Well, as suspected, this fight should have taken place at least 5 years ago.

It's a shame that such a hyped event lacked much punch in the end. Even though, anyone familiar with Mayweather knows that he can be amazing from a technical standpoint, and probably the most efficient tactician in the sport ever.

The flipside is his fights can be boring to the casual fan of boxing and vapid of excitement and fireworks.

As a consolation prize I've posted the Gatti v Ward trilogy- which is nothing short of AMAZING!

Seriously, if you've never seen their 3 fights before, watch them right now. I can promise you won't be disappointed.

I grew up watching boxing with my dad, and we used to watch classic fights he saw growing up as well as new matches over the years.

Every couple of years when I am visiting my parents, he and I will revisit Gatti Ward's 3 flights because they are breathtaking and jaw dropping at the same time.

Enjoy!

Ironically, the lower weight classes often are a lot more entertaining. The heavyweight class in title equivalent matches is where you will see a lot more plodding along and "hugging".

With the nutrition, and training these days guys have absurdly crushing punching power. So, they have to be on guard to a much greater degree because it doesn't need to be a "clean" shot for a number of these guys to drop their guy. Lower weight class guys will still "trade" shots and is what people typically find exciting.

On a sidenote. My favorite is getting to see a fighter "tap the button". The much less seen body knockout.

None I specifically recall, I just know sometimes I'll read after the fact that so-and-so won on PPV and it grossed $$$$.

Back in the old days (for me)...I remember big championship fights on HBO. That's not free, but still more accessible to the masses than paying out up to $100 for what could be a 10-minute event.

If you wanna go back the big fights during boxing's golden days we're on broadcast television - ABC, NBC, CBS.

I might put a 0-0 soccer game above the fight last night.

Gotta love the bar room brawling excuse though. They score fight on rounds not "who looks worse after a fight". I see that dumb shit a lot in MMA.

Yeah, after they postponed this pile of shit until all either of them could do was ballroom dancing the world's most expensive senior center.

For once, deadspin actually nailed it

He looks like he could unload if he ever felt like it, and so he gets an awful lot of credit for all the things he could do but is too shrewd to risk doing. The only time he ever goes on the offensive is when he’s fighting a woman.

Thats a legit criticism about waiting but defense is a part of the sport like in most others. He landed about twice as many shots as Manny I believe. I dont care for the guy and his style doesnt make for exciting fights but he is and has been the best in the world. There is a ton of butt hurt when a guy like him wuns but Im not sure "Deadspin" is who I would turn to for boxing expertise.

The fight made for a good nap. Glad I didn't put the money up for it.

Superb technical fighters rarely make for exciting fights.
