My guess is that the rumored Fox TV deal was enough to convince NEB to stay behind if the conference would survive. But if MU were to leave along with Colorado, it would open up fissures that other conferences would start to pick at.

Ultimately I don't have any earthly idea why NEB would care about MU unless they really preferred to keep the Big 12 alive. Not my show.
