were not home!

Edit: So today, I am going to finish hooking up my generator to my propane tank and make sure my tractor still runs....

We closed the heating vent in the room we were sleeping in AND cracked a window open and it was still too hot.

It was 2002. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I wanted a lineman but not this kind

They’ve done serious forecast revisions here and I think I’m in the clear. I mean, there are at least 15 trees that could smash my house, but I don’t feel it’s likely this week.

The giant tree in my backyard broke down from all the ice.

Yeah it's sounding from Lezak like the ice stuff is going south of KC. Still gonna be a lot of snow though, but that's a world of difference.

Probably a lot of snow if things stay the way they are. We are supposed to get 2-3" and we are 3 hours north of the strongest bands that are supposed to go south of KC.

Yeah right now my house north of the river is in a band that says 5"-9". Would be pretty wild.

**** my power is going to be out from Saturday to at least Tuesday isn't it. 15 degree highs with no heat is going to kick ass. Very glad evergy ignored my pleas to come trim branches hanging over power lines in my neighborhood

Titty Meat 01-03-2025 04:13 PM

I'm worried about losing power and how long the streets will be bad my car doesn't run well in snow :(

Get a cheap propane heater that attaches to a portable tank like used on a gas grill.

Pipe and life saver.
