I adore Salvy, but it is a concern. He's gonna be 35 in eight weeks. And while his days of catching 140+ games are long gone, he's got a lot of mileage. But he should still have some left in the tank. I'm hopeful he's got one more season of All-Star type level play in him before hopefully slowly declining into a decent, mediocre player, padding his numbers, and when it's all said and done, getting some serious HOF consideration.

I can see him starting around 90 games at catcher this year and probably next before transitioning into a full time backup. Timing-wise, that should work out great, as by then someone of the Mitchell, Jensen or Ramirez will be ready to take the reigns as the primary backstop. Rotate Salvy in as DH and occasional 1B, and he should still get plenty of AB's for the next few years if he's still productive. Might not hurt if he were to take some reps at 3rd. With BWJ at short, Salvy's limited range at 3rd wouldn't make him a total liability, and he certainly has the arm for the position.

And there you go. All the silly talk of Jac making the roster out of ST can thankfully stop. To only be replaced by, when are they gonna call up Jac?!? When are they gonna call up Jac?!? When are they gonna call up Jac?!?

Spring training is a mirage, so Jac still has much to prove.

His performance in the minors will dictate when he is ready.

I have not heard many people say that they want him on opening day roster.

If by on FB too much, you mean on average 2 minutes/day, then sure, I'm on FB too much. I wouldn't say it's the majority, but there's plenty of yahoos clamoring to see Jac start the season with the parent club, even on sites like Royalsreview.

I still can't imagine we would lose more games with jac batting 7th or 8th and keeping renfroe, isbel, Garcia or Melendez on the bench. I get the concept of not hindering his development at the expense of throwing him to the wolves, however.

Yep, pretty much this. He'll need to start off at AA and keep doing his thing. Just glad to see he got this spring training opportunity to get his feet wet and get to know the other guys and the routine, etc.

Also think they want to send him for him to work on his defense as a 1B and OF. That is the right spots to have him work on it before he's ready to play in the MLB level defensively.
