As I said, I never got to see Dawson play. I was going by the criteria established by the OP. Dawson is easily in my top 3 if you remove that qualifier.

Ur list is missing Ricky Stanzi

Jewish Rabbi 08-24-2022 11:11 PM

Replace TrINT with Javon Belcher and you’ve got a good list Joey!

Jamie 08-25-2022 01:01 AM

1. Patrick Mahomes
2. Jamaal Charles
3. Will Shields
4. Travis Kelce
5. Derrick Thomas
6. Tyreek Hill
7. Tamba Hali
8. Priest Holmes
9. Willie Roaf
10. Brian Waters
11. Derrick Johnson
12. Tony Gonzalez
13. Mitch Schwartz
14. Dante Hall
15. Trent Green

Tried not to think about it too much. I started following the team in 93, but was more of a casual fan until about 96/97. Also the numbering is somewhat arbitrary, it'd be more accurate to break it into 3 tiers of 5. Well, except for Mahomes at 1.

14. Joe Montana (would be higher had he been here longer)
15. Derrick Johnson

I used your criteria. Only players that I saw play. I became a Chiefs fan during the Schottenheimer era, so I'll start there.

This list is really good but it would be better with Will Shields on it.

Exactly.

A lot of people proving they can't read, or worse.

I don't mind his list of fav's.

Here's my list:

15. LB Tamba Hali - I have an appreciation for guys that spent their career with the Chiefs while also performing well. He wasn't the most skilled player out there but he got the job done, and I learned to love his tireless work on the field.
14. WR Stephone Paige - Not the greatest WR ever but he didn't suck and he made the DeBerg years palatable at times on offense with some big plays. He once set the single game yardage record in the NFL and held the team's consecutive games with a reception record until Tony Gonzalez came along.
13. DT Dan Saleamua - A 7th rounder taken by Detroit, he didn't do much those first two years but when he came to KC the light went on and he played lights out for 7 or his 8 seasons here. Just a phenomenal NT in my opinion.
12. WR Eddie Kennison - Kennison was nearly as much to the Chiefs' amazing offense during the Vermeil era as Holmes was but doesn't get nearly the love, with 5,230 yards on 321 receptions (16.3 avg) during his time here. Always a big-play threat.
11. LB Derrick Johnson - One of the better LBs to play in KC and a good dude on and off the field.
10. OG Brian Waters - Nearly as good as the guy playing on the other side of center, helped form one the most dominant offensive lines of all time. Also, just a feel-good story career.
9. CB Albert Lewis - He was tall, fast, and insanely good at making teams pay. The type of corner most teams wish they had now.
8. OT John Alt - If not for Roaf's brief appearance in KC, Alt might be talked about as the best LT to ever play here. He's one of KC's most underrated all-time players and spent his entire career in KC.
7. RB Priest Holmes - If one man's trash was ever another man's treasure, then Holmes may be atop that list. What he did his few years in KC is unparalleled, but he didn't go without a little help up front. That said, he was exciting to watch.
6. S Deron Cherry - An underdog that was released in final cuts and came back to be the greatest safety this team ever had and one of the greatest to ever play. A true playmaker and a good man.
5. RB Jamaal Charles - Might be the most talented runner KC has ever had, and they've had some good ones. It's a shame his career was wasted on bad teams, but he never really complained. I loved watching him knowing any play could go to the house.
4. LB Derrick Thomas - A dawg among dawgs. I don't remember a time when I didn't expect him to be great and he never disappointed.
3. OG Will Shields - A phenomenal player and a great guy off the field. Just a pro's pro.
2. TE Travis Kelce - A great player, as hard a worker at his craft as you'll find, a good teammate, and has certainly provided some entertaining moments.
1. QB Patrick Mahomes - The definitive piece to me seeing KC win a Super Bowl in my lifetime, a good teammate, and a solid leader. Also, just the guy I wanted KC to bring in because of his insane potential to be great.

Like 95% of this board, I didn't get to see Lenny and Buck and so on play, so it's pretty hard to call them a personal favorite. They are a favorite only in lore and watching old videos.

Just can't comprehend how a punter could be on any fan's top 15 favorite player list

Does anyone care?

I doubt it.

I’m doing it anyway. Can't whoop me.

I’m kicking the whole thing off with my top 15 favorite Chiefs. These aren’t necessarily the best to ever wear red and gold, but they are my personal favorites. Keep in mind, I’m only 32 years old and I won’t be adding anyone I never saw play.

Let’s Go!

15 QB Chase Daniel

Greatest QB of All Time to never get a real shot. He’d be in my top 5 if he’d played for us longer. He’s obviously my top Tiger of all time.

