Two negatives make a positive.

Dungy is the most overrated coach of all time. Anyone that has seen even one Colts game while he was head coach knows that was Manning's team. I have never seen a coach let his QB kick the punt team off the field like Manning has done on several occasions while Dungy was coach. Let's be real, Manning was the real coach of that team. Dungy had such a terrible reputation with offense that when he was hired he was contractually binded not to touch the Colts offense. Manning was so dominant in play and in personality that he took over that team and coached and played their way to the Lombardi in 06.

one of Reid's sons was smuggling drugs up his butt cheeks during his prison sentence and got caught for it. I'm not sure if this is one but those kids have had a rocky history. It's a shame when their dad makes millions and they can live off that.

The core of those Colt teams, including Manning, that Dungy took over were also already in place when Dungy moved to the Colts.

You ask Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Barber any of those guys who was the key coach in their development.

Everybody loves Dungy.

He's a hell of a nice guy.

Doesn't change the fact that he's an overrated piece of crap coach.

The thing about the Eagles under Andy Reid is they seem to get good performances out of guys who can't seem to re-create the success somewhere else. I don't know if they just get the most out of guys, or what it is. I am almost convinced if we passed on McCluster and Eagles had drafted him like they were planning, he'd be a weapon and we'd all be like "Why don't we draft guys like that?"

Ace Gunner 08-05-2012 11:19 AM

Reid? Edwards? Dungy? Schottenhiemer? Fox?

I bet if you gave them a good scouting FO and fourteen years to do it, each one of them would win a championship.

Sincerely,

Bill Cowher

That's a terrible comparison.

But I'll tell you, and I've siad this before, both Marty and Manning could have benefitted from working with each other.

Mrty never in his career had a QB that he could trust with the offense like he could have with Manning, and Manning never had a strong leader like Marty at HC.

I firmly believe that Marty would have overcome his fear of losing, and would have loosened his conservative grip on Mannig and allowed his offfenses to play to win with Manning, while Marty would have had a strong voice that would have demanded a bit more balance on offense, which would have benefitted the entire team.

I hated Marty, but I believe he was a better coach than Tony Dungy.

Wow, some Marty love from Milkman.

I personally give Marty more credit than you do overall, but you hit the nail on the head with the hammer on this one. One hundred percent agree on everything.

While i agree with you somewhat that he was very "Marty Like", he was slightly better.''

Marty had his chances with top tier QBs like Kosar, Brees and Rivers and blew it.

Just because a coach is quiet and stoic does not mean he sucks. I admire Dungy quite a bit.

Dungy had one of the best QBs to ever play for close to a decade and won a super bowl. With his prior team never won a playoff game. That's a sign you may not be head coaching material.

I don't think anybody is trying to put Dungy in any coaching HOF. He won a SB and built a SB winner in Tampa. No matter who was ultimately most responsible for those things, he was the HMFIC. He is near .700 as a HC. He's not Lombardi but his body of work is superior to most head coaches. You can't ignore that, saying he had elite players. So did Lombardi. So did Nall, Walsh, Landry, Parcells and any number of other coaches who are highly rated in the annuls of NFL history.

The difference is that the other names you mention all won multiple SBs.
