That's why I said the bye was key to getting him back, though.

You don't typically tinker with your defensive backfield mid-run in the post-season.

If we had to play next week in the post-season, I'm not sure he'd have been ready. And if he wasn't and we won that game, I don't think Andy would make the switch.

He won't be needed against Pitt/Houston, but he'll have to be a part of it, IMO. Because I'd be a little surprised to just see him dropped into a game against Buffalo or Baltimore.

If Spags didn't ask for ya, you ain't playing. And Spags didn't ask for Nelson.

I really liked the idea (of both Nelson and Uche) but it seems that Spags simply has zero use for either guy. I think he's wrong, but he knows a lot more about this than I do so I guess I just gotta shot up and dribble or something...

Yeah, can't complain when this is just plain good news, but...man I'd have liked to see more of Uche and Nelson. Really think the former could've rounded out the DL perfectly.

Spags seems to have no use at all for one trick ponies, or, more specifically, one trick ponies who won’t even try to learn new tricks.

I mean, he had Mike Pennel running his ass off in coverage against the Steelers.

LMAO

I somehow missed that. I really hope that's just some crazy shit he wanted to put on tape for other teams.

Well this is unbelievably and unexpected great news.

My word! This is all coming together nicely.
As Wazu said...TO THE ****ING SHIP!

When it comes to good players "dropping them in" isn't a problem. Because they are better than their replacements. Watson was having an all-pro type of season statistically so I think they would be willing to wait for him tbh.

But here's the thing - Uche isn't one-trick.

He's been a stand-up OLB in his time at NE. The guy has played in coverage plenty and been just fine in the role.

As a rusher he has one real trick, but he WILL show an effective bull rush at times that he throws on the back of the speed rush.

I just think this is a measurables thing with Spags and I don't understand it. The things he could do with the zone blitzes, etc... are MUCH more substantial with Uche at DE with his coverage experience than they would be with Danna, Pennel, etc...

And you could even have him do some crazy rotational stuff with Chenal where both guys stand up, one comes down to rush and the other goes into coverage and teams can't diagnose which.

It just seemed like he didn't feel like taking the time mid-season to incorporate the skill-set.

But to act like Uche is just some Bruce Irvin guided missile out there doesn't give him enough credit. He can do more than that.

Uche refusing to line up inside (or making a stink about it, as some said he did) is honestly the moment that’d make me think Spags would cut him loose. I think he does these things (lining up Uche on the inside, putting Pennel in coverage, etc), not because they’ll work, but because he wants his defense to be as flexible and unpredictable as possible.

George Pickens syndrome

These guys aren’t young anymore. Marcus Peters was the last straw for Andy. Spags and Andy just don’t want these ****ing assholes anymore. The last time Uche played he was not happy lining up inside. He was jawing at Omenihu. No wonder NE was selling him cheap.

I think it depends on a lot of factors but Verderame and Derrick have alluded to Uche wanting things his way so he can rush outside and work for a contract.

They don’t want to deal with it anymore and I don’t blame them

Uche has never been known as a malcontent and frankly he SHOULDN'T be happy lining up inside. It's stupid to have stuck him in there (especially if the players freelanced it around him) because he's not at all equipped for that.

If Reid goes down into the box and tells Chenal to get back to safety, Chenal would be understandably irked by it. And it would be equally foolish.

Why shouldn't Uche and Spags be in alignment here? Uche SHOULD want to rush from the outside and frankly Spags should want him doing it.

Nobody says give Uche 50 snaps. But 10-12 snaps/gm in obvious passing downs SHOULD be Uche out wide. Instead we had him on the bench while Malik Herring was taking snaps against TB as they were driving the field to tie the game and potentially win it.

Uche may well be frustrated -- he probably should be.
