MMA fighters are going to just keep getting better, Jones is a great example. I know he looks unbeatable right now but expect the bar continue to be raised. What an exciting sport.

Brock 09-24-2011 11:01 PM

So what's next for Jones, a shitty fight with Evans?

Two things: can someone tell me why Silva vs Jones isn't already set for next spring, and secondly, why the hell isn't Jon Jones' nickname 'Manhunter'?

Yeah, I didn't want to fork it out for that weak card, but I'm hooked and refuse to miss a PPV. At least I get rewarded tonight with Dos Santos/Velasquez for free on fox.

The fight is next month, Nov 11th I believe.

10mins too late, story 'o my life...

TheGuardian 10-30-2011 10:26 AM

Penn has been done for a while. I said a long time ago that Penn was never as talented as people thought he was. As soon as skilled guys started coming up around him, he fell to the wayside. Frankie Edgard would beat him 100 out of 100 times right now. So would Gray and a whole bunch of other guys. You can't just rely on being more talented than everyone else in a weak division for long.

I wouldn't have paid for that card last night. Suckage. GSP is still going to walk through Diaz if/when that fight happens.

Penn might have the worst cardio in the UFC. He won round 1 against Fitch and Diaz, but after that he gasses when guys that are known for cardio like the 2 I mentioned start to impose their will on him.

I still say Diaz probably isn't even a top 5 welterweight in the UFC and GSP would have him on his back for most of that fight.

Caught it, not much to say either way. The first time I watched Penn fight was probably about a year ago (just never got around to watching him or missed his fights for whatever reason) when he fought Frankie Edgar in Abu Dhabi and he looked like he was there to collect a paycheck as opposed to win a fight. I was never impressed with that guy and maybe I just caught him too late in his career but from my perspective I never understood the hype.

Hope he does retire to be honest.

GSP, Fitch, or Kos all dominate Nick Diaz any day of the week.

I'm assuming this is how it is spelled in Brazil "Portuguese".

Wow, Leben got completely destroyed. Munoz was just T'ing off. I'll give Leben credit for his chin, but dude needs to learn to defend.

wow. I can't believe its already over.

Crazy thing about the UFC though, even the best fighters can get caught by an unexpected punch and go down, just like that. In boxing, you are done if you lose more than 2 or 3 fights, but in the UFC, you routinely see good fighters lose.

Picture a Mike Tyson fight when he was in his prime. No ground game at all just a slug fest and one guy got clocked then tweetee birds.

Disappointing actually.

alnorth 11-12-2011 08:59 PM

I watched the 5 or 6 undercard fights right before this one for free on the internet. The lightweight undercard right before this quick underwhelming fight on fox was awesome, almost ended several times in each round, went the distance.

Was great to see Cigano win the title, he has worked so hard! The Bendo-Guida fight was actually great as well, glad the UFC aired it everywhere else except in the US on Fox live. Was nice seeing how educated the Fox announcer was before the fights, much better than Gus Johnson on strikeforce(filho da puta). Anyways, happy to see Junior win. Cain didn't look horrible, just tried to slip and counter with his lead left hook (like he did against Big Nog) and got crushed by Jr.'s overhand right. I still think that this fight will be a good rematch down the road, but nothing will ever have as much hype, electricity, e excitement that Fedor v. Mirko did.

Carwin is going to be 37 years old by the time he gets his rematch, I'm not sure he is the same guy and I'm really not sure his conditioning will be improved by then.

Almost nailed it!

I initially thought Cain would win this one until both men got to the ring. It was obvious that one had the heart of the champion and the other was carrying the pressure of a country. Cain had a genuine look of concern on his face during the fight announcement.

The only thing missing from the Fox broadcast was the robot shadow boxing in the corner of the screen.

BigCatDaddy 11-13-2011 10:12 AM

I personally think JDS might run a nice streak of wins defending the title. The new "blue print" for MMA seems that you need to be a superior striker and superior defender. If you look at most of the champs these days that is what they typically are. Of course they are more then just that, but their bread and butter seems to be to keep the fight on their feet and dominate in that fashion. GSP maybe the exception the rule, but he can strike with the best of them and is one of the best defenders at MMA.

TrickyNicky 11-13-2011 10:32 AM

Just watched Bendo vs Guida on youtube. Damn, what a fight. The whole thing was pretty intense throughout but the last minute was something else. Would have loved to see it on Fox in HD.

I have been saying this forever.

Great ground defense with the ability to keep it standing, is what MMA has become. This is where fights are won now. Stuff the guys shot, then force him to stand.

No way 'Reem can avoid Brock's takedowns. Brock will take him down again and again and again. Lay and pray with a few smacks on the roid-beakhere and there to score. Bank on it. I'm no fan of Lesnar's, just a realist.

Too bad Fox didn't air that fight instead. They would have gained a lot more MMA fans then they did.

This is the first UFC card in a long time the exceeded expectations in my opinion. You got to love when Faber put on a show and Silva/Lee was pretty damn good too.

Any thoughts on how the hell guys like Hendo, Couture and Hopkins(boxing) kick ass past the age of 40 while most other guys fall off a cliff around 35?

Was the score 48-47 from all three judges?

There had to be some 10-8 rounds, right?

Apparently Henderson thought he won the first round 10-8 though.

Doesn't really matter.
