Last night I tried something completely new. I took three center cut boneless loin chops and decided to do a curried coconut milk sauce to saute them in.
I first browned them on each side for 3-4 minutes. Then I turned down the heat and added some minced garlic to the pan with a little oil and butter. Once browned I added the coconut milk mixture I created. It was one can of coconut milk, about 2-3 tablespoons of yellow curry powder, one teaspoon of turmeric, some onion powder, chili powder, and a little sesame oil. I whisked it all together then poured it into the pan on low heat. Added the pork chops back in and cooked for about 12-14 minutes. I also did steak fries in cast iron pot that came out super crispy on the outside and light inside. Lastly did a bagged salad mix. The flavor was incredible and I even impressed my GF. :D |

That ravioli sounds like a dessert/pasta fusion deal after reading the description.

I'm not used to it either. They're kind of a pain to take, making everyone wait and all while I position things just so, then uploading. Those were leftovers. I just left the table set up and repositioned and plated the food for the shot. Only one person to feed then. |

My first ever trip to this place...
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...9aa7ba676d.jpg I have to say, I don't really understand all the slobbering love fest that follows this place everywhere it opens. Sure, it's a good burger and fries. But I'd take Five Guys and/or Smashburger over In & Out every day and twice on Sundays. |

I'm basing my judgment solely on the quality of the burger. Five Guys beats the pants off In-N-Out. |

They make a fine burger, I just get overwhelmed by their options. I'm kind of a classic burger guy, so many of their options don't appeal to me. But what I've had there was fine. |

I had been talking with friends in line, not paid attention (for content), and did a "the same as him" deal, and I ended up with a $14 lunch. As with the 5-Guys here in Lee's Summit it was terrible. The joint seems to pride themselves in burgers that are so greasy they you feel sick for the rest of the day, and while they give you more fries than you ever really wanted, they too are so greasy you can only eat a few so you toss 60-70% of them like I did (and 3-4 bites of the burger). I never really complain about the price of food since you're making a choice to pay it before you buy it, but I'll say this 5-Guys is way overpriced for the food they serve. It'll be a long time before I go back optionally. THEY are a great argument for McDonald's or Burger King, at least at the latter two you have a dollar menu you can choose from to feel sick the rest of the day. But in the end the whole experience was my fault because I walked in, I picked the meal (without reading the menu board and doing a little math), I paid for it, then ate some of the shit they brought to the counter - I had options and I should have stopped/left at any point before putting that crap in my mouth. I lost in almost every way you can... |
Wife is making coq au vin tonight.

I had the most awesome shrimp & grits last night. It was a very unusual version where the shrimp were in a bourbon maple sauce with bacon bits that was out-of-this-world. The grits were very creamy with cheese, but without a strong cheese taste. Just the creamiest thickest I think I ever had—not at all soupy.
The salad had real green leaves with cukes, tomatoes and a big pile of grated carrot and some red/purple onion. The dressing was a citrus poppy seed vinaigrette that was also out of this world. My SO had fish and chips with a good thick white fish in the middle and not something buried and disguised in a thick batter. Green beans that maintained their green color, showing this place didn't serve over-cooked deficient veggies. The cole slaw was uber fresh too. So the place cooks healthy. I liked that. I was nervous at first about what I would be getting as it was a casual place and new. I am definitely gonna have to go back there again. I didn't bring my camera to this new restaurant as it was a spur of the moment decision to eat out after some surprise company here yesterday afternoon. |

Cottage cheese in lasagne—eeeeeeeoooooooooooowwwww!
It's just as easy to toss in some ricotta. Just whip in an egg and some mozzarella and parm. |
Quote:
i like cottage cheese much better, maybe you should try 1/2 and 1/2 Id rather do a mix of cottage cheese and something else than ricotta - like shredded jack/moz seriously ricotta sucks...try a mixture of cottage cheese and shredded colby instead of ricotta next lasagna you wont be sorry * see even YOU admit you have to 'whip in egg and moz & parm' to make ricotta taste good....! try cottage some time., or a mix of cottage and colby..plus its a bit healthier as well |
Quote:
I agree. Cottage cheese in lasagna is nasty. Ricotta. And yes, I've tried cottage cheese in lasagna - I grew up eating it that way. Though I never do "quick" lasagna, so if I'm going to do the work, I go all out and make a béchamel these days. Far, far superior to ricotta or cottage cheese. |
