And the Hank/Cristobal thing has run its course as well. The show was so great in season 1, still very good in season 2, but it's pretty much on fumes at this point. It needs to be done. |

Jalapeño Poppers for the table please. |
Yeah - watched the first 2 episodes and there's just not much meat left on the bone here.
Oh well - nothing lasts forever. |
Barry has taken a Breaking Bad turn, it seems. Bleakness features heavily.
|
Anyone heard anything about this?
I absoultely loved Winslet in Mare of Easttown. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i6bS2wMjI7o" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I’m on season 5 of Bosch. God it’s really good!

BEEF was perhaps the best thing Netflix has done.
|
I'll add Barry to the list
Just binged watched seasons 1- 3. What a wild show. |
Spoiler!
Snowfall's series finale was on this past week |
Beef on Netflix was pretty damn good... my wife is giving it a 10/10. I would say a 9/10.

Maybe it’s known to others and I’m not aware but I just noticed Netflix now has season 6 of Better Call Saul available.
We don’t get AMC so this is the greatest day. |
I started the Diplomat on Netflix.
I'm a bit of Keri Russell dude. I really really liked The Americans, and this had a bit of that feel. I'm typically not much for political thrillers, but this one hooked me. I was all in on almost all the characters. There wasn't much that fell flat. The UK PM kind of did, but they pulled him back in a bit. I might be off base, but they did a really nice job of presenting high level operators processing quickly. It's one thing to say, this character is a good foreign policy mind. It's quite another to actually make it feel organic. It was really good. Moreover, they didn't hamfist shit together. Some of the timeframes feel unnecessarily constrained, but nothing feels dumb or forced. Big thing is the characters are all compelling. And maybe more impressive, is both sides of every argument made at least some sense, even if it goes against the narrative of the protagonist. They did a really good job with all the characters. And they also did a nice job of not trying to tie these dudes to caricatures of real political figures. The president is kind of supposed to be a Biden type, but they changed a lot, but still made him an interesting and compelling character. The UK PM is supposed to be a bit of a Boris Johnson type, but they did a good job of separating the character from the public person. It was really good IMO. And I'm still a Keri Russell guy... It's worth a click. https://imgur.com/zUkmYo0 |

I've been told by a few people to watch Jury Duty through Amazon Freevee because it is hilarious. The setup: everything about the lawsuit (the judicial officers, other jurors, etc) is fake, except for one innocent guy who believes it is real.

Must Watch Series
I have finally gotten around to The Wire. Almost done with season 1. I know gets a ton of praise and definitely hasn’t disappointed. Definitely the kind of show you are glad to have never seen until you start watching it.

It's the only multi-season show that I've ever really re-watched. |

I just watched the episode with Weebo (spelling?) and his shocked reaction popular gif. That was hilarious and weird seeing the original. I had no idea where that gif came from until seeing it there but pretty funny having seen it hundreds of times before this.
And yes, this show is amazing in every facet. Lots of familiar actors I had no idea were in TV. But this below video showed up on my YouTube Abe is what finally got me to commit to watching it. It talks about the care they took in being realistic and all of the primary sources and experiences the production team had with the content and city and even I guess launching some acting careers for real people turned actors. https://youtu.be/tlYDCuJ-c8s |
Wee-bey! One of the things about The Wire is that you love the "bad" guys, often as much or more as the so called good ones.
Interested to see how you handle the switch during Season 2. It's jarring for a lot of people as it seems everyone you got familiar with the first season is put on the backburner and the story makes a strong pivot. Big picture though, it's all connected and important. |

I STRONGLY recommend you watch again from S1 E1 and soak it all in. :thumb: By S1 E7 or E8, you will not be able to stop watching. |

This was actually the case for me a few years back. I think watched the first two episodes and quit but I realize now I didn’t fully understand the depth and complexity that it was going to be going for. |
FROM has been a pretty good series. Season two just started.

You ever been called Boo-Boo the Fool?

Welcome to Wrexham is a very polished documentary of sorts. Really helps that Rob and Ryan are entertaining as all get out. Rob's really got that dog in him when it comes to business acumen.

