There are fights like that still. Its all about styles and you really cant be ik too many of those wars and expect not to have long term brain trauma. Floyd managed to make a fortune while keeping his brain in one piece. Smart guy really.

Well, as suspected, this fight should have taken place at least 5 years ago.

It's a shame that such a hyped event lacked much punch in the end. Even though, anyone familiar with Mayweather knows that he can be amazing from a technical standpoint, and probably the most efficient tactician in the sport ever.

The flipside is his fights can be boring to the casual fan of boxing and vapid of excitement and fireworks.

As a consolation prize I've posted the Gatti v Ward trilogy- which is nothing short of AMAZING!

Seriously, if you've never seen their 3 fights before, watch them right now. I can promise you won't be disappointed.

I grew up watching boxing with my dad, and we used to watch classic fights he saw growing up as well as new matches over the years.

Every couple of years when I am visiting my parents, he and I will revisit Gatti Ward's 3 flights because they are breathtaking and jaw dropping at the same time.

Enjoy!

All hype no substance.

Anyone who expected anything different out of the fight was a fool.

This is a long, but awesome read on Floyd's style and why he shouldn't be considered one of the greatest of all time boxers.

It's not Floyd bashing from a Floyd hater (had to say that before the Floyd fan boys get their panties in a bunch).

In Mayweather’s case, being undefeated means a good deal, but not nearly enough, on its own, to vault him into the upper tier all-time great category. Former minimumweight and light flyweight Ricardo Lopez went undefeated in 52 pro fights (there was one technical draw with Rosendo Alvarez, whom Lopez beat in an immediate rematch). Lopez, who retired in 2001, never lost a fight in his life, amateur or pro, and never won a questionable decision. Although he was a better fighter in every respect than Floyd Mayweather, no case has ever been presented that he was the greatest fighter of all time, and none should be. Lopez always held that Julio Cesar Chavez was Mexico’s finest fighter. Using Mayweather’s standard of measure, there’d be an argument that Chavez, when he was 87-0, really was the greatest fighter of all time. Presumably that would have stopped being true the moment he lost to Frankie Randal a couple of fights later, again using the Floyd Mayweather barometer for determining greatness.

Sounds way too common for boxings big fights. I saw the fight after the fact, would have been very disappointed paying $20 dollars to watch that. If Mayweather didn't have such a reach advantage it could have been a good fight. But as it was, he didn't even really have to try because he had the accuracy and speed to keep the other guy at arms length. zzzzzzzzzz

 Do you actually believe the shit you say??? Nobody was a "fool" for actually expecting a fight - maybe for expecting it to live up to the hype though... I'd be willing to bet anything that YOU thought the "fight" would be more exciting between two of All-Time Greats...If not then you're the fool.

I bought it on the hope it would be a great fight. I knew it wouldn't live up to the hype.

My expectations in the fight were for Floyd to get on his bicycle and point Manny to death (which is exactly what he did).

So why would you spend your hard earned money on an expected garbage fight?

To be honest, it was also exactly what I expected, but I still watched in the hope I would be wrong and it ended up being a great fight.
Everyone watches some sports in the hope it will be thrilling or the underdog comes out the victor.

BigCatDaddy 05-04-2015 09:50 AM

Marquez kicked the shit out of Manny 3 of their 4 fights and FM kicked the shit out of Marquez so I'm not sure why anyone expected Manny to put up much of a fight.

Because I love boxing and had a slim hope that it would have been a great fight.
