I enjoyed two movies recently both are based off actual things that happened.
The Walk and The 33, I kick myself for not watching the first one on the big screen, I read it is incredible to view. |

I'm thinking about watching Tarzan and The Shallows today. Needless to say, I'm very bored.

It's out on video, and it's not a blockbuster or serious art piece.
But if you want an hour and a half of sophomoric glee, I thoroughly enjoyed 'What We Do in the Shadows.' It's a mockumentary of some vampires who ended up sharing a loft in New Zealand. Think if The Real World, Spinal Tap, and Flight of the Conchords got all mixed together on a budget. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Cv568AzZ-i8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I suppose it is hard in this day in age to even tell the story of Tarzan and be politically correct. Try they did though by making Tarzan an abolitionist hero with an African-American sidekick. The whole movie was dripping with trying to make a "New Tarzan Franchise" that would be acceptable to the masses and not offend. Sorry, but that is not the story of Tarzan. I think the time has passed on this on this whole story line and perhaps they should never attempt to make a Tarzan movie again. |

The Purge: Election Year wasn't bad for some mindless fun.
Those movies are getting weirder and weirder though. |

Purge was ok. 2 hrs of mindless action. Don't mind it.
Tarzan was pretty bad. Bad acting, bad story, bad special effects. Finding Dory was great. Not as funny as Finding Nemo, but more emotional and meaningful. |

BFG was pretty good

I was surprised by Tarzan. I thought it was going to be garbage and it was actually very well done.

Cardinal Matter - trailer is on Vimeo. True Detective like drama, good main actors, a plot like you wouldn't believe. Must watch!!
|
Remember the Stephen King book Cell? Well, they apparently made a movie of it with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson starring in it. Sounds promising, right? It's sitting at 0% at Rotten Tomatoes. I don't think I've ever seen a movie at 0% before.

I think I read that one thinking it might be your typical zombie type read and it got weird as hell, quickly. IIRC, the undead zombie antagonist dudes ended up being hive-minded with telepathic powers and shit. And I feel like I remember something about them floating or hovering on thin air. Just bad.. |

Fooled ya! I'm actually kind of an asshole.
Stuff I've recently watched: The Shallows (2016) Not much plot, or character development. Chick gets attacked by shark, clings to small rock near shore for survival, tries to find a way to get to shore. That's it. Watchable, but nothing new or exiting. I'd wait to catch it on tv. Some Rifftrax stuff: The Wizard (1989) Miami Connection I Believe in Santa Claus Icebreaker Wizards of the Lost Kingdom Hillbillys in a Haunted House Sharknado 2 The Night of the Living Dead I'm about to watch an old French flick called "Un Coupable." |

Dead End from 2003 - you're welcome.

On a related note, I watched Horns over the weekend, based on Joe Hill's(King's) book of the same name. It was a decent time waster. |
Some shithead I work with said Mad Max Fury Road was a trash movie. My head almost exploded.
|
wow, Cell was filmed in (at least) 2013 based on some trivia on IMDB. Must suck more than I thought
|
I'll be the one to say it: Stephen King is overrated.

Dreamcatcher. That was shit.

How can he put out movies like It, The Green Mile, and Shawshank, then turn around and give us Dreamcatcher, Cell, and tv show Under the Dome. He's all over the map. |

Anyhow, SK definitely cannot write a good ending for the most part. But he has some great ideas, as does his son. |

As far as his books, a previous poster nailed it. His good stories are gems, but for the most part he puts out overwritten trash. |
How did you guys feel about Pet Semetary?

Even my wife, who reads like two books a ****ing week Says he's overrated as ****.
My wife is like Rain Man (Dustin Hoffman, not CP) reading books. Quite the expensive habit. |
I still say my favorite SK works are his short stories. Skeleton Crew has been my #1 collection of short stories in any genre since I was a teenager.

This right here. I've been a huge library fiend for the past year and a half or so. It's awesome. They've got new movies and music as well. |
My county even has digital books available to checkout online.
The future is now, people! |
Although I'll admit there's no substitute for an actual book in your hand

I'm reading American Assassin right now in hardcover. It's been a bit since I've read anything other than the Kindle or a paperback and I've enjoyed the nostalgic feel of a hardcover, as funny as that sounds. |

Damn, I hate to be that one-upping douche but our library system will deliver the shit to your house for the free! Yes, free.99. It's an awesome service that a large percentage of the population doesn't even know about, which is probably a good thing because if everyone knew they'd probably overload the system. |
*The NEW Movies Thread*
It's kinda risky for me living in apartments though. I had the fourth Game of Thrones book delivered to my house once and no one was home so they legit just left it right at the base of the door. In an apartment that shit could get snatched up so quick.
I mean, it's something from the library that literally anyone can have for free so I wouldn't think people would be apt to steal it, but people are weird and shady. I wouldn't put it past them. |

I'd imagine most people don't give two shits, though. Some of the items I check out just look like they've been through hell. I can't tell you how many times I've checked out a movie only to get home and find that the disc is so scratched up my DVD player can't play it. Inconsiderate assholes. It's gotten to the point where i check the disc before even leaving the library to save myself the annoyance. |
If you are reading books, don't you want to buy them so you can have that trophy?
I am the same with movies in that if I buy one I want the hard copy, not a digital download. |
Watched The Witch. Was completely let down. I hate when they hype a movie and then it sucks.
|

Nope. I hate clutter. |

Yeah, I thought so too. Difficult to understand the dialogue at times as well. It was like eating a huge bowl of plain oatmeal- it gets boring fast, and you get full of it after a few bites. |
Finally watched Gran Torino. I hadn't watched it because I wasn't really into all the slurs. I'm not a prude or anything, I just figured it would be over the top. And it wouldn't have been if Eastwood and all his buddies called each other mics and pollocks. ROFL
Goddamn that was a hell of a good movie. I wish I'd have watched it sooner. |
Quote:
I don't like racists....don't like slurs etc.....but this movie....you start out hating the sonofabitch and by the end you're rooting for him. just awesome. push comes so shove I think I still give Unforgiven the nod....but Gran Torino is just a great great movie. |
has anyone seen the new Tarzan movie?
I heard a few things and they are exact opposites. some say yay...some say boo. |

SK - I love him. remember that even the babe couldn't hit a home run every time!
after I read Under The Dome I wanted to kill him. then I read 11/22/63 and I loved him again. hahahaha totally agree with afore mentioned - his shorts are the best. but always always the book will outshine a movie. as for the shorts...so many come to mind....but the one that always stuck with me (from Skeleton Crew) cause it just scared the shit out of me....Gramma. geeze man...just ****ing creepy. and the end....OMG.....you'll never look at old people the same again. |

guess I'll stick with spider vids. :D |
Watched The Boy with Maggie from the Walking Dead yesterday. It was OK. They had a decent twist in there but, like most horror flicks, the plot really doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
I'd recommend it, though. The tension during the first hour or so was actually pretty good. |

Watched Get a Job the other weekend. It was an ok movie. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible.

Yeah, at first I thought it was pretty cool but after a bit I was just like nahhhhhh. A solid 9 out of 10 horror flicks these days ends horribly anyway so I wasn't mad. |
Movie was mostly crap, but I enjoyed the twist in 'The Visit'