I really enjoyed "The Last Ship" on HBO Max. It's been around a while (014-018)
Spoiler!
I found no reference to it when searching this thread, but that could be my lack of searching skills. |
Holy shit Barry is back this season. They've gone right back to the same tone that seasons 1 and 2 featured, nailing that juxtaposition of comedy vs. serious setting.
"We have this room for another houuuur". I died. |
Quote:
The Last Ship has none of that. There are the good guys and the bad guys and it's pretty obvious from the jump who is who. No heel turns to speak of, unnecessary twists. Just good ol' American horsepower kicking some ass. It's pretty brainless entertainment but I mostly enjoyed it. |
Quote:
And I don't see how any red blooded American Male could not be a 'Keri Russell guy'. If I ever find out the Americans used a stunt ass, I'm gonna be awfully bummed out because...dayum. |
Taking a run at The Last Kingdom. Man that's a slog. And the pacing is somehow simultaneously dog-slow and lightning fast.
I mean 5 episodes in he'll have gone from an 8 year old second in line saxon heir to an adult Dane warrior back to a saxon elder who went from dating his childhood 'co-slave' to married to some fringe nobility to a father and then divorced. I mean damn guys. How are you gonna coax 5 seasons and a movie out of this? The problem is that 90% of it seems to happen offscreen. On screen there have been like 3 critical conversations and a couple of battles. Then a lot of horseriding. I don't know if its actually any good - I just find the subject matter interesting. |

I did find that later in the series, they injected a lot of new twists/characters that made it very interesting to the point I had a hard time turning it off for the day. In fact, early on in the series I was concerned the plot may have been a result of the recent pandemic. It is right in the wheelhouse of what I enjoy, as Sci Fi, Gore and police shows have no interest for me. Of course, being a Navy vet probably has some serious impact on my interest level. :thumb: Also, the timetable of when it was filmed/produced, was prior to a lot of industry requirements for diversity, sexual and racial issues we see in the latest stuff that is often a turn off for this old fart. |
Quote:
If you divorce yourself from the actual historical figures, it's pretty good. At least to the extent the characters became compelling. Ultimately, I ended up really giving a shit about the characters and the (historically inaccurate) story. And the battle scenes are good. Really good. Worth the wait. In short I came for the assling insults, stayed for the characters. |

So I think it may be picking up a little steam... Will this have sufficient gratuitous nudity? It's been very sparse to this point... |

want to get caught up as I really like it. Another show that contains a lot of originality. |
Yeah - The Citadel is good shit.
A) Stanley Tucci rocks B) Priyanka Chopra is just laughably attractive. The premise is just so ridiculously over the top but there's a slight twist on it that is pretty damn good. |
Oh, and I don't think Richard Madden is a very good actor but this is an audition reel for the next James Bond for him. Right age, right look, can do athletic and suave.
I don't know if he has the acting chops for it, but it's not like all the Bonds have been great actors. This seems like it might be a no brainer. |
Quote:
So yeah, ****ing put his ass as Bond and make movies and shit. |
Catching up on the Presige TV podcasts with Bill Hader and they do a weekly episode recap.
Yeah - Hader HATES Barry. "He's thoughtless and selfish and just not very bright. He sees things and he acts without considering how those actions haunt people..." The only silver lining I see here is that he seems to dislike Fuches even more and blames Fuches leaning into Barry's issues, exacerbating them and using him for his own purposes once he realized he had a father-figure level influence over Barry. So it may end up Fuches that ends up with a big shitburger to eat, but I still don't see a happy ending for Barry.
Spoiler!

I don't know that it is a "must watch", but Sanctuary on Netflix is another bizarro Japanese series about Sumo wrestling. And Season one ending in a cliffhanger indicates there is a season two. It was fascinating, but might not fit a lot of people's taste.

That show is beyond bad though, imo Its like Lost meets some awkward made for TV Stephen King adaptation aired on the WB during the 2000s |
Really good last episode of Barry, this show is just so well executed. Just wish Hader didn't feel the need to castrate his main character.
|
Quote:
I mean Jim Moss hasn't really hidden his intentions at any point and Barry has no allies left. Clearly Hank and Fuches saving the day would be forced as hell. But yeah, Hader's loathing of his character has really made landing the plane here a bit of a chore. EDIT: Unfortunately I forgot that Hader isn't doing his after-show interviews anymore 'in solidarity with the screenwriters strike'. That's a bummer as I'd like to get a little more insight as to his thinking this season. |

And honestly it'd be a little disappointing to me. I mean hell, I'd have been just fine with the last scene of this episode being the last scene of the entire series. Jim deserves that moment. |

Muppets Mayhem on Disney. Some of the better comedy writing I've seen and the cameos are great. Plenty of humor for adults that finds a way to keep it kid friendly. Perfect example is an episode where the band goes on an acid like trip from 30 year old expired marshmallows.
|
Ghosts of Beirut on Showtime. One episode released thus far. True story.
Homeland-ish vibes. Looks like this will be really enjoyable. |
Anyone watching White House Plumbers?
