Got scratches and bruises all over my legs but I only hit muh head once on a rock. That didn't feel good but no blood so I was fine.

ottawa_chiefs_fan 06-05-2018 12:22 PM

Just got back from my annual trip to northern quebec - 85 walleye in 4 days between my son and I. Plus a bunch of northern pike. Was awesome - first night was 30 degrees C, then NW wind blew in and went down to 4 degrees C by final night. crazy, but did not impact fishing that much surprisingly.

What bait did you use to catch walleye ?

I'm guessing a mix of frozen shiners and/or chubs. It's what we use every time I've fished up there this time of year

I'm headed up to LoW with my brother, dad, and some other family/friends here in a few weeks. Frickin pumped! We've been pulling in about 100+ walleye per boat (3 to 4 fishers in boat), per day the last few years. There is no walleye fishing like Canadian walleye fishing

I was a human pinball in a pinball machine but at least I had fun but I conceded to the river and has to walk 3sh miles to the destination where my friend was waiting to pick me up.

Holy Shitballs that was nuts. Now I need a new kayak to do it again.

Yeah, but did you find any trout? The rio has a lot of almost-virgin water and some nice, strong, and large fish.

Probably good thing I left the kayak down engulfed in the rocks so I wouldn't try that again this week lol

On the other hand I do have a couple inflatable rafts I could try but I think I'll save them for the lake this weekend .

Was talking to a fishing guide that guides at Lake Texoma. He said he was fishing in 70 feet of water and there was a solid 30 feet of fish under the boat. The lake is really healthy.

Anyone got a link to a good fishing kayak for small bodies of water? Bonus if it's camo as I would like to try duck hunting out of it as well.

This movie was shot on May 21, so conditions were most likely similar to what you experienced, right?

Ok so maybe it wasn't such a grand idea I ever had. Have you heardof the narrows? It's a part of the RACETRACK that I took unbeknownst to me. Apparently some kayakers pulled out a folded in half red kayak that was up against the rocks with heavy current flowing.

I met some rafters and kayakers as I was fishing under a broken up bridge down streem from where I was has my learnin experience. They were cool of course their kayakers were more designed for it and one guy had a kayak skirt that keeps water out of the kayak. Had I had one of those I think I could have made it. They were all glad I made it out of their alive with only bruises and scratches all over my legs.

I wonder what stupid crazy thing I'm bound to do next time my brain has an idea? :hmmm:

I found a Christ Cross necklace & I thought maybe it's a sign so I go up top to my car and crack open a nice cold bottle of Coca-Cola when two vans pull up and at least two dozen college girls from UNM geology class. They go down to my watering hole and God Bless America undress to swim. Ok they weren't naked but damn it was a nice view as I reeled in some more moss.

Honestly ,if you can get your hands on a 13' Gheenoe you will love it.If you're not familiar its like a canoe but square in the back. I've had one for nearly 30 years. Great for fishing and duck hunting and will float in inches of water.

So after a dismal 2017 fishing season, this year has been outstanding thus far

While the quantity is down, the quality has been way up thanks to my mantra for 2018... 'lunkers or bust', just been following the old wisdom that if you want big fish, use big bait/lures

Havent caught more than 2 fish on any given outing so far, but they've all been solid keepers, including one 5-6 pound bass that was a top 5 in my life fight, this suckers head was literally as big as my hand

Been exploring new fishing holes to keep it interesting, caught the bruiser bass at one state park last saturday that I'd never been to, fishing another state park north of me this weekend that I havent been to since a boy... heres to hoping everyone else is getting out of the house and slaying them too

Searched around & only found the video fisting & assmasters threads, i know their are plenty of backdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fisting.

I only use spincast feels & fist mostly large/small mouth ass & kitty. My choice of feels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound ass & 10-20 pound kitty on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.

Perky powerbaits are a big part of my dick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on sister twister scented white curly tail grunts, on one day fisting for sores to a bridge position, i caught smallies, big mouths, pervs & even 1 crap believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas pigged perky worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of lover without getting hung up.

With kitty i strictly bottom fish, no boober & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, lover/chunk of cheese etc. Kitty are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...

So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fist on? What do you fist for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's brown trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything?

We are a week from the 4th of July and I still haven't caught a fish this year.

I'm to the point where this isn't even fun anymore. I know they aren't my spots, but i get so pissed off when i see someone fishing or throwing a net in one of "my spots". Facebook has ruined the secret fishing hole. Two years ago there was rarely another fisherman on that river. Now I see someone new each time i go down there.

I can't get bait and I destroyed my 4th cast net in little over a years time on Monday. Those add up at $25 a pop. My spots are being taken over by out of towners from Missouri who get there at 4 am and fish all ****ing weekend. I finally was able to get more than a few shad on Sunday and got chased off by a storm 45 minutes in.

I just want to catch some fish. Is that too much to ask?

I could've written this rant for the last several years, there are bajillions of wannabe Jeremy Wades these days out there hogging everything up and pressuring the hell out of the area

My advice is to start thinking small, there are monster catfish in the deep pools of every single creek that feeds off your favorite river... all 3 of my top cats, and some of my favorite sport fishing moments came from the deep, and sometimes very shallow, pools of a small creek

Spend an extra $5 in gas and get away from the crowds

Asains are the same way on the west coast. They bucket everything they pull up with crab nets. They show up about 30 folks deep, from infant to decrepit. Throw over a few crab nets, load up in a hurry and go home.

