It'll be something that I'll probably watch alone. Hubby doesn't like murder mystery shows where everything gets wrapped up nice and neat in one episode.

I watch a ton of those types of shows. Some of my favorite shows of all time are like Law and Order SVU.

I do absolutely love mysteries that span multiple episodes but I also like to intersperse shows that are cleaner.

The show I mentioned a couple of days ago - The Good Cop - is a show where each episode is a new mystery/crime and they wrap it up by the end of the episode.

I've watched all that they have on Hulu. It is enjoyable stuff, not terribly demanding. Likable characters. I check every once in awhile to see if they've added any seasons.

I have enjoyed Shrinking on Apple TV+. It has Harrison Ford.

All the characters are pretty likable, ala Ted Lasso.

I just finished binging Mr. Inbetween on Hulu, not sure if this show was discussed in the thread, I did a search and didn’t find any previous recommendations. I didn’t think I was going to like this series but it has ended up as one of my all time favorites.

Any opinions on Only Murders in the Building?

Did you watch Vikings first? Man I love that show. Haven’t gotten around to Valhalla yet, but have heard it’s not nearly as good as Vikings.

Buehler445 03-06-2023 09:35 AM

Finally watched the second season of White Lotus. It was as good as the first IMO. Not new and fresh like the original one, but that's because the original exists. There is some world class cinematography in that bitch. My god it's good. And the storytelling is really really superb. It's really a pretty simple story, but I was all in on all the characters.

For a bit I was concerned it would be one of those shows that was overwhelmed by perpetual unhappiness, but they pulled out some interesting conclusions out of the thing.

I don't know WTF voodoo magic Mike White is on, but he is mother****ing killing it.

If you have Prime I feel like Three Pines is a bit of a hybrid that fits. Same town, Twin Peaks/Northern Exposure like quirkiness/humor, different crimes that get worked within the same season but each over multiple episodes.

I found it enjoyable as a middle ground between a super serious murder mystery and a smart, yet lighter, small town likeable detective show ala some of the British stuff.

Ted Lasso next week. Yellow Jackets the week after.

These will help ease the blow of the end of The Last of Us.

Snowflake going strong in its last season as well.

I don't think I've watched a single show which has been canceled after the first season.

You need to be more disciminating.

I thought Three Pines was interesting enough for more seasons, cancelled. People seemed to like 1899, I never watched it, but cancelled.
It's becoming a self fulfilling prophecy, no one wants to watch season one of a show because it probably would get cancelled, so wait until there are multiple seasons first, but then since no one watched season one the show doesn't get more seasons.

I think the problem that he is trying to articulate is that they're throwing so many new shows out there and many of them are crap.

So rather than watch season 1 and get hooked, it's best just to skip anything new until you know there will be more than 1 season.

As a general rule, I won't even start a series that has only 1 season because more than likely, it's going to get canceled. This really isn't a problem with series' I'm already watching.

Miles 03-14-2023 05:29 PM

Yep. Unless the show is an immediate huge hit it’s not really safe to watch anything until a renewal has been announced. Although these days some renewed shows have been canceled.

This would be less of a problem if it wasn’t so common to end a season on a cliffhanger.

Exactly. I've run into both situations in the past. It's bad when the season builds up to a big cliff hanger and then poof, canceled. But the worst is when they announce another season and then it never happens. The one show I can think of was at the end of season 4 with a cliffhanger, they announced season 5 and then canceled it right before release.

I wished it had another season. If you remember in season 3 someone calls him The Magician. I had no idea why he was called that. I just learned that before he did this series, Mr. Inbetween, he had made a mockumentaey called “The Magician”, based on the same character, looks to be at least 10 years earlier. I haven’t watched it yet but I was surprised to find the full version on YouTube. Here’s the link in case anyone has interests.

I watched the first episode of Lucky Hank with Bob Odenkirk. It’s sort of a comedy drama and I enjoyed it.

I had no idea 1899 got cancelled. I enjoyed that show.

Mind Hunter is a show that comes to mind for a show getting cancelled unexpectedly for me. Though it lasted two seasons not one it’s another example of getting excited about a show only to have it end.

I posted about Perry Mason when Season 1 went on.

I enjoyed it a LOT. I really did. It took some heat (maybe rightfully so, IDK) that it wasn't very true to the original story. I'm not much of a Mason fan otherwise, so it didn't really bother me, but I was really into the story.

Agreed. I think he is extraordinarily undervalued as an actor. He can put so much nuance into his performance. It's really a shame he doesn't get more work.

Sidenote: He was on The Watch Podcast, and he is insanely Brittish. Holy shit. That makes his performances all the better.

Perry Mason is my dad’s favorite show. MFer was always on when I was a kid.

He doesn’t have HBO so hadn’t seen their version but is out here visiting so we’re literally watching it right now.

I figured he’d hate it because a) he’s old and a curmudgeon and b) a Perry Mason purist.

He’s loving it. He won’t say he’s loving it, just like the food I cook for him, but I can tell.

It’s my 2nd time through season one and I’m appreciating it even more.

After 4 1/2 inches of rain in 15 hours Thursday night, I spent 5 hours this morning raking, shoveling and relocating the gravel in my 300ft driveway and still got through episode 9 this afternoon. :D

I have never seen a downpour like that, it was overshooting the gutters and we live on the side of a hill. :bolt:

We did the same about a month ago (watched the whole series actually). It's better than I remembered it.

Yeah, it had been so long since I watched the series it took most of season 3 for me to put things back into perspective.

Great series!

I watched the Consultant on Amazon.

I think I'm not smart enough to catch what it was getting at. Some of it was pretty decent. Some of it was cringe. At the very least it kept me engaged.

Overall, it was pretty underwhelming, but there are some good performances.

My Mrs. just finished that and is still shaking her head, saying it makes very little sense and was very strange. :thumb:

I’m super jealous. It is still ridiculously dry here.

Night Agent on netflix is a great adventure/mystery stream. I would highly recommend it.

I made it about 3 and half episodes and can't go on. There is a soap-opera quality to the dialogue that bugs me.

As an aside: Streaming services are creating multi-episode shows that really should be made-for-tv movies of an hour or two. A lot of nothing happens in episodes, and more nothing happens in the next episode. The story progresses at a snails pace.

I can see that. Everyone process different

I know friend, keep the Oberlin weather report on a tab and talk to our guy regular. He did send me a pix of some wet snow a couple days ago, first in some time. I think he said they had had 3 hundreths for the month before that. Hang in there, it will turn around

We have had these torential rains every spring, the lake is a mess.

I just finished Succession season 4 episode 1 and it was great IMO. Little confusing to start but it comes together. :thumb:

Would highly recommend Superstore on NBC or Hulu/Netflix. Pretty funny and lighthearted show. Easy watch. Kind of like if The Office was in a dept store.

Yeah. I loved it. It definitely hit the ground running and was throwing 100MPH the whole time.

Shits popping.

Anyone watch the first season of The Bear on Hulu? Really really enjoyed it and the second season is supposed to be out in June or July. This video is a bit more than a trailer for the show. Might have a few spoilers in it. I didn't think the trailer video did it justice. Watch to about 1:40 gives you a good idea of the show... or longer if you want to know more.

The Bear was absolutely amazing. That one I was all the way in on and hung with me for awhile.

Strongly recommend.

We loved it. Can't wait for a new season.
