But I also don't want a cat that weighs 35lbs either. If he doesn't really eat dry food 2 cans is acceptable, you also have to notice if he's getting fat or maintaining a healthy weight. If you have a full blooded main coon he may end up at 3 or 4 cans and not be fat some of them get huge. |

Do you use IAMs for the wet food too? |
There's a lot of brands of wet cat food. The good stuff costs more, but is much more healthy. Sometimes Mr. Kitty doesn't like a particular kind of food, so may have to experiment a bit with what he will and won't eat. You can ask the folks at Pet Smart for advice, or your vet. Might be cheaper to order in food off amazon or chewy. Just avoid buying dirt cheap food. It's all bad quality. It's like feeding McDonalds every day to your cat.

We had a litter of boxers born March 17. My wife cried multiple times. Worried the poor guys wouldn't get homes.
Put them online and has people FIGHTING over them. 11 sold in 3 days. Easiest and best paying litter ever. |

I have a friend with some boxers, his biggest problem he has...is it hurts him how they don't live long. He was telling me once they start getting to 7-8 years old any time after that is "extra".

Heard from the lady who is fostering my kittens Tony G and Otis. They're still pretty small, so it's probably going to be around June 5th before they can come live with us. They look onery!

I'd love to have Otis. Wow.
My poor baby has a UTI and on special food which she won't eat because it tasted shitty. She can't pee without intense pain, pees very little and often. Augh. I'm mixing in some more flavorable food with it but fear this will delay healing the food provides, as will her pain and suffering. Poor girl. |

Kitties are getting bigger. They have to be 2 lbs for the vet to do the "fix." Then they can come live with me and Mrs. Bfish. Pics from today. The lady who is fostering them is really great. She's taken excellent care of Tony and Otis!

Not sure if this will work but it's the best I've got. He got in the middle of a shot as I was figuring out what to do with landscaping a few weeks ago. I got a new phone right before that and haven't transferred any pictures off the old one so I really don't have a better one.
Spoiler!
He clearly thought he heard something in the street/driveway. That dog just moves differently. You can see in the turn he kinda hunkers and pops his head up. Then he gets into his alert stance. Kids walk through our yard to go fishing and he has scared the piss right out of them. He looks like he just wants to stare a hole through you for a few seconds but if you don't overreact or be aggressive, he moves past it really quickly and wants to be your buddy. There's a woman who walks through the neighborhood with a golf club and I just want to tell her that she cannot hit that dog hard enough to hurt it and if she tries, she'll get her arm ripped off. I may have finally got a decent GIF in there, but I turned an 'iphone livephoto' into a GIF and if you catch that video right as he turns you can just see every muscle he has outlined in that back left leg. He's just athletic and powerful as hell. I kept the spoilered still image here after a few edits just in case you want the still view. GIF:
Spoiler!
And I'm still not sure I even like him. He feels compelled to bow up to dad about once a week just to see if it'll still get his ass kicked. It will. Most willful, high drive animal I have ever come into contact with. But the 2-yr old boy fell on him last weekend, he quickly let out a low growl before turning and seeing it was the boy and he stood up, rolled the kid off him and wagged his tail before we told him to walk away. 95% of the time he's in a good mood and just a great dog. And he's never actually bit (he mouthed me once and caught me completely off guard, got his whole mouth around my wrist, didn't so much as bruise anything and immediately ducked his head and laid on his side), but he can just be a grumpy little shit from time to time. I'm just REALLY opposed to 'correcting' a growl. That's how he communicates that he doesn't care for that and if you correct the growl, he'll end up lashing out without any sort of warning at all. You can't expect them to just be automatons that do what they're told - they're allowed a LITTLE agency. So long as he'll give a grumble and then just leave the spot he doesn't want to be in, I'm gonna keep allowing it. Never had to figure out how to deal with this sort of willful before so I'm still feeling my way through it. |
he's a good looking boy.
how much does he weigh? |
Quote:
Took a shot of him last night but he was just so amped up for dinner. I had him in a down while the kids had gone upstairs for a bath - dinner was over for us and he wasn't allowed to eat OR see his other people so he was just amped way up. Couldn't get him to stay still at all.
Spoiler!
His head's broader than his shoulders so I figure there's another growth spurt still to come that should get his proportions back in order. My labs always had an 'awkward teenager' stage where they were all heads and legs and I figure the Rotty is just behind 'em a bit due to the breed. |
For the first time in my life, I'm dogless.
My Angel, who I got a month after my brother died, passed away last fall. She was a Great Pyrenees / Lab mix. A great freaking dog. She was 14 years old. And then last week, out 16 year old chihuahua mix passed away. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Gy...-no?authuser=0 If anyone knows of a reputable person who may have lab/Great pyrennes mixes, please let me know /doubt the images shows up, lets see what happens. |

