It just might be. You aren't exactly laying out great ways they should otherwise spend the money. Strength of this draft is by far on defense, DL especially. So is there not potentially some logic in building the roster that way? It's not open and shut. Only thing that remains certain is they have to nail the draft, and by all accounts, their best shot is taking defenders early this year with a RB or two as well. |

So if we're squeezing it down to an odds game, the odds are we fill out the best possible starting lineup this year by paying for offense and drafting defense. |

Even younger guys man…Josh Sweat only had double-digit sacks in 2022 when everyone around him was amazing, Milton Williams is “good but not great”. They can afford a LT and another big contract. If that contract isn’t Trey, then it’s not valuable for anymore, bc goddamn man paying any of these other FA’s similar money is not anywhere near as valuable as paying it to Trey Smith. |

It's also possible that they do both. |
You aren't going to see me arguing much about this one way or the other.
But can you just imagine if the Chiefs left Smith walk, don't solve LT, AND we don't have our OL continue to stay healthy all season? Imagine a scenario where Kingsley isn't quite as good as Smith, LT is still an issue, and an old Joe Thuney has another significant injury. Mahomes is getting hit a ton. Would everybody screaming not to pay Smith give Veach a pass because he did exactly what they wanted? |
I don't hate paying Smith (don't love it either), but if you have 4 of 4 OL all making over $20 million you are going to have to do a hell of a lot better than what we saw last year which means fixing LT. If they can fix LT (to some degree) and keep the rest of the OL intact for another year then great, but they're going to have a lot of criticism coming their way (and deservedly so) if the OL doesn't do a 180 this coming season with how much money is being spent there.
Highest paid players at nearly every OL position, two up and coming WRs, Travis Kelce coming back another year, hopefully adding more talent at RB, HOF baby Goat at QB, HOF one of the best offensive head coaches of all time, there is no reason why this offense shouldn't be top 5 in 2025 with a lot more explosive plays if they're not decimated by injury again. |

We have no clue who may or may not be available via trade etc. You could also go ahead and extend some of your premier young players not at positions easily filled, like CB and DE. |

I'm just trying to show how we feel about this kind of shit can change quick once the bullets are flying. |
I just can't get myself to care either way. I wouldn't pay him over $20M AAV but if they do, oh well.
