So I found this movie the other day. Never heard of it when it came out. But I was pleasantly surprised. Rollins was awesome. Dark comedy horror. The movie has a few flaws, but overall it was really entertaining.

Half way through it and holy shit it sure seems like a rail job

Watched Jason Stathams Wild Card on the plane.Decent time waster if you're flying but it's as simple as a movie can get. He basically kicks every bad guys ass regardless of how many there are or what the situation is. I don't think he even gets touched the whole movie.

Watched Alpha Dog, it's a little older, but was a good movie.. Not sure if it's based on a true story, but was a good watch.

ThaVirus 12-31-2015 10:40 AM

The one with Justin Timberlake?

That was a good movie, IIRC.

Went on a binge over Xmas

Star Wars - Stunning execution, but a little too much of a nostalgic revisiting than a stunning new work. Seemed like they were ticking off fan service beats more than telling an innovative new story. More applause for 'hey, there's that again' than 'wow that was surprising.' Reminded me of an Eagles or Journey reunion concert. Also, not entirely his fault, but I can't yet see Adam Driver without the mental image of him ass ****ing Lena Dunham on Girls. That's a big magilla of a brain scar to overcome.

Bridge of Spies - workmanlike, classic Spielberg. Hanks delivers. Didn't quite capture the tension of the actual events, despite overplaying the drama of the Red Scare. Maybe I'm just a few years too young, but the Cold War told through the tears of children watching 'stop, drop and roll' has never resonated with me. There's so much more drama inherent in the fears of the adults facing espionage embarrassments than kids being terrorized by annihilation. Raylance's Abel was the quiet star in his dogged resignation along with Hanks. For some reason, Amy Ryan playing a 50's housewife made me sad. She can be so much more dynamic than Spielberg gave her to work with.

Inside Out - Didn't catch all of it, but what I caught was very solid, and all the rug rats were entranced. Surprised so many of them made it this far without catching it. Very innovative and moving.

Mad Max - Conceptually not my cup of tea, but very expertly executed. Lots of memorable visuals, and a straightforward propulsive narrative. Liked it more than I expected to [punk apocalypse is not my scene], but not the 'best of 2015' so many have touted it as. Perhaps more accurately 'best version of this movie possible.'

Hateful Eight - Disappointed. More on this in the H8ful thread. Too much like a stage play, or campfire story time. Maybe if all the stories were as compelling as Walken's 'wristwatch up my ass' speech in Pulp Fiction, QT could have gotten away with so much of the movie being exposition. But this struck me as more 'Four Rooms' than Django or Kill Bill.

Deberg_1990 01-01-2016 03:26 PM

watched 'Sicario' the other day.

really well done. Intense, and brings up tough questions without being too preachy.

Great stuff.

KCUnited 01-01-2016 05:56 PM

I thought The Big Short was just OK. It's a good story and it's well acted, I just hate that type of film style. Like when they pause the scene and the guy talks straight to the camera.

Watched 11:14 earlier today. Is about 8 years old, but was a good story. Def had some plot holes but I'm pretty good about not picking them apart and just going with the movie. Enjoyed it, and the whole movie I was thinking the Cheri character was Jamie Lynn Spears and it wasn't. Crazy cuz that girl looks a lot like Britney.

Miles 01-01-2016 10:44 PM

Watched a random one on Netfix this afternoon - Flame and Citron that was rather good. About two Dutch resistance guys in WWII.

BucEyedPea 01-02-2016 11:46 AM

Saw "Joy" over New Year's and don't understand what all the Academy Award hoopla is for. Good movie but nothing of AA quality tho' JL always acts well.

Is about Joy Mangano who invented the Miracle Mop and later other products for the home. I coulda' waited for this to come out on DVD. I did look up her Huggable Hangers and am sold though.

displacedinMN 01-02-2016 02:24 PM

Creed was good. A little long.

I like Michael B. Jordan from Friday night lights. He is a good actor and must be a great athlete too.

A bit fragmented at times. Rocky has to face a few demons too. Rocky has to be a teacher, mentor.

Fight scenes are very real.

It was pretty cool. I think with a bigger budget and a little more work it could have been a cult classic. Rollins' dark humor was just perfect though.

