Can't believe that fish bent the **** out of my clasp. God ****ing dammit.

I have had them straighten out a ton of them.
IF I use one, which I prefer not to, but am also lazy, I use the heavy ones that are shaped like a footprint.

I took home six this day but could have had way more. I left because I planned to go back with my dad and sure enough that day we took home 16. Really good size ones too. Most about 12 inches with a few 13s and only a couple under 12 inches. I love those isolated spots on the rivers above reservoirs.

Yeah, I like to get down with Crappie.

Rasputin 03-26-2018 01:32 AM

Finally got out too the lake about 7:20pm & I was up nearly 28 hours cuz I worked Saturday night from 7pm to 10am and after work had to load up and took me longer than planned I still had to go to Walmart in Hays then a grocery Mart in Russell got me steak and eggs for morning breakfast. I must of zonked out for about five hours. It's now 2:30am and windy as **** and little drizzle.

The wind is blowing but I moved to another spot that will be better for me get out of it for casting. I still have to jig up.

Rasputin 03-26-2018 04:10 AM

It's 41 degree but I'm not cold got my IcebUrg coat on keeps me nice and warm.

I'd be surprised if I got anything with temps cold still but it's good to get out here finally. Had to call in last night I was jonesing hard to go fishing. Now I'm out here and it's the best drug out there when you get a bite at night what a rush.

I'll be here for at least next three or four nights I took two vacation time and have two rest nights I just couldnt wait any longer I had a fever so I called in. A fever for fishing is reasonable excuse to miss work I just didn't mention the fishing part. :D

I maybe slightly cold but at least I'm not hungry I fixed me four large (precooked) tasty shrimp a thin cut breakfast pork chop and an egg with cheese. I got a square copper skillet it's marvelous no sticking and it fits perfectly on my portable butane Coleman stove. This is the life for me.

Fish have not been active so I've been just taking it easy but I'm just glad to be here. I'm only using one pole with liver and shrimp but I have a three pole license. what is cool this year a license is good for 365 days a year so it doesn't cut off at the first of the year it's good the date of next year you purchased it.

I didn't expect catch anything but never know. Temps need go up another twenty degrees to do any good.

I have searched abroad and researched the googles, and have found my ultimate fishing destination this year... gonna be checking it out for the first time this weekend

Its about 35 miles from my place, but is isolated as hell along the Illinois river

The nearest town is about 15 miles upriver, and currently has a population of 30 or so souls... some deft map reading has given me what I need to get to the perfect spot at the base of the river valley cliffs

Its really beautiful country for Illinois, the river valley hills remind me a LOT of Missouri... its pretty rugged, eagles flying around and shit... cant wait!

From there it will only be a short hike to the campsite I'm setting up, and since its all public land there will be no hassles... and thats IF anyone actually finds the camp, which I intend to make quite difficult

Gonna set one of these up, and finally once and for all, have my own little place to stay where the fishing pressure is non-existent... the river there should be about as pristine as its ever gonna be

It wont be nearly as fancy as what this 'ultimate woman' has put together since it'll be a summer hideaway, but you get the idea... already have the tarp, a hank of 550 cord, a few good nails and a hatchet to make it all happen

Went to Pomme De Terre Tuesday. Caught a bunch of crappie, a couple nice Bass (17 in.).

Funniest damn thig was how it played out. While me and my fishing buddy were using the same bait, minnows on a bobber, same depth, fishing the exact same place, I caught crappie after crappie. He caught Drum after Drum.ROFL
I was ROFL my ass off. After about 4 hours he finally started catching crappie but it was funny as hell.

We tore up some crappie on Truman today. I was 2 shy of a limit. The first one I caught was a 15" monster. I also had a couple in the 13-14" range and my wife had a 14 incher as well (get your minds out of the gutter).

Easily the best day I've ever had there in regard to the quality of the fish. Great day.

Yeah, they were all just a few feet off the bank. The best bite was on the steeper banks. We were using minnows about 2 feet below the bobber. I did get a couple on a jig under a bobber when we ran out of minnows.

More poor wife only put 5 in the livewell while I had 13. It was just my day. She caught a bunch, just more dinks than I did.

Took my five year old on her second boat trip last weekend. Our first try two years ago didn’t work out. She freaked out being on the boat. She said she was ready this time. Woke her up at 530am and off we went. She didn’t catch any fish on her little kids pole but almost mastered casting it.

I’d catch something and if it didn’t feel big I’d let her reel it in. She ended up reeling in six, four saugeye and two white bass. She went five hours on the boat and didn’t complain once. Pretty awesome day for me. Saugeye must have been spawning or finishing as we caught close to 15 mainly in the same flat area.

So I called in last night and for Tuesday night to start my two weeks kayak fishing extravaganza on lake Wilson or wherever I may go.

Got off work @ 7am I've been putting in shitload of hours for several months just for this I've sacrificed nights off so I can do more of what I want longer period although it's been a rough start and took me longer than I wanted to get out here but I crammed my HHR of shit I needed and loaded my red Kayak on top. It was nice enough when I got out here but the weather stormed like a mother ****er and so far I think I hooked a big ass ****ing turtle but ended up breaking the line that mother ****er cock sucking son of a whore bitch **** turtle. He is lucky he didn't come to shore because I have a turtle buster knife to **** him up with. I hate turtles.