Same in my area. 5 years ago, I don't think I ever saw an Asian fishing in any of the areas I fish. Now, they unload out of vans like Ants and take everything they catch. I was bank fishing, just enjoying the morning, next thing I know, I have 15 Asian's right next to me. Mexicans in our area are also pretty bad, they will take over an entire bank, they will throw 10-15 lines per person, you cant even get a spot sometimes. I try to find the more secluded areas, but even that is hard sometimes, ideally I like to pond fish, but most of my connections are gone since I moved further out in the country.

When you see it, start calling the Game Warden. They'll follow the rules eventually or stop. If they're destroying the fishing due to too many lines and poaching you're obligated as a sportsman to turn them in. It's how we maintain a future.

There is a gang of Asian street racers from KCK that show up and fish all the wiper out of the Wakarusa river every summer.

Nabbed a nice 10 pound channel last night on a nightcrawler, and followed it up with a keeper size (3 pound) bass on the same bait... having a decent little fish fry later tonight

Potato salad, sliced onion, iced tea... mmm

Heh, nope everything I said is true... a REAL fish story would've had bigger pounds and more feesh

Its been that way all year for me so far, not getting big numbers at all... but almost always get something that makes me feel accomplished enough, and they're usually keeper size

Whats up with the Misses, nothing serious I hope?

My dad broke his trolling motor back in late May. He took it to Bass Pro as everything is under warranty. 2015 boat. They found a crack in his motor head. A month and a half later he finally got it back with a new trolling motor and upper unit for the main motor. Two year old boat with a bad Mercury motor. He babies the hell out of that boat too.

Should be fishing in the morning.

Tracker boats have the Versatrack system for mounting stuff without drilling holes but the stuff is expensive like 100 bucks for 2 rod holders... I got 8 rod holders from Academy Sports for 75 bucks and modified them to work with my boat without having to drill any holes in the boat itself

Got the ipilot and the new garmin installed

That ipilot is the best thing you could ever put on a boat, went fishing today, the wind was rocking as usual and the ipilot just held me on the spot... fished 5 hours and had 80% battery left and I only run 1 interstate batter for the trolling motor

Love smallish creeks that most people look right past when looking to go fishing, there are true lunkers lurking in those little creeks... and you wont have to fight the crowds, or wade through all their damn trash

I live at the dam that ends one and starts another

One has 957 miles of shore. The other has around 1150 iirc

You should have gotten the Garmin Panoptix live sonar setup. It’s expensive but absolutely amazing. I’d love to get it eventually.

A buddy is taking me to Smithville bass fishin in the am tomorrow. He knows his shit. He’s an old tournament guy. See how it goes. I’m more of a crappie, catfish, walleye, trout guy but it’s always fun to tie into a few bass up there. He said to plan for back of cove senkos and secondary pont medium running shad cranks. I’m all packed up. See how it goes

If you're out early, top waters in the back of coves can be a lot of fun this time of year.

You will love the ipilot. Mine has it built in on my trout boat, I can control the motor from anywhere in the boat. I also launch my boat with no one in it, and once its clear of the trailer, I stand there on the ramp and bring it back in. You can also set it up to follow ledges and structure, then go back to fishing while it does the driving. I use a hand controlled with stomp box on my bass boat, but I am always right there to control it, but the trout boat, I am always running the outboard and never on the front deck so anything other than an ipilot wouldn't work for me on that boat.

I don't know how I lived without it... Boat control is something I always struggled with a bit but this baby solves that problem and you spend more time fishing where you want to be fishing .

Fishing is the activity of trying to catch fish. Fish are normally caught in the wild. Techniques for catching fish include hand gathering, spearing, netting, angling and trapping.

How do you read those fish finders? What am I looking at on those screens? I've never had one and am legit not sure how to utilize them

Easy 6 10-30-2018 03:53 PM

Looks like a bad day to be on the water if you ask me

But you made it pay off with a decent little crappie fry

It's not that hard the top left is basically a traditional regular fish finder
the one under it is down imaging which is seeing exactly as the one on top of it just in more detail

The big one on right is side imaging and it basically shoots a beam from both sides in a cone shape, its narrow at the boat thats why you see the black to the right and left then it widens as it goes towards the bank and sends detailed info back on structure... 99% of fresh water fishing is structure, fish like to hide and ambush prey from this...

Most newer units come with traditional and down imaging... the side imaging is what raises the price alot but it's getting cheaper too... These three tools will put you on the fish but finding them and catching them are two different things :)

That was fog on the lake, it was a clear day, water was about 59 degrees and air temp was 34 , thats where the fog came from

You should take those crappie and use them to bait big cats. Cats absolutely love crappie , cut them in half and bait up.

Loves me some catfeesh, thats no lie... but crappies even better IMO

Pretty sure I'm gonna need to play game warden with R8R and bust out the tape measure on one of those, though... do you have your fishing license on you, Mr R8R?
