Better backup catcher and backup 1B. But in reality not much more there to upgrade next year.

Pitching we are set. Give rosenthal a chance to start. He's toast as a reliver anyway. He flames out in spring training, no harm no foul.

Let neshek walk and go get a legit set up man

I'd look at moving Rosenthal for something. Use that money ton fix the pen

I heard Strauss on the radio this week saying that the Cardinals can afford a $150 million payroll and still make $20-$30 million profit next year.

But, who do we buy? We have no positions open.

Even if Rosenthal isn't a closer, he still has value as a power arm out of the pen. Trading him doesn't accomplish anything unless he's packaged for a bigger piece.

Frankly, I think he's better as aneeded 8th inning guy mentality wise

Spending money to spend money is inviting disaster.

If you were going to increase payroll, the thing to do would be to buy out the arb years of Wong and Adams this year, and if his production looks legit, Oscar and Wacha in 2016.

The only other way to spend money intelligently would be to work a trade that brought in Stanton while also extending him for five years.

Oh, and we have another six-ish coming off with Motte leaving.

O.city 10-16-2014 10:59 PM

Andrew miller would be a pen option

I might buy low on Geovany Soto and see if he could play some first and catch

I would never recommend signing BP FA's. They are relievers b/c they aren't good enough to start.

The Dodgers just pissed away $30 million on League, Wilson, and some other ****ing scrub whose name escapes me in one year alone.

Oh I agree. We can't compete with the $2-$8 billion cable TV contracts. We have to buy a couple of post arbitration years of our core players. Garcia and Craig contracts didn't work out but that Carpenter deal looks pretty sweet now.

All I hear is how hard Wong works to make himself better. Give him some money. Big dudes who hit home runs don't grow on trees. Give Adams some money too.

Lynn is going to want a ton of money. Thats where you throw some of that extra money.

Wacha has to wait until the shoulder is stabilized, if it ever does. I wouldn't give Miller one either.

New core guys to build around:
Carpenter
Wong
Adams
Taveras
Lynn

Shelby is gonna be great if he can continue to develop his secondary stuff.

Would you look to move anyone for a legit lefty?

O.city 10-16-2014 11:05 PM

Aramis is a fa. He seems to always kill us, bring him aboard
