Do they take themselves seriously, or do they know they are hucksters and just take the check because it pays well?

For the same reason, I've pretty much stopped looking at stock and finance analysis these days. The same site will have articles on their front page talking about the upcoming bull market and the upcoming bear market. They'll tout a stock in one article and call it overpriced in the next.