It looks to be a silly, funny look [in the vein of Raising Arizona and O'Brother Where Art Though, perhaps some Barton Fink, though not that absurdist] at the 'golden age' of cinema making.

The first trailer hints more at the plot.

Watched "13 Hours" last night and thought it was extremely well done.

The acting was excellent as was the dialogue, nothing corny or clunky, and the action was extremely well done and incredibly intense... but not since Schindlers List have I been so furious after watching a movie.

There was sooo much help available nearby, and yet none of them were ordered in to aid our people. Not only that, but when it was all over our people werent even taken OUT OF THE COUNTRY by America... they had to leave on Libyan Airlines.

What a disgusting debacle, every American should be required to see it, but hey...

"at this point, what does it matter!!?".

You should be furious Easy 6 at the decisions our leaders in DC that could have changed the events of that day.

I remember learning the news of when it happened, Sept. 11 2012. That day alone should tip off people that it was a terrorist attack. Had Obie and Hillary had done the right thing and sent in a team to rescue them I believe Hillary would be elected the next president. But because they chose the lie and cover-up it has come back to haunt them and Hillary particularly.

This administration would've looked strong on foreign policy instead it is like dragging a ball and chain around her reminding them what kind of a person she is running for office. Enough of my political rant I'm going to see it soon though for sure.

Took the wife to see The Boy this weekend. It is more of a thriller/suspense than a horror movie. It was ok, not as good as I was hoping, but few seldom are. But there was a good preview for a movie called The Witch. Looks promising, and unlike most recent horror films.

I really hope this delivers. I am enthralled with the concept and am hoping for something truly dark and bonkers.

On the concept alone, I'm as geeked for this as any movie of any genre in quite a while. But I'm tempering expectations in the resignation that like so much else, it'll turn out to be half-assed weirdness. Has the potential to be up there with The Exorcist as an all time classic, but will it pay off.

-King- 01-25-2016 05:17 PM

Last two horror movies I've seen have been terrible. The Boy and The Forest weren't scary at all. Studios wanting all their movies to be PG13 has really ruined the horror movie genre.

Silock 01-26-2016 11:52 PM

Just watched "Uncanny" on Netflix. I think I might like it better than Ex Machina.

frankotank 01-27-2016 11:54 AM

reading S Kings newest short story collection now.....Bazaar of Bad Dreams....
pretty good.

at the beginning of each story he has an intro. in one intro he mentions I Bury The Living (1958) as his fav movie but wishes they would have pursued the implied ending.....well...to the end. so I was curious and googled it and you can watch the whole movie on youtube. it's like 70 minutes long. I watched. I understand his comment now.

I pretty much do NOT like super old movies. they are just so...boring. but this one had premise that not only sounded just like an SK story...but it was intriguing. you just had to see what's gonna happen.

Just finished Black Mass, in a word... excellent

This was the kind of role that puts Depp back on the map, he's at his very best here... he really needs to leave the Wonkas and other weirdos alone for a while, he shines with heavy material like this

Theres a scene where he is having dinner with his FBI handler and the agents partner that rivals Pescis "whats so funny about me?" scene, must see viewing... "just sayin?"

And then it moves right into him scaring the hell outta the agents wife, again... killer

Then look at this cast...

Depp
Joel Edgerton
Benedict Cumberbatch
Peter Sarsgaard
Dakota Johnson
Kevin Bacon
Adam Scott

Depps best movie in a looong time

Sicario is a movie I recommend it has Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro and revolves mainly from the perspective from Emily Blunt's character.

A movie about the drug war along the Mexican border. It received decent scores on Rotten Tomatoes, a fly under the radar movie for me as I didn't hear anything about this movie before. Del Toro and Brolin were a treat to watch in it.

Think they're making another one not to sure. But they need to stop already the series should be done now.

I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane last Saturday, I gave it 8 out of 10 stars, pretty good flick. I had heard JJ Abrams say that this is not a Cloverfield 2, but does have a connection with the first flick. I won't say what that connection is, see the film for yourself. Abrams said he could see 5 Cloverfields all with a connection. I think since this was so low budget and it's done so well, they probably will make at least a #3. Very intense film, a lot of drama and great acting.

God's Not Dead was ridiculously nonsensical and just... bad.

I'd like to recommend a couple here - Fantastic Planet 1973 and Tourist Trap 1978.
