that just made me shutter in horror... there's no way he could play that position

who is the last college coach to successfully transition into the NFL?

they don't have the respect of the players... and without that there's nothing. the track record over the last decade has shown this.

and give me a break with kirk ****ing ferentz... this year iowa was OK, but they've been underachieving for a while now... and this is pioli's "guy"?

well i'm sorry, but that's a dealbreaker

They are clearly saying that nothing between Pioli and Hunt has happened to this point. Granted, though, it's a Cleveland paper, and why would they be up-to-date on dealings between New England and Kansas City?

But if Nick whiffs on this one, especially after what he's been spreading the last few hours... ouch.

what has he been spreading?

I'm ready to like Pioli, but if he screws up the coaching decision I'll consider both of them bad hires. I don't know anything about this Ferentz guy, but hiring from the college ranks doesn't exactly thrill me.

Ferentz spent 6 years as the OL coach for Cleveland/Balt. So he has NFL experience.

Ferentz was an offensive line coach at Iowa under Hayden Fry in the 80's. He then worked under Belichick with the Browns, and moved with the team to Baltimore... he spent 6 years in the NFL as an offensive line and assistant HC before taking the Iowa job.

I bet Ferentz knows "flustrated" isn't a word.

butch davis had prior nfl experience before his first gig as an nfl head coach too... and he was a defensive coordinator for the cowboys in their hay day...

i just feel like they don't have full command of a lockerroom when they first get the job which puts them behind the eight ball.. it's just a bad idea imho

A few hours ago, this fraud Athan was whipping his duped subscribers into a frenzy by making it seem like Scott Pioli, Bill Cowher, and Mike Shanahan were all fighting it out to come to KC. Someone should call the better business bureau.

That's why it's important on who he chooses as his staff. IMO, you can't let a HC from college come in and bring in all or most of his staff from college.

This year we had Gailey bring in his OL and RB coach from Gtech and Eric Price from UTEP as WR coach. It wasn't a problem from a credibility standpoint because most the players were young and Gailey has the credibility.

Plus guys like Spurrier, Petrino, and Saban all have pretty arrogant ego's. They all rubbed pro players the wrong way.

Davis had Jimmy Johnson in his ear telling him he needed control of Personell as well. Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark had as much of a hand in that mess as Davis did.

I'm not sure that Pioli would pinpoint on Ferentz but the speculation is and has always been that IF he returned to the NFL it would come from one of the people from CLE/BALT that he worked with. From that list Pioli is close friends with him and guys like Phil Savage, Eric Mangini, Eric DeCosta, and Jim Schwartz were all around starting out as coaches/scouts.

All i want is people that are put in the HC GM and down the line, in those positions is that they are all on the same page and all know their role. The scouts spend 3 years on avg scouting potential picks. Coaches come in after the season and get their say but I think you need a sound personell dept to really get the job done like the steelers have.

It doesn't help with the egos of CP and Herm, so that in itself will help matters.
