His teammates have always loved him. He works as hard or harder than anyone. He literally walked on at Texas Tech and earned his way every step. I guess I don't get the whole 'he's such a douchebag' argument. He just says, " **** you, hold my beer" and then goes and balls out. I don't get it. He's not like Cam Newton cocky. He's not a serial rapist like Big Ben. He's not 'entitled'; he's literally the embodiment of the underdog that succeeds in spite of nobody wanting him. Because he says what's on his mind, and then he goes out and does it? Is it just Mizzou fans that will forever hate OU or something? I just don't get it. Like I said, I wouldn't trade Mahomes for anything or anyone, but if we DIDN'T get Mahomes, I'd want Mayfield. And I bet if we were in that parallel universe, you'd all be fans too. *of course, I think the Youtube video where he was drunk and tried to run from the cops in college was hilarious. Like, come on, you never did that? That shit's funny. and I don't think that's a character flag, it's called being 20 years in college. |
Lol if you aren’t going to draft guys because they got suspended in college, you’re going overboard.

It’ll be interesting to see how Dorsey and the rookie HC handle all of those personalities. I’m sure everything will be great while they’re winning. They start losing though.....and it could get interesting.
Plus you’re eventually going to have to pay all of these guys. |

so to summarize and clear up-
A bunch of CP guys have all decided that Baker Mayfield is a douchebag but are unable to articulate why. 'ite. Fair enough. |

I don't think there's anything there that says he doesn't hold himself accountable. |
Why does Dorsey get all the credit and Sashi gets virtually none? Yea Dorsey did all the talent evaluation but without Sashi to tear it all down there is no Denzel Ward, Nick Chubb or 90 million in cap space in Cleveland. Dorsey walked into a perfect situation because of Sashi.
Sashi did some innovative things in that rebuild that I dont see too many other GMs doing. (Taking on salary for picks like in the NBA) You would think that tactic would be used more, especially with teams sitting on a ton of cap space. Granted Sashi never got to actually evaluate talent and use the assets he acquired so we will never know what he would have picked, he did make all the right moves to get Dorsey there. I don't think Dorsey gets Denzel Ward and Nick Chubb on his own asset maneuvering. |

But in those two years, the team made no real strides. so far, Dorsey has averaged plus 7 wins in both of his first seasons as GM. He has his faults no doubt. But quick turnarounds are kind of his thing at this point. |

I guess my bar for being a douche is different than others. does he point the finger at teammates when he screws up? No. does he own his mistakes? yes. Does he act entitled? No. He's earned every break. Is he a lockerroom problem? No, his teammates love him. Is it the underage drinking thing? Because that's dumb. Who didn't do that? And the face plant when he tried to run from the cops is hilarious. I just don't get it. I just see a kid who's used to being disregarded putting his middle finger in the air and saying, " Watch me mother****er". I like that attitude. Especially when time after time, he does succeed. |
I'm all for an ascendent Browns team.
I couldn't care less about 'stolen thunder' Make your own thunder or respect the thunder of others. It's sports. Competition is its lifeblood. Foregone conclusions are boring Untested mettle is worthless. Give me Ali/Foreman over Tyson smashing a bunch of tomato cans any day. Mahomes has established his potential. Now Reid and Veach have to establish they can build a championship team, and I want to see them face real stakes against real competition. Actual personalities in the opposition only enhances the saga. |
Yeah, man. Why do people think Mayfield is a douche?

Mayfield takes what the media to heart and always feels the need to respond to anything negative said about him.
He’s not just a douche. He doesn’t know how to handle critics. |

One person's douche is another person's fiery competitor I guess. It's not like he threw a flag into the stands and ran off the field or anything. Or jumped into the stands to start a fight with a fan. He acts like a linebacker. if that's a number 50 on his chest, do you give a shit? |

People think Mayfield is a douche because he has a personality and isnt a robot when he talks to the media.
Few years back the winless KU football team wouldnt shake his hand before the game so he disrespected them throughout the game. I dont know if you've ever been in a KU thread on here but the truly are a sensitive bunch. |

and if those two gifs make him a douche, then I guess I'm a douche, because I've done both of those, especially when I was 23. Got in some bar fights back in the day, too. And ran from the cops while being underage and drunk. Guess what: They caught me too. :D Although I didn't face plant over a curb. I expect every one of you would have to admit to that or worse if you were to be honest or you're all a lot more white-bread boring sons-of-bitches than I thought. Some people think he's a douche because he's unguarded and doesn't just spout the same old cliche stuff that he's 'supposed' to say. Might his mouth occasionally cause him trouble? Sure. I expect when it does, he'll learn to tone it down. He's 23 years old, you know. For now, he loves the criticism, it drives him. If you think Patrick didn't read every negative word about him before last year and stew on it, you're nuts. He's just grown up in a professional athlete environment and so is more composed. That doesn't make Baker a douche. I know I sure learned a lot after 23. I like that he's not a robot. I like that he's unguarded. I like that he says what's on his mind. His teammates love him, he doesn't act above anyone he gets in there and lets it all hang out. I like it. I get that some of you don't. I expect he's going to be Patrick's foil for much of his career, so it'll be a lot of fun, and we'll all hate '****ing Mayfield!' and he'll LOVE that. It's all good. |

I've seen it an I thought it was hilarious. You really think that makes him a douche? What kind of goody two shoes are you? |

And the guy can be a douche bag and still have fire. It’s not a one thing or the other. The guy can be a huge douche but he is also a guy who has lots of fire. I like the fire part but hate the douche part of his personality. Also if you are drinking underage and run from the cops, you are a douche who doesn’t know how to properly hide from the cops. |

I don't see a douche. Roethlisberger is a douche. Rosen's comments post draft were douchey. Phyllis Rivers is a crybaby douche. Grbac was a douche. guys who whine when they don't get what they think they're entitled to, guys who blame other people for their mistakes, guys who throw teammates under the bus, those are douchebags. Baker just doesn't care what you think and says what's he's thinking. I don't mind that. |

I also wasn't working towards NFL money. On the whole though, don't yell at me, I'm the guy willing to eat crow on him. |

Dorsey deserves a lot of credit for what is happening with the Browns at least some credit for Chiefs turn around as well. There's no way around it. |

I'm not yelling at anybody. I just think that Baker being 'controversial' has been a storyline in the media for years now; but there's never any controversy with his teammates or coaches. He's done some dumb kid stuff, but that's hardly unusual. And as for gifs of him cussing at people on the field or making gestures, well, he wears his heart on his sleeve and doesn't hide anything. That IS different, as usually by the time QB's make it to the NFL they've manicured that stuff out of these guys. I love having Patrick, and I don't think he's in any way insincere, but I DO think that he grew up learning how to handle himself as a professional athlete. He is literally what all these agents and coaches TRY to get everybody to be, how to act, etc. Baker's not that guy. He's totally different and uncensored. I don't think that makes him a 'douche'. I do think it makes him interesting, and always a fun interview. And as for on the field I think you're absolutely right- If before the season, someone told you Mahomes will throw 27 TD's ad 14 INT's, we'd all have happily taken that with joy in our hearts. It is, after all, the rookie record for TD's. BUT Mahomes is beyond what anyone could've hoped, and so here we are, happily. I just think it's interesting how polarizing Mayfield is; and how most people that decide they 'hate' him don't really know why. Fans of other colleges close to OU is some of it; so it's kind of like how we hated Elway in the 80's and 90's. And he's colorful, so double down. So the narrative runs. * I'll tell you one thing-I'm glad he's not a Raider. Then I would have to hate him. |
Lots of wonderful takes here LMAO
