Yeah, but the pieces have to fall in place.

We have seen the best versions of Adam Wainwright and Yadi Molina. Peralta is not going to put up 5.6 WAR next year, and Holliday has begun his decline curve.

On top of that, Jon Jay just had a career year.

Let us not forget that John Mabry is still the hitting coach and Matheny the manager. Even if Adams were to morph into a 35 HR behemoth and Oscar look like Vlad Guerrero, Matheny proved this week that he can **** up any situation.

He is the Sword of Damocles that hangs over every season.

Wacha gonna have to stay healthy. Shelby continues to develop. Really need a lefty in the rotation.

And a 3rd base/1st base bench power bat to give Adams a day off

Between grichuk and piscotty you hope holidays replacement is there. You won't get his production from them though

Holliday is here for 2 more years. No matter how fast he declines, Matheny will run him out there.

O.city 10-16-2014 10:22 PM

Oscar is gonna be a star though. Legit middlemail of the order bat.

I'd be open to moving Jay, although I'm not sure he hasn't really come into his own

BigRedChief 10-16-2014 10:22 PM

Hamas, I think I read that we already got our money back on the Holliday contract. Performance for money received stat. You know about that stat?

Taveras is perfectly capable of replacing Holliday's production.

OT can hit .300/20/100 as a #3 hitter. He's not there yet but hitting .500 as a pinch hitter in the post season says he won't wilt under the bright lights. Unless Matheny ****s him up.

Changes every year. Used to be around $5 mill per WAR, now it's closer to $7. At five mil per, we'd need 24 WAR from him. He's given us just a shade under 25.

It's been a good deal.

O.city 10-16-2014 10:27 PM

I'd see if I could make a deal for Stanton wit out moving oscar.

Doubtful

Miles 10-16-2014 10:28 PM

I am still very optimistic about next year and probably much more than I was going into this season. I worry about any news we may hear about Wainwright's elbow before next season though.

Same article said that out of those $100 million baseball contracts only 1 in 25 or some odds like that ever get their moneys worth. That true too? If so.........

Matheny's dumbassery managing aside, Do the Cardinals worry about getting more out of Holliday or do they back off and say we got out money back. And slowly phase him out? Drop him in the order?

Miles 10-16-2014 10:31 PM

I'm also hopeful that playoff Wong that seemed to realize his potential is the Wong we way get going forward.

O.city 10-16-2014 10:32 PM

Young guys need confidence. Hopefully Adams Wong and Oscar got a bunch of it

 Not in the real world.

The only position we have open IMHO is CF. Who needs to be traded? Holliday but he ain't going anywhere. You don't trade wong or Adams now. Peralta but he probably got a no trade clause.

Trade Jay and a Taveras or Martinez for a power hitting CF, if those still exist.
