Instead, they kept it Trek and everyone was super supportive of his choice to find his place on the ship.

100% agreed. I had grave concerns that this was gonna be Rick and Morty in space, or some bastardization of STTNG... but instead it has been real Trek.

I suspect that we will, soon, be hearing voice acting work from Patrick Steward and several other legacy characters. Bonus... this might be an avenue for Brent Spiner to play B4/Data again (assuming they follow Canon set by the Countdown graphic novel).

I might check it out. I love Star Trek and I love good funny cartoons as well.

You should absolutely check it out. It is extremely well made and scratches that STTNG itch in a way that Voyager couldn't even remotely begin to.

Yeah, it's been way, way better than I expected, especially after the abortion that was Picard.

There are 4 of us watching it now!!!!

Got caught up on this. It's not amazing, but it's not garbage, either. Entertaining enough to keep me coming back. I did chuckle at the line about how the Enterprise seemingly has something new going on each week, though. Nice touch.

The first actor from STTNG is set to reprise their role on LD.

That finale was pretty ****ing good.

Well... the series just ended. Last episode went out on Paramount+. It had a 5 year mission and it stuck the landing. The end* also gave an open to possible feature length films being released in the future which I am PUMPED about.

I loved this show. This is one of the best Trek shows to ever be made. I wish that more Trek fans on the Planet had picked up on this series but I get it... sometimes you just don't like something.

With the series having come to and end... my rating of Trek series is updated as follows:

1. DS9
2. TNG
3. LD
4. Enterprise
5. SNW
6. TOS
7. VOY
8. Picard**
9. Animated TOS
10. A Trek show that hasn't been made yet
11. The Orville
12. Discovery

Lower Decks made me appreciate the TNG/DS9/VOY era of Trek even more than I did before and can be re-watched multiple times with new references and call backs to the actions of the crews of the prior shows. I urge you to get past the first few episodes where it is mostly character introduction and them finding their footing. TNG's first two seasons were, mostly, rough and yet it is possibly the most beloved of them all.

*
Spoiler!

** Picard S1 was ok and S2 was hot garbage which drags down the overall score for the series

DS9, along with Discovery, are the only ST shows I haven't watched in full. I guess I may have not seen all of Voyager, but watched the last couple seasons fairly recently and they were excellent.

I tried watching DS9 from the beginning last year, but just couldn't do it. Where should I start if I want to try later in the series?

Oh, and Lower Decks is phenomenal. I am so glad I gave it another shot after your recommendation a while back! I would love to see more content, maybe even live action as I've seen rumors, with the cast of LD.

People will tell you how amazing DS9 is, but I will tell you how great DS9 was.

For it's time it was ground-breaking. The good guys did bad things. The bad guys sometimes had righteous beliefs, but their actions were bad.

It's been done a million times the last 20 years, but DS9 was the first to do it.

It will be very hard to get into going in cold today. I'll have to look back at an episode list to tell you when to start.

The first couple seasons were not good at all.

I watched the first couple seasons when it first aired before losing interest.

I enjoyed the episode where LD crossed over into Strange New Worlds

My guide for getting into DS9.

It's the first three seasons that are sort of lame, although overall they're much better than the first two mostly lame seasons of Next Generation. But like NG, there are a few gems in there.

I think a good rule would be to check the IMDb ratings. Any episode with a rating higher than 7.0 is probably worth a look, and anything lower than that probably isn't. Definitely watch anything that talks about the Dominium in the description, since they become the big baddie later on.

Starting with season 4, Worf joins the crew and DS9 starts to focus on the Dominium War, which also includes conflict with the Klingons. Gowron, my personal favorite recurring supporting character, features in a lot of them. This is when it gets really good, and in later seasons, really gets dark, and at times, really, really ****ing dark. Far more so than other Star Trek series. That's when Sisko really starts to shine. I rank him over Kirk for a reason.

The first season seemed really slow going. It got better, for sure.

I did always cringe at those alternate universe episodes where Kira was bad (amongst others). Other than that, I think the show was pretty good.

Yeah, I did the same. I think. Heck, I might have stopped watching sometime during the first season.

But I went back and watched the entire series in recent years and I really enjoyed it.

Lzen 01-03-2025 11:23 AM

Oh, and I did watch Lower Decks from the first season back in 2020. I have enjoyed it. Sad to see it go but all good things......

Star Trek Discovery reintroduced that same thing, (So long, Emperor Giorgio. See you in Star Trek - Section 31) although not on a quantum reality level, even though they borrowed it from TOS. No complaints there?