The little guy was given a few months to live 2 years ago because of kidney issues but the vet food they prescribed really helped him. You really never know how long they might last. And its all about that quality of life. Hope for the best for your presa. |
Yeah, pretty sure a growth spurt won't get my boy to where your girl is, then. That's a wide-ass dog and 10-12 months won't get him to that size.
I almost wonder if it isn't because I worry so much about joints. I always keep them on puppy food through about 18 months because I want those bones to develop pretty slowly to keep his joints healthy. And I keep my pups about 20% above the bottom of the 'recommended' weight range, still well within a healthy range but also a little below the median 'ideal' weight. The tuck he has in that still picture is the tuck I've tried to keep on him since about 6 months when I cut back his feeding to once a day (I let them have their fat puppy bellies for the first several months due to rapid early-life growth/energy needs). But if you try to slow grow them, I'm guessing eventually the growth hormones just slow quite a bit and by the time you get off puppy food onto stuff that doesn't try to slow their growth, they've kinda run out of fuel in that regard. Best theory I have really. But every other dog I've had has locked right into the middle of breed standard by adulthood and generally looked exactly like mom/pop. This one's just a little confounding to me. I don't imagine he'll even get as big as my big ol' blocky black lab is. He'll be somewhere between the two chocolate's that came before him - tall as the taller brother and as wide as the broader one. Those guys spent 10-12 (of 14 and 15) years locked between 72 and 75 lbs with really no vacillation. The Black lab is generally between 80 and 90 lbs. If Winston fills out to his build but another inch or two taller, he might creep to 100 when I forget to monitor his weight as well, but I'll probably try to keep him at about 90. Just not gonna be a truly large dog - which is probably okay because like I said here when I bought him - 130 lb dog would be fun but probably just a little more than I wanted anyway. |

But I've been damn pleased with his. Still a really nice contrast, very good symmetry and just about perfect sizes/shapes. |

Kitten update: We were supposed to bring Tony G and Otis T home today. They were taken to the vet on Wednesday to get "fixed." Vet gave all the kittens some anti-worm medicine, and it made Tony sick. so he couldn't have his surgery. So it's going to be another week before they come home. Nobody's stepped up to adopt their mama cat, and my wife is leaning on me to adopt her too. We'll see.

Welp, looks like table for three. Mrs B was very sad that Miss Tina the mama cat didn't have anybody who wanted her, and she was going to have to go back to the shelter after having all her kittens taken away. So we agreed to take her too. So she'll get a forever home with her two little boy cats. Many years ago, my tuxedo cat (Mama Cat) had three kittens in our woodpile. We found homes for the kittens quickly, but nobody wanted Mama Cat. We decided to keep her rather than turn her over to a shelter. She was the best little kitty and I loved her very much. So I hope Miss Tina will be a good mama, and I'm happy she'll get to live with two of her kittens.

Our Dog died a bit ago ,super chill dog. Named him after Micheal Schumacher when won his second to last World Championship in 2003. That pup "Schumi" lived 16 plus years. He was a Yorkie who went close to 18 lbs. My wife said he is a Yorkie "Bear". whatever that means. Frikin' dog was huge and loved to eat. He was also a bit of a smart arse.
Now I have a rabbit living under my back deck. I named it WTF. It is my current CP "pet". |

After a few days of tube feeding, she took a turn for the worst. She couldn't keep any food down. I was about 2 days away from having her put to sleep. I didn't feed her for a day. Then fed her a small amount, she kept it down. So I fed her a little bit again that night. Kept that down as well. After slowly increasing her food, I noticed she started eating her dry food. A month later, she seems fully recovered. She's back to playing fetch with me and has put on most of the weight she lost. Still don't know what was wrong. Just happy she's still with me and back to her normal self. Sent from my HD1907 using Tapatalk |

So what are everyone’s recommendations for puppy chewing and biting? I know it’s natural and they more than likely grow out of it. We’ve got a 9 week old lab and dude goes for hands and firearms like a ****ing shark. Doesn’t matter if we give him toys instead or not. I’ve tried all different kinds of toys too.

Young labs are like that from my limited experience. Sharp little teeth too. Obedience school.
|
We went through the Lab puppy experience. My fore arms will never be same after that. Scars all over. It takes time. Also recommend some schooling for the pup. Ours chilled a bit after going to puppy school.
|
He’s gotten better about it. Dude has been amazing with potty training though.

We are, apparently, going to become a dog shelter here at the farm. This is Buddy, he is old, he was hit by a car, broke a hip and his people just let him suffer, then they abandoned him by letting animal control take him while saying he wasn't theirs.
He has been at a rescue for some time now but no one has offered him a forever home yet. We are going to bring him here as a foster though I'm guessing he may not be headed anywhere. https://i.imgur.com/RfBJInV.png |
I would be interested in fostering some doggos, but I just work too many damned hours. It would not be fair to the pups if they are in a kennel 12+ hours a day.

This is Louie... we got him from the same rescue but he came to us as a puppy and he was adopted to be a working dog on the farm. 7 months old heeler mix. He loves bringing pears and apples into the house for a mid-day snack. https://i.imgur.com/wnoTaao.jpg |
The ****ing timing of it all. Buddy had been at the rescue for months with no one wanting him. He is getting packed up into the van to get brought to the farm and someone comes along saying they have a forever home for him.
What the ****?!?! lol Glad he has a home. Instead... we are bringing home 2 year old Ellie as a foster. Bonus is that she will have the energy to keep up with the Heeler posted above. https://i.imgur.com/6LZtham.png |
We pick up a dog Monday for a "Slumber Paw-Tee". Should be fun.
