Samuels and Slater only shoot 28% and 32% from 3 (respectively), so it might be a bit of “pick your poison”. We absolutely can’t have Gillespie or Daniels getting open 3’s.

Obviously, you don’t run that all game but I wouldn’t be shocked if Self mixes it in a bit.

That would be a good thing to try in this game. Haven't seen ku play that defense in quite some time. You know Self hates to play zones or junk defense like that. But when he does pull it out, it always seems to be effective.

I'd say Self struggled with those two Villanova teams because they each had 5-6 NBA players. Still would have likely beaten them in '16 if not for some horrible calls down the stretch.

This isn't a team to overlook, but it's a far cry from either of those.

That game in 2016 was a travesty with some of the horrible calls.

Graham fouled out and was on that night. Probably would’ve won if he didn’t.

I think Rice has a minor injury and is sitting out.

Oh man, that would be a nightmare. I was a big fan of Garret but, for as good as he was on defense, he was not much of a threat on offense.

Garret was really pretty good at passing the ball inside. But yeah, it was too bad his outside shooting was so weak. Definitely a fan favorite.

Here’s an idea of what Nova’s lineup will look like:

Starters (Points/Rebounds/Assists):

G-Collin Gillespie (15/4/3) 6’3” 195 lbs
G-Caleb Daniels (10/4/1) 6’4” 210 lbs
F-Brandon Slater (8/4/2) 6’7” 220 lbs
F-Jermaine Samuels (11/7/1) 6’7” 230 lbs
F-Eric Dixon (9/6/1) 6’8” 255 lbs

Their bench will basically be Jordan Longino, Chris Arcidiacano, and Bryan Antoine. None of them played any serious minutes this year. Nova mostly played 6 deep, so losing Justin Moore kills what little depth they had.

Here’s something interesting. Justin Moore played at least 27 minutes in every game this season. He played fewer than 30 minutes in just a few games. Most games, he played 33-38 minutes.

That means the lineup we’ll see, at most, could’ve only played 13 minutes together in any one game. Obviously, the number is much less than that because Arcidiacono, Longino, or Antoine could’ve spelled him for a bit.

Their projected starting lineup has likely played very very few meaningful minutes together this year. No doubt Jay Wright will have them prepared, but you have to think they’ll have at least a few issues adjusting in just a week.

Dick with tha 3

DJay23 03-29-2022 07:23 PM

"I'll be honest with you, after about the first four minutes of our first game, I tried to forget everything. Because we got punched in the mouth down there by 'Nova without question, so. But I do think there are a couple of things that I know personally that we've made notes on and stuff that I'll try to handle differently down there. And then the way we handled it in San Antonio such as your mind."

Self was reluctant to share what he would change.

“Those are my notes,” he said with a smile.

This is the most ive seen kids defend in a McD All-American game. Its still not good defense but alot better effort than normal.

Dick looks like Downs, hope he's much better.

Yeah not so good so far but AllStar games mean nothing.

Better to watch the Sunrise Christian games that are going to be on later this week and the weekend also on ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPNU.