14 G Brian Waters

Love it when undrafted guys make such a huge impact for my favorite football team.

13 FB Tony Richardson

I always loved this guy when I was a kid, mostly because I had a newspaper clipping of him holding up Priest after a TD stuck to my wall for years.

12 LB Tamba Hali

This fella here was drafted a few hours before my daughter was born, that’s a memory that will always stick out to me. He played with a high intensity motor that I love seeing. One of those guys that it upsets me that he didn’t get to be around for the SB.

11 P Dustin Colquitt

This guy was the best player on the team during some years I should’ve been in my peak fandom. I know we joke he was the MVP on the Edwards’ teams, but to me, he really was.

10 S Eric Berry

I know, we all hate Berry now. But, at one time I freaking loved this guy, and still do. He hit hard. He seemed to have fun out there. And the cancer story puts the icing on the cake. If he could’ve stuck around to win the SB with Pat, he’d probably be in everyone’s top ten, maybe even top 5 chiefs.

9 TE Tony Gonzales

One of my first sports heroes outside of Michael Jordan, I can’t believe I don’t have him higher. Maybe it’s how he left. I don’t know. But I did love watching him play. So much.

8 LG Will Shields

Outstanding dude by all accounts and I’m proud to say he was Chief. And for so long.

7 TE Travis Kelce

I feel like Kelce could be in my friend group. When he was younger, and now that he’s more mature and I guess so am I. It feels weird putting him above Tony, but he’s got a Ring. And that OT run last year really sealed the deal on how much I love this guy. Hope he plays another 5 years.

6 RB Priest Holmes

When we’d play games as teenagers, Basketball, Football, Throwing things into buckets, etc. We almost always played to 31 as a homage to an all-time great RB. Those Dick V years were instrumental in my development as a Chiefs fan, and Priest was my probably my second favorite player for a long time.

5 LB Derrick Thomas

I barely remember him playing, but we share a last name, and he’s this high for obvious reasons.

4 HB Jamaal Charles

Wish there was a way he could be in the HOF. Wish he could’ve been here for the SB. Wish he wouldn’t have been a Bronco. What a great player and a great example to kids everywhere.

3 QB Patrick Mahomes

Is he anyone’s all time favorite yet? It’s hard to not put him at #1 for all he’s done in such a short time. He’s easily in my opinion, the best Chief ever, and that’s just after 4 years. He’s just not my all time favorite quite yet. That will probably change.

2 LB Derrick Johnson

I loved him as a player. I loved him even more as a man. I’ve met with him about a dozen times. Several times doing community service, a couple of times he reached out to me to see how my life was going and if I had my addiction under control. I don’t personally know any of the other men on this list like I do DJ, but I feel like this is the best man to every play for our team. When he went down in 2016, I thought we had a real chance at winning it all, and I almost cried that he wouldn’t be there with us. Of course that didn’t happen, but it sucks he couldn’t hang on a few more years for SB 54.

1 QB Trent Green

I was 11 when he became our QB. I was 13 when we went 9-0, which was the first real excitement I ever experienced as a full-fledged die-hard fan. I loved Trent. Still love Trent. I consider the Bengals game in 05 one of the worst days of my life. Number 10 was always my Jersey number. It’s still my favorite number. He’ll always be my true childhood hero, which locks him in here at number one.

Bengals game was opening day, 06

htismaqe 08-25-2022 07:05 AM

I tried coming up with a list but I lost interest after putting Mahomes #1. It's Mahomes and then everybody else.

Yeah, your list is something alright.

I don't remember much of Derrick Thomas. I was 9 when he died. I became a Chiefs fan around '97, i was young, so most of my likeness towards DT was because we share a last name. That's not gonna put you ahead of a guy(charles) who I clearly remember loving every minute he was on the field.

Chase Daniel I put on there because I ****ing can.

Not sure how you can argue Berry being a fan favorite while he was here. This is a favorite player list, not a greatest ever list.

And Trent was the man while I was in my preteen/early teen years. He was the Quarterback of my favorite team, and I idolized him greatly. Can't discount that. Tried to name my son after him in '09, TBH.

I've been lucky enough in my life to have a somewhat personal relationship with DJ. I wouldn't trade a couple of those talks for anything Mahomes could ever do on the field.

Also, the reason why it's hard for me to put Mahomes so high in my heart, is because I still remember the true escape The Kansas City Chiefs gave me as a kid. It was so much stronger back then. I mean, I'm still a die hard fan, I love Patrick, my ****ing wifi is named "Mahomes is a Hero", but I just don't have the emotional attachment to this team that I once did. I lost it pre-mahomes, I think. Maybe we should blame Mark Castle. I don't know.
