Smith is interesting to me because here we have a lot of people who are like "meh" he's good but has issues.

Yet you go anywhere else and everyone is like "This dude is the #1 FA, blue chip top of the line"

There usually isn't that kind of variance in evaluation.

If they STILL haven't solved LT in 2025 people aren't going to give a shit about whether they paid Trey Smith a market setting deal or let him walk.

I mean, my God, going into the 2025 season with the exact same OL situation except Humphrey and Smith are being paid top of the market instead of on the rookie wage scale?

Right. I was just reading an article on NFL.com and they said it would be "asinine" to let him go.

It seems the whole world thinks he needs to be a top priority. Everybody except for us here. It's weird.

I like Trey but we can't run the ball for shit so I don't know if that is on him (OL) or our shitty RB's. Also for as much money we are putting in our OL Pat shouldn't get touched but he got hit more last year then any year that I could remember. It wasn't all the LT fault either.

Just my .02 cent

You're making my point for me. You're going to bitch either way. You can demand that they solve LT, but it doesn't make it any easier. If it were that easy, it wouldn't STILL be an issue.

And when I say solve, I mean legit good LT play. Sure, they can get Donovan Smith play, but that's why I'm brining up the possiblity that Thuney gets hurt and you lose Smith. If you get that kind of LT play with the rest of the OL in tact, we're golden. But Donovan Smith or even OBJ would've looked MUCH worse without Thuney and Smith.

Well we aren't good at RB, Pacheco has no vision and after breaking his leg his explosion wasn't there anymore. Hunt could find the holes but didn't have the ability accelerate anymore.

I do think it's as much a RB problem as an OL problem.

That's a lot of money if the report is true. Gonna be interesting to see what Veach says. I'm not sure he's ever actually said this but given his moves it seems like he puts a lot of emphasis on the interior offensive line.

Go look at Crow’s mock from yesterday in the draft forum.

I know Crow wouldn’t advocate signing Smith, but he does it there, and you can see how they get to the conclusion that if the goal is to put together the very best 30-35 players to play meaningful offensive and defensive snaps in 2025, it may include signing Smith.

It just doesn’t take a whole lot of backflips and cartwheels to see how they can re-sign Smith, sign LT, have a sensible BPA draft, and come out with the optimal 2025 roster.

They’re in a precarious position on the OL. Thuney probably gone after 2025, need to get Jawaan off the books after 2025 as well if possible.

Kingsley is learning LG and should be fine to start at one G spot in 2026. The problem is tackle. LT is nearly impossible for a team like us to find. There are literally no good options but the draft. Idk what to tell you guys.

The issue with Trey is that if you pay him and a vet tackle like Cam Robinson, what do you do about Jawaan in 2026 if we are right back here again with no feasible tackle options?

Very well stated. We are obsessing over the possibility of the offensive line making so much money, but when you consider the top 3 skill positions on this roster (WR, RB, CB) are making literal pennies, it gives you some flexibility.

You can pay Smith and then drop Taylor, Thuney or both next year. It's not overcomplicated. Nobody understands Tre Smith's value as much as KC. If they find him to be a core player and want him back, I'm certainly not going to go giving them a hard time about it.

Well there you go. Tagging him seems like the worst thing they could do.

OnTheWarpath15 02-27-2025 01:14 PM

OL tag is $23M?

Mecca 02-27-2025 01:14 PM

And there it is, hope there's a deal close cause otherwise they aren't gonna have much wiggle room in FA.
