That’s awful. Hopefully there were no fatalities.

Couldn't have struck the 17 any better if it were a guided missile, cut it off at the head... good grief, truly awful on many levels

Prayers to the pilots families…

I volunteered and worked to restore a B29 Super Fortress. The plane is named “Doc” when he came in you could see bullet holes in the fuselage. It was a lot of fun working with some of the old guys that had retired years before.

Where were the tail gunner and top gunner? They had clear shots. Maybe the left waist gunner, too.

Uhhh..you serious Clark? There's no way whoever was inside that B17 is still alive and it's extremely unlikely the one(s) in that smaller plane survived that impact as well. I feel terrible for the families of the deceased having to witness that first hand or video replay.

Yeah. 100% all involved are dead

What a tragedy. Someone wasn’t flying right.

I'm surprised that this doesn't happen more often at these airshows if that video is typical. It seems like they had too many planes in a small area.

That said, the fighter plane doesn't look like it tried to evade at all. It almost makes me wonder if the pilot had a medical thing happen or something. It flew straight into the B17 and never wavered. But then again it was turning, so maybe the pilot was inexperienced or distracted.

Weird situation.

Maybe the Gs got to the pilot and he became disoriented and that caused him to miss his mark.

Yeah, maybe. But unless he did something earlier that last turn didn't seem like an extreme turn. I'm not a pilot, though, so maybe more experienced people can weigh in.

The more I think about it, I bet the fighter pilot got distracted by one of the other planes.

My 12yo and I saw this B17 in St. Joe earlier this year, he bought a shirt.

We also toured Cat O Nine Tails when she was in Topeka a few years ago, just a couple months before it crashed during a tour flight.

:(

He just never saw the B17, it was below his windscreen while he was turning and in his blond spot. Neither one saw the other.
