But Pat Kaufman, the chief financial officer for KU athletics, said much of that surplus is due to future pledges and donations that had to be counted this year because of accounting rules. In fact, Kaufman said, a change in the department’s fundraising cycle caused nearly a year and a half’s worth of contributions to be counted in 2013. Kansas counted nearly $33 million in contributions in 2013, up from $22.4 million the year before.

“It’s kind of an anomaly this year,” Kaufman said, “because we adjusted our cycle.”

KU officials say the department’s operating expenses, which increased from nearly $79 million to $79.7 million over the last year, are a better reflection of the amount of cash the department brings in each year.

“We really don’t have a significant cash surplus,” Kaufman said, before adding: “We pretty much know what our revenue numbers are going to be, and we budget to live within our means."

He should have known it was too good to be true. After all, ku wide receivers have only scored three times in like five years.

It's a long winded fluff piece highlighting the future contributions Kansas has received. Congrats, I guess.

I posted the last 7 years of financial data for area schools, KU > MU by $100M. Which is really not possible given MU is a football school and football makes way more money.

Without those donations counted 18 months forward, it reads as though KU would have been in the red. Again.

It even said as much in the portion of the article you quoted earlier.

KU is living on credit cards.

So for the past 7 years, it's: KU 525.9, MU 426.3, and KSU 403.9. One would think football would generate more money but not in this case locally.

And you guys still can't get out of the red. Time for a new accounting firm to do your books.

The data says KU made a profit of 33.9 while MU lost -4.6m. Bowser, you do some fine work around here.