How is it when trying to land a fish? I don't know if I'd be stable while trying to bend over and grab a fish.

Much easier than I thought and the boiancy (sp?) Much better than than I expected also and it's not like you have to lean over the edge to grab it like a boat I mean you can grab it right from surface.

Kayak fishing is best thing ever I regret not doing it sooner. If you're even thinking about it I'd sayso it.

Mine cost $169 on sale at Dunham's sports and it's the best investment I've ever made.

I find it very eloquent.
When I catch a fish my rod hand is the right. Steer the fish to the left of the kayak, grab and boom, you landed a fish.

I went out kayak fishing right before dark Sunday at the lake I live on. The park had been busy with fisherman all day so my hopes of catching fish were low.
In the 45 minutes I fished I landed 9 Bass all above 14'. All top water and all near the banks. It was freaking explosive.
You just don't get days like that very often.

A couple years back, a work buddy lent me the use of his cabin on a private, small 8 acre lake and he had a peddle kayak

Gotta say it took some getting used to landing fish out of it, but damned if it wasnt awesome to quietly peddle into a little cove and get exactly where you want to be just coasting into the spot with no peddling... sneak in on those fish like a ninja

Ah yes turtles, those little bastards have stolen more bait from me than I can recall... its particularly bad at the local lake, they've become so trained by the bank beaters out there, that you'll see 2-3 at a time slowly cruising back and forth at roughly max casting range

Just waiting for you to dare try getting something past them

Gotta say it took some getting used to landing fish out of it, but damned if it wasnt awesome to quietly peddle into a little cove and get exactly where you want to be just coasting into the spot with no peddling... sneak in on those fish like a ninja

Ah yes turtles, those little bastards have stolen more bait from me than I can recall... its particularly bad at the local lake, they've become so trained by the bank beaters out there, that you'll see 2-3 at a time slowly cruising back and forth at roughly max casting range

Just waiting for you to dare try getting something past them

Almost every fish I caught this weekend was within 2-3 feet of shore, they were apparently hiding in the shade of riprap... what was your topwater lure?

If only that were possible at this lake, its far too close to town, crowded and regulated

You're not truly 'out in the woods' there at all

Now that’s awesome. Great pic.

In for another storm brewing I can't leave cuz don't want risk getting stuck on muddy road and get hit by the storm.

This is going be fun & or really suck.

It has been an awful fishing season for me. I’ve made it out twice. We’ve had to cancel several times due to storms. We can only fish on weekends. It will be nice out all week but when the weekend comes a storm will arrive.

Don't know where your fishing, but Bass are late spawning here, so they are typically near the shore during spawn.
I fish with a fly rod and tie Frog patterns using deer hair. I goop them up with some floatant. Let this hit the water, then follow it by a tug so the bass fly dives under water then rises when it rest. I try to have the fly make a "Splooge" Noise on the dive, this seems to grab the Bass attention.

My dad is from there so im very familiar with the area. I ask because there aren't a ton of kayak-ish waters around there aside from what I listed in my previous post.

OrvalCes 06-04-2018 07:37 AM

Out of curiosity, what brand and model of kayak do you guys have?

Guess so much for Kayaking for this guy o.n this trip. Holy shit that was more than I bargained for. I underestimated the river and the rocks were assholes. So my kayak is against rocks and the current was too much for me to get in out that time

I was a human pinball in a pinball machine but at least I had fun but I conceded to the river and has to walk 3sh miles to the destination where my friend was waiting to pick me up.

Holy Shitballs that was nuts. Now I need a new kayak to do it again.

LMAO, did you put it in Rio Grande? That river is much too treacherous in the "Box" for casual kayaking and they're still getting high water from snow melt. If you head way up north to the "Wild and Scenic Rivers" area near the Colorado border the water is smoother, but at this time of year that might be difficult too.

That's like inflatable rubber raft water, not kayak...

Damn, that sucks.
Kinda surprised you'd jump right into white water after only just starting kayaking. As you've found out, not a good idea.
Glad you're OK and only your pride......and kayak were hurt.

Actually, it was really dumb (if he went where I think he did).

Dude, did you even research it before hopping in?

This movie was shot on May 21, so conditions were most likely similar to what you experienced, right?

From the road didn't look white water and it was shallow torain I didn't think it would be nearly that bad and I fought big waves on Lake Wilson with my kayak and thought to myself it couldn't be that bad. Wrong lol. On the flip side had I started just three miles is a location for kayaking taking it easy it would have been much better for me.

I underestimated the river that is all.

I didn't think it was that bad but bad enough and a few times I'd let my kayak go in front of me. It was a bitch to get the water out on the sides of the river. It was nuts. Probably up three top five dangerous or stupid things I've tried. But nevertheless it was fun.

loochy 06-05-2018 11:10 AM

So it was the Rio.....LMAO
