Offer him 10/200 (yes, it will take that much) with an out after six years or 6/130. |
That's kinda what I was thinking. You hope with a change in scenery and a change in approach he could be a corner ofer (already the best rfer in baseball defensively) and be a .300 20 ish homer guy with good obp and ops.

But, if he would sign, go for it. His defense isn't going away, stealing bases ain't going away. We need those skills badly. His WAR is already top level in the league. He can only get better at age 25. We have been paying $17 million year for Holliday. After the new CBA kicks in, that's at least = to $20 Million per year, probably closer to $22 million. Hollidays money was close to top $ when he signed. We have $20 million freed up and can increase our payroll at least another $10-20 million from last year. Goold thinks we can have a $150 million payroll. |
Dunno that they'll get a deal done before. He's gonna want to wait

I'm all for giving him Hollidays money and sign him for 10 years. He's 25 not 31 unlike most of the ball players that sign these $100+Million contracts. Defense isn't going away. Speed will be there for another 5 years at least. By all accounts a good guy in the locker room, active in charitable deeds in the community. Sounds like a guy we can root for. |

Also, he has five years of service time in. Although 27 was formerly the career year barometer, post PEDs evidence points to new info: 1) 25-6 is more likely to be the career year and 2) if a player breaks into the big leagues at a very early age, like Heyward did, he's generally as skilled as he's ever going to be. Mike Trout, for example, is not going to go from putting up 10 WAR seasons to 12 to 14 over the next five years. This Trout is as good as any Trout you'll see. Similarly, this is the best Heyward you'll see, and that's fine. At this point in his career, his hit tool is what it is. |
Red Sox going full Yankee again, tossing 40 million per year combined at a fatass 3B and shortstop who plays 95 games a year.

I wonder if we'll hate him like we hated Chris Duncan? |
