The mahomes card is a well I don’t want to jump on too often. Every time we restructure that we add a few more million to his future cap hit. Seems like this year we have no choice but hopefully just as a last resort

Wonder if it's the back. Either way, some red flags here, so plz proceed w/ caution Chefs. I think some incentive-laden, shorter term deal may be in the air here.

RunKC 03-17-2022 01:07 PM

If the Chiefs sign Za’Darius Smith I hope they do it with the right contract while also bringing back Ingram and drafting an early rd DE.

His back concerns me

Sassy Squatch 03-17-2022 01:08 PM

The fact he doesnt have another deal lined up makes me believe it was the Ravens that backed out. Something may be up with his medicals that scared them off.

I actually heard this on a couple podcasts, that the talk around the combine was that we weren't going to make any big moves this year, and were more targeting 2023.

Also I won't be surprised if we don't restructure Mahomes. I feel like we've been thinking of the restructure as free money, but we do have to pay it at some point. I think we should be careful of getting into a situation down the road where Mahomes has a top-of-market cap number but is actually making middle-of-market money.

I doubt we even offered, he doesn’t fit what Veach usually targets in FA, he likes younger guys, it’s why I’ve felt it was always going to be someone like JuJu for that spot.

Exactly.

When you look at their philosophy, and the fact that we know they offered JuJu last year, he’s always been the most likely target.

The fact that JuJu hasn't signed with any other team leads me to believe that his agent and Veach are involved in a deal. He wants to be a chief and he fits our offense. Signing him makes too much sense.

He wasn’t the salary cap guy.

He was the guy that identified existing NFL players that we could sign to build the roster, so hopefully the guys we sign to round out the roster are as good as the guys we’ve brought in for bargains in the past.

PattyFlakes 03-17-2022 01:52 PM

JuJu at 25 fits what this team wants for that role, and considering we tried to sign him last offseason, it would make far more sense that he’s probably their top target for that 2nd WR spot.

Chiefs were involved. Probably too much

I'd honestly rather NOT hear that the Chiefs were involved. I'd rather feel they weren't interested than feel like we missed an opportunity.
